Hi,
I've searched around for this problem about six different ways on Google and TL and can't find any help or advice. I may not be using the right search terms for the problem. Maybe someone else has had this problem and can please help me out.
The problem happens when playing in SC2. I'll be moving some troops with my mouse (select them, getting ready to click where I want them), and THEN an event will get reported somewhere else on the game map, and my screen focus will jump to where the report originated. It's happening is kind of random. I can't figure out what's causing it. I don't think I'm accidentally hitting my hotkeys for the base camera and the like. I have "Jump to Last Alert" mapped to the "I" key. That's pretty far from the left hand keys on the keyboard. I use the QWERT based hotkeys.
I think usually I see this jumping-to-the-event happen when I'm about to click a destination for a group and the report for an event sends my screen and mouse pointer there. At that instant my clicking finger is still in motion and I inadvertently click on the newly reported location, sending my units to BFE.
I've looked around in the user interface, the gameplay options, in SC2, and I can't find anything that seems to help with the problem I'm having. The closest thing for fixing the problem seems to be, in Options, the Mouse Scroll, Show Alerts, or maybe Drag Scroll in the Global Hotkeys menu.
I'm stumped and would appreciate advice from anyone who understands what's happening. Nothing worse than having one's control of one's units yanked in the heat of battle.
Thanks!

This has been happening to me periodically since the game came out. I have no idea what the problem is either. The spacebar is what focuses your screen on alerts, but I have had mine unbound, so I don't think that's what it is.

I believe there are settings that make it so if you click the alert text on the side of the screen that it will take your camera there. Is this possibly what is happening to you?

Yeah I would sometimes misclick the event on the left and it would send me over to it. I cannot remember if there is a way to make it unclickable (like the hotkey buttons) or not. You may have to turn it off, but most people end up ignoring it anyway.
I highly suggest trying to see if it's the alerts. Anyway, best of luck!

Thanks for the replies. I'm not alone with this crazy problem!
My spacebar isn't bound to event alerts either. My spacebar is bound to cycling through production facilities or tech buildings hotkeyed to the same key. It's quicker for me to thumb the spacebar to get to the next facility/building than to hit the tab key, although I'm now trained to hit either, going to Previous Subgroup or Next Subgroup.
I hadn't thought about the little alert boxe that comes up on the left side of the screen. I can't remember clicking on them in a game, but maybe that's what's making this so hard to pin down. They seem so far out of the way.
I do have the Menu Bar "hidden" because I was running into the similar problem of accidentally accessing it during game play. I've even seen GMs accidentally hit the Menu Bar during play on their streams.
I'll have to check if there is a way for some hotkey to be tied up with that event box.

The alerts that pop up on the left side of the screen will make your camera jump to that reported spot if you click on the icon. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an option to just make those unclickable. So the best thing you can do is uncheck "Show Alerts" in the gameplay options.

Never ever happened to me in the way you described it. But if you have the alerts enabled (displayed in the mid/up left side of the screen) and you click on an alert, you'll get to that event's location. So turning it off is your only option (except for not clicking on it), again never happened to me unintentionally.
This also brings up the idea for having unclickable alerts as an option in HotS. Ofc Blizz will never think of this after all the complaints people were having before too.

I would guess this is the reason too. I've clicked it too on rare occasions. A bit annoying, but not a big problem. Would be cool to see blizzard implement a "unclickable" feature like they do with the menu for those alerts.

Disable the following option:
Options > Gameplay > Show Alerts
Alerts will tell you when a unit/upgrade/building etc is complete.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to make these Alerts unclickable like there are for the hotkey binds etc.

Yep, gotta turn those alerts off, who reads them anyways?

This has been happening to me more recently in hots, really wish there was an option for unclickable alerts. I like the visual alert for when a building/unit/upgrade is finished without looking at the building

And I need them for nukes alert or nydus. Unfortunately that doesn't happen as often as I unintentionally click on the alert icons...
Would really help me to have them unclickable aswell...

They are really nice in muta vs muta where you want to engage literally the second your upgrade finishes. Otherwise I don't use them much, but I've never accidentally clicked them that I can remember.

Is your I key messed up? I know my keyboard is really old so it has some problems like that. :/
