Today Jonthan 'DarKFoRcE' Belke decided to retire from proffessional SC2 He wrote a message on his facebook why he decided to retire and what he will do next:
Hello everyone!
Initially i wanted to make a video, but for some reason i feel comfortable with just writing a post.
Long story short, im going to retire from professional Starcraft 2 - something i probably should have done like 2-3 months ago. Alternate offered to renew my contract (and i even would have gotten the same salary as last year - which is very nice of them), but i declined. While i probably could stick around and play a bit of EPS and get some easy money, it honestly would have felt like im just ripping them off, which Alternate doesnt really deserve, as they are one of the few reliable organisations in eSport. They might be quite slow at times, but in the end I always got what i was promised (and, sadly, thats rare in eSport).
If you dont really care much, you can stop reading here :D
Why did I decide to retire? There is two big factors. First of all, after EPS Summer last year and WCS Europe Finals my confidence in my play was pretty rock bottom and i never really managed to change that all too much, and confidence is super important to winning. Second, SC2 simply was not as much fun anymore which also decreased my motivation to practise. I tried to force myself to keep going many times, hoping once i perform better I will also have more fun again (winning alone is quite fun for me) but it just didnt come back.
Whats next? I dont know exactly myself. I will certainly not just disappear though.
Ill just make some Cliffnotes because im bad at writing: -I will play SC2 now and then and do some coaching if there is still people interested. -I will still follow the SC2 scene (as in watch tournaments, read forums etc.) and continue to make videos about tournaments, analyzing betting lines for matches etc. -Mainly, i will be playing poker again, and so far it doesnt seem that dry and its going quite good (and its fun again after such a long break). -Also I will play more League of Legends, but obviously its hard to break into the Proscene there, so im not going to put that much hope into getting anywhere there, but you never know what will happen :D
Greetings, DarKFoRcE
Sad to see him go, I will miss his strange sense of humor and everythinng, but GL with poker
Just finished readin the blog he wrote. Really nice guy, always enjoyed watching his tourney runs. Will never forget his game against JRecco on Entombed for the TSL4 quali's. Best ZvZ I've ever seen.
Best of luck Darkforce, I always enjoyed what you did in the scene (Szenecast, occasional appearance on SotG) and hope you continue to stay in the scene, you'd be sorely missed.
Good luck Darkforce, I will always watch your Vlogs and look forward to your next tournament talks . Hope you have fun and success in poker (and maybe LoL?).
On February 10 2013 03:19 canikizu wrote: Should I blame poker or League of Legend?
Sounds like you should blame Blizzard for not making the game fun enough, although it would seem DarkForce had some emotional stuff that was holding him back.
Thanks for all the fun you brought to us, DarKFoRcE, you will be missed. I wish you the best of luck for your future endeavours, you are an awesome person!
Sad, he was pretty much the only Zerg player that I always rooted for. I hope HotS hooks him again at some point and we will see him again in the future, he seemed like one of the few very honest and open guys in the scene.
Also you should play Dota instead of LoL Darkforce, it's a much better game (see my objectivity right there? :D) and I predict it is much easier to get into the proscene there compared to LoL in the near future, because right now there are still a lot of very oldschool players who aren't super skilled (of course they are good, everyone at a high level is, but just not THAT good compared to potential newcomers) involved (of course the audience isn't as large at the moment, that's a negative point about it).
Too bad I always enjoyed watching him play. And he was, and still is, one of the most knowledgeable players about maps. Good luck in poker and whatever else you do, Darkforce!
GL HF Darkforce! I guess if you lose passion for something their is no point proceeding with it, i salute you for that. Respect goes out to ATN to, they in your words seem a good honorable team who pay people right and do the right things, a big loss for them.
I have nothing against, but you were one of those zergs that liked camp on broodloord deathball. Saw it when you played against Feast in one of WoL tournaments in the past. Then i read about league of legends, easier game doesnt mean that you'll be better if you go professional. ANYWAY, good luck to you, just saying.
On February 10 2013 03:22 nooboon wrote: Nice to hear that aTn took care of their players. So many tales about bad organizations so its good to hear something positive about one.
Good luck with everything Darkforce.
They really did take good care of us. The only downside was pretty much that their page was almost only in german (with few exceptions).
Last time i remember seeing him play was in NASL when tyler aka nony beat him and everyone, including myself was like nony is back!!! overalll though i thought he was a good player!
Sad to see you retire, best of luck in your future! The Lapdance, trolling Naruto on Stream, your victory against alive at NASL, so many memories... will you still be on Szenecast and continue your Videoblogs from time to time?
That's sad. He always sounded so enthusiastic and detail-oriented about SC2. And also a German hope in the early international tournaments (around NASL 1). But he didn't rise like the other Zergs in 2012 and you couldn't see him at all in the end of 2012.
Good luck for future endeavours!
I wonder whether Team Alternate looks for other players now or if Socke will be the only player in the squad. This seems to be a popular model for German clans right now. Moreover, I wonder how strong the competition in the next EPS will be.

