Sweet, WCS NA is now GSL. Blizzard has effectively killed the NA scene in my opinion by allowing this many Koreans to play in NA.

Hey now, there wasn't much of a scene to ruin. While this is still nowhere near what it should have been (i.e a proper NA GSL), it's still much better than the nothing they had before.

The tournament fucked over most by this is the GSL and the Korean scene which just lost a bunch of great players.

I am no longer excited for WCS. Oh I will watch, I will enjoy but seriously this just shows how strong a hold Korea appears to have over Blizzard. Stronger competition? Yup. Give them more money to reflect that.

I dont see why we cant grow the local scenes. In two years no one from NA will be competing at a decent level and very few from EU. What motivation does some 15 year old kid have when all he has is NA ladder and no prospects of anywhere to go?

I don't understand all the people who say they only want to see Koreans play because they are better. I wonder if these people don't support any local sports teams. Do they only watch Champions league? To me sports is all about supporting your local team/players and the stories and rivalries between the players.

In the Netherlands we have our football (soccer) league team FC Utrecht. It doesn't really matter to them how the season goes as long as they beat Ajax.

That's what we call "minority".

This whole WCS thing is only a good thing, it'll make everything and every player step up their level, and no content themselves with being the best player of ATLANTA's city or anything.

Quit crying.

I like it this way to be honest, why want the worse players to win? just because they are not koreans? because they are your favorite players? Thats a little bit selfish.

I am not even counting the "effort factor": a player like Demuslim is an 1 build order type of player that spends half his time playing 2x2, 3x3 and playing for fun while on the other side of the planet, low-tier koreans are joining up together and training 24/day 7/week. But "we", ie AM and EU, want the worse player to win because he´s not KR.

imagine youself being a mid-tier korean right now

Well EG-TL are screwed because from the looks of it:
http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/news/wcs-america-season-1/
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2012-2013_Proleague/Round_5

They have to play proleague and Ro16 at the same time...

Now that kespa, mlg and blizz work all together, there won't be much of problem I think. They'll reschedule.

If they reschedule for EG-TL, they might have to start recheduling for MVP, LG-IM and Axiom-Acer players ( possible GSTL conflict ). The whole WCS was designed to eliminate the need of such rescheduling - if some players choosed a region where they cant be due to commitment in other region - then its their fault.

It's not your fault when your forced to choose a region without knowing any details about when it's played nor how the prize money will be distributed.

It's probably a moot point. Recently when blizzard asks, everyone plays ball and rescheduling will probably happen. No reason to think that will change.

Btw blizzard is trying to change the scene not because they want AM,EU to win tournaments. They just want to make more money as well (by keeping a fake scene full of bad foreigner players), but this time, at the cost of the koreans money.

how strong a hold they have over the competition. if they had a strong hold over blizzard, then all the money would just be funneled into korea and they would not have to make the trips to euro/NA to come take our money.

It seems to me that the overwhelming majority of players are just playing in the regions where there sponsors/team is based.

Which makes sense really.

This is probably the best we could have hoped for given the rules, it's at least better than the entire Kespa B Team and all ESF players not in Code S/A playing in NA/EU.

So you have no idea what you are talking about, right? because Demuslim does not spend half his time player 2x2 and 3x3. He doesn't do one build order and you are just pulling shit out of your ass?

Even if they can't/won't reschedule for whatever reason, you are assuming all of their players will make it that far when that is probably not the case. They should still have enough players to play their match with the ones playing ro16 still able to do so, coming back after for PL.

The fact that there was going to be a LAN part in WCS-NA was known long time ago, but since the final dates were not known blizzard must find a way to compensate that particular screwup somehow. Rescheduling probably is not going to happen, but for certain they should be able to re-decide their region, and all codeA forfeits should be undone.

Honestly, who from NA could even compete? This isn't a great loss. Sorry if that seems blunt or harsh but it's the truth. This will put additional uber-talent into the final bracket which I am absolutely 100% fine with. I have no desire to see regional players just because I'm from the US. I want to see the finest players in the world.

Can't wait to watch. <3

I think the people who only care about quality of games and competition based on merit, not race/drama/nationality see straight in this imaginary shit storm. I'm very certain that if Blizzard's plan unfolds as intended the SC2 e-sport landscape will look vastly different in 5 or more years, and it will be a landscape that is not solely dominated by Koreans but rather by a very varied international pool. But so many over reacting readers would rather have their exclusive regional champions and get ROFLSTOMPED by KR every Global Finals and never, ever have a non-Korean crowned World Champion. It seems what people want is to go back to BW amateur level foreign tournaments with the exception that those nubcake tournaments actually give out substantial prize money. If the foreign scene dies this year but can be revived in a few years made possible by offline regional tournaments then I'm fine with that.

After the great idea of the global WCS event they end up weakening the best league in the world. No more EG or liquid to play in code A/S or mvp/nestea along with others, Sad day

Wow. Good job, Blizzard. Even last season's code S semifinalist is switching to NA. Way to go.

Congrats to blizzard on completely mismanaging this tournament. The original idea is to have local tournaments and leagues for each location. While the message never seemed to change, they are now changing it to just 3 code S around the world. The better players will be winning more money, but that seems to be the complete opposite of what the intention for the WCS as initially.

Meh, if the Koreans feel they can't compete in Korea anymore, it only means that the best of the best in Korea will be competing.

I do feel that it's silly to see so many Koreans competing in a North American regional tournament, however.
I promise not to make a tasteless joke.

They didn't "lose" them. The players choose to go outside of Korea in the hope of making money. How does that fuck over the Korean scene? If anything, it leaves room for new players to make a name for themselves. As far as I can tell, this means more money from outside Korea to Korean players.

There will probably need to be a culling of heads in the Korean SC2 scene, but that is because there are too many SC2 progamers and because SC2 is not very popular in SK. The home market is not able to support them. NOT because of Blizzard.