Note sure if serious. If thats no joke, Darkforce has lost alot of sympathy from me.
Not sure if you're 12 years old or have other issues but either way I doubt your sympathy is worth anything to anyone if you throw it around that easily and revoke it for basically no reason at all.
It's very unfortunate and might I add unexpected as well to see Darkforce retiring. Sure, when you look solely at results he wasn't exactly a top 5 or maybe even top 10 foreign player, many would say his career was rather mediocre and some would even say "who is darkforce?". However watching his games I would generally see these flashes of inspiration, personally I felt like he definitely had the potential to stand at the very top of the foreign scene. So naturally I was hoping he would find his way out of this rut and return a completely new, stronger Darkforce.
But hey, gotta respect the man's choice in the end. Good luck with Poker and/or LoL.
a really funny, honest and unique person and one of the few sc2 players who made me root for him just by having an awesome personality (only white-ra and haypro managed to do so aswell) best luck for your poker games, gogo next elky !
LoL.....yeah go be with the rest of the lame pros (fruit dealer) and turn your back on us We know your true intention is because of LoL. With that aside sad to see you go, with all your awesome predictions like idra not making it out of his group hahaha
You shouldn't read too much into it. If it's anything like broodwar was, I'd say 6 in 10 progamers would say the same thing. Once you do something for money, it suddenly feels less like a hobby, and more like work.
GL with everything you do in the future; it has been a pleasure to watch your games, Vods and Szenecast-appearances. Thank you for everything, you have done and apperently still do from time to time.

Just my opinion and i forgot: good luck in anything you gonna do : )

because he plays a game you don't like?
how old are you? 12?
25
For you to say it like that, Darkforce proberly never had alot of your sympathy. If he did have your sympathy you should be a man and respect his life choices.

What are what I don't even huh...No comprendo. And that last sentence in your post...Darkforce already knows that, he mentioned it in his post...lol...I don't get why people like you post, honestly.
I remember darkforce being a scary zerg since beta. GL in whatever you choose to do next, sir.
That's super sad, he was one of my favorite players. With great potential to defeat *anyone* all of a sudden. He had some amazing deep runs in tournaments and was also helpful to the community with strategies and advices. He'll be missed. All the best with future directions and gl on the poker tables!
damn i feel horrible for pro gamers. they seem to get burned out and fun seems to turn serious really fast when you have to play to win all the time because it becomes a job.
i have a lot of respect for those that stick through it, cuz the highs are great but the lows must be awful. this is such a great game and so much fun, i'm really glad i'm just an amateur gamer enjoying the ride lol. (i'm perfectly fine with my master league status )
Actually not thaat surprising considering you really havent seen a lot of him. But kinda strange, i was just yesterday thinking about what happened to him... Pretty sad he was always around in the scene except for the last few months. I guess its the best for him
On February 10 2013 03:35 Doublemint wrote: Oh Darkforce... You were one of the cool guys and will be missed, no doubt about it. All the best in your future endeavors!
I was just watching his stream recently because i was wondering how hes doing. I thought maybe with hots he could find some passion for starcraft again but it appears it didnt help. If you really cant enjoy your job, theres no reason to pursue it any further. It became pretty obvious some month ago, when he first said he loses concentration very quickly in sc2 but i guess he really tried to overcome that the past month.
but yea i respect your decision, it makes sense and i hope you can find fun somewhere else. I thought you stopped poker for a good reason, im not sure about the details but poker is a hard business i guess.
Aww kinda lame. I watched alot of your videos and I liked them alot since you were really honest about everything you talked about. I liked that alot.
gl hf with poker but in 3-4 months you will be bored of it. Hope you still find a place sonewhere in the esports scene. Ever considered casting? Maybe with Take?

I considered casting. With Take? No, i think that wouldnt work so well. Also he has enough casters :D
Too bad after Cloud not playing EPS anymore another loss for the german scene. I understand the reasoning though and I respect the decision since it's better to know when to quit than to keep chasing after something with a lack of motivation.
I am really sad about this :/. On of the pillars of the german comunity. Even though you werent that active anymore I still liked seeing you play and talk about SC2 and your thoughts on sc2pro.de.
GL in your future and keep doing what you like best!
*shrug* being forced to do something (or he wouldnt fulfill his part of the contract)
at least 10 hours a day for several years will prob take the fun out of things for most people anyway.
Darkforce Ive always liked you as a player, perhaps casting sc2 might be fun for you? We need more pros casting this game!
Yea casting would be great, but im not sure where to start? If someone needs a caster, PM me !!!
If you're serious about it and would do something longer than a one-day-tournament, I'd really like it if you would cast the upcoming season of Ritmix RSL. They haven't announced an English caster, ToD did it last time but it seems like he isn't there for this season.
If you're interested, click the link above or drop Panishev a PM directly!
I'm pretty sure they'd be happy with a pro as a caster again, it attracts attention on its own.

Aw man, Darkforce was always up there representing the German SC2 scene with Socke and Hasuobs. Shame he never got his break, I remember seeing some great games from him at a Homestory or IEM or Dreamhack (watched so many I forget).

I'm not a massive fan of Skype casting really unless I absolutely have to (Iron Squid was a good example of that since, Sean is on the other side of the world!) : / there's a second or so delay which can make for poor flow sometimes. So yeah I generally would much rather cast with someone right next to me ^_^

Damn, what a shame. Really a pillar of the German SC2 scene indeed. I sincerely hope he stays in the scene as a caster. Just started streaming on twitch, too.
So sad, i always liked Darkforce quite alot. Kind of a huge blow to the german pro scene and Alternate, maybe they can pick another good player in the future.
Darkforce was the first progamer I ever met, at the NASL Season 1 finals. He was such a nice guy, and really dedicated, first person to show up and was practicing well into the night when there were only 5-6 people in the whole place. I have a lot of respect for him as a person and a player, and will miss him. Best of fortune to you in the future, Darkforce, and I hope we see you around again someday!
Darkforce was always such a baller, he is so down to earth and whenever he talks he just makes to want to listen. This is strangely emotional for me but I do hope we get to see/hear him around the place even now he has retired. Can we pimp his youtube in the OP too? I hope he still makes some vlogs every now and again :D http://www.youtube.com/user/SC2DarKFoRcE
We really was kind of brilliant at times. I thought he'd win a tournament sooner of later cause when he was on he was really amazing. But yeah, not doing well for long periods can dampen any player. GLHF Darkforce
I wonder what it is about SC2 and poker, it seems people who play one often play the other. I wonder how successful he believes he can be compared to SC2. Is it easier/harder? Maybe he just has more passion for it. Aah well who knows. GL darkforce, you entertained us for a few years and it was fun!
On February 10 2013 05:37 Fidel wrote: Really overrated player. Starts a shitstorm in chat each time he played against TLO, just because he was not as good as TLO. I will not miss him.
The german scene has some undefined reservations against TLO. Nobody really knows where and when it started. But in the case of Darkforce I would say it was his general half ironic chat style and nothing specific for TLO.
Good luck Darkforce. I personal think everything ended as you started to play Diablo III. Hope you will not play fulltime poker again, because it makes people brain dead (more then playing zerg).

Wow I really feel sad right now. I've always seen DarKFoRcE as a funny, interesting and very open personality. Actually had the luck of talking to him once and really enjoyed it. Let's hope he somehow remains active in the community, even without being a pro. Would be a great pity to lose him entirely.
This sucks. I always thought Darkforce the dark horse of most tournaments he entered and his play was fun to watch. And he always seemed like a genuine and intelligent man.
Good luck with everything! Hope you stick around the scene!
I liked this guy, he always seemed like a fun jovial dude on SOTG. not surprised that he found sc2 to be boring and didnt have motivation to play. deathball vs deathball zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. i hope he'll still be a guest on SOTG every now and then. but probably only a few more months before #sc2isdead
I had the pleasure of being to meet DarkForce in NASL Season 1, he was a great guy and was pretty awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed watching his play. I still got my NASL Season 1 Banner, signed by DarkForce!
Hopefully we still see him in the scene, whether it be casting, or as a coach.
tbh his story mirrors one of my buddies pretty much to the T except instead of LoL he went to play dota 2 (granted hes not a pro like darkforce only went to a few mlg open brackets ect..) He (and me) have pretty much just lost any will power to play the game anymore, its really stagnant in WoL and HotS is even more boring looking than WoL is / was pretty much.
On February 10 2013 03:15 BlackGosu wrote: best of luck. we are at the stage where foreigners now phase out
Firstly, more koreans have retired lately than foreigners?
Secondly, the fact that heart of the swarm is a new game should aid foreigners more than mechanically more skilled players. At this point in the game, good strategies can trump mechanical skill much more easily with Heart of the Swarm than Wings of Liberty. So if anything, foreigners have a better shot now than then.
I wish him best of luck. He is/was a very nice player... but why League of Legends? No no, just kidding. ;-) Good luck and have fun, hope you stick around
You were one of the most game-defining Zerg players in europe prior to Stephano's break-out. Thanks for everything you did for us, and best of luck to your future endeavours!

Destiny is getting peak 8k viewers now days from League.
I think he means in the actual tournaments rather then streaming.
Only ex sparkyz b-teamer tazza has broken out in LoL (Jungles for the current ogn champs) the rest are 100% mia.
LittleBoy/oGsKkoma is the coach for SKT's LoL team, but I don't think it really counts since his background was Korean MOBA's before transitioning briefly to SC2.
Meh! Liked DF quiet a bit, his analytical skills were outstanding I think, too bad didn't work out for him as well as he had planned. Maybe he'll be around in HotS if it goes well for him! Good luck in Poker!
I think its pretty hard to break into the LoL pro-scene, because probably alot is also about having connections and knowing people, not necessarily just being a good player. But just alone becoming a really good player is quite hard, because others started so much earlier =)
I read your ama on reddit, those stories were pretty interesting to read I must say. I don't have a reddit account though, so I cannot post a question of my own but I wanted to ask something quick. Between pro gamers how often do you guys stretch or do exercises? I mean things to prevent carpal tunnel and such things. I'm just interested to know if the majority does stretch before they play or they don't. I know you should really do it anyways though.

It seems all the retiring people quit SC2 and go back to Poker...which makes me think.....that they never play SC2 out of passion and love in the first place, it is all about money, thats my opinion

Being progamer is so time consuming that you have to rely on money. I don't know where you are from, but in Germany if you don't have a good amount of money, you are not going anywhere. And being a progamer while also going to work... just doesn't work at least not on t he higher levels.

Everybody has bills to pay, and its not cheap to live in Europe ( in fact is it any where these days?). So unless you have a sponser , inherit money or get lucky on the lottery etc you have to work. I guess you already know this as most people do
DarkForce was terrible when he started and had no talent for the game, yet with his incredible learning skills and perseveration he became one of the best zergs. Had he kept playing with passion longer he could have done extremely well in international tournaments. He is one of the few progamers who openly express their opinion, which deserves a lot of respect. GL with poker and LoL, I'm sure he will do well.

Theres a second delay if you skype from Germany to USA obviously but if you skype from Germany to Germany it should be very marginal. Ive seen it work pretty well for a lot of other casters who do that frequently.
I dont want to push Kaelaris and Darkforce casting duo too much, all i say is: i would tune in! I could imagine it could be quite awesome and im not so fond of solo casts. Also a 10 hour train ride just to try out casting to see how it goes isnt really justifiable imo.

Yup, it's obviously not as good as a live dual-cast, but over such a short distance it usually works relatively fine.
It would probably attract a bit more viewers than you usually do, Kaelaris, if it's the right tournament at least and not just Go4SC2 Wednesday #763. :D

gl hf with poker but in 3-4 months you will be bored of it. Hope you still find a place sonewhere in the esports scene. Ever considered casting? Maybe with Take?
Cheers.
I considered casting. With Take? No, i think that wouldnt work so well. Also he has enough casters :D
Come cast a few games with me in the ESL Studio
P.S. Sad to see you "go" man, was a pleasure casting your games
Too bad its a ~5 hour trainride to cologne :/ Otherwise i'd do that!
Skype?!?!

Well, if it's only because of audio delay you can use Mumble (almost no delay). I guess other gaming voice tools could work, too. No video, though.

you couldn't be more wrong, we're not 15 yrs old kids anymore, it doesn't matter how much someone likes SC2, it's just not worth putting this much time for so little rewards...
you gotta think about the future at some point :/
edit: oh and fwiw Darkforce I would suggest not trying to make a living at NL100, if you can you should wait until you beat 2/4 for a decent sample then you can start cashing out without hurting your progress at all

Secondly, dota2 being more worthwhile seems like a weird things to say, considering viewernumbers.

Oh well, good luck with Poker and LoL Darkforce!
Adapating to HotS is gonna take you A LOT of games. For most progamers, even if they already play a lot, to actually keep up with everyone else they are going to have to invest even more time into the game.
If Darkforce can make a somewhat stable living out of poker he's making a very wise choice.

Totally agree
I can see how DoTA2 has more depth, but it is nowhere as enjoyable of a game.
Good luck anyways! Didn't follow the EU Scene much, but I think you did a good choice in leaving SC2. The game doesn't have much future, and when you want to make a living out of a video game, you should pick one that is not dying

Awsome! I hope you can make it. We wil announce the next tourney soonish (will be hots). If you have any questions concerning the event feel free to contact me!
never one to mince his words and be afraid to criticize things wrong with the (pro)scene yet never trying to find excuses when his perfomances didnt live up to what they couldve been as he seemed (what do i goldnoob know) to have great analytical knowledge of the game and a nice guy too (met him once) - you will be missed!
hope the large number of posts here make you feel better about the time you spent progaming with SCII - seeing as you seemed to have not been enjoying yourself playing and taking active part (Szenecasts and so on) in the scene lately.
maybe we´ll bump into each other again, after all, Erlangen isn´t that far away :-), GL from Ansbach!

Slighty off-topic If I recall correct, didn't Dota 2 just surpass some viewnumbers recently? Maybe it was just on twitch I dont know.
Anyway, good luck, was awesome seeing you play, and happy you found something you enjoy again. And btw, you look pretty awesome tbh. Ever considered at some point to be Lightforce?
wow darkforce im sad and happy at the same time , i mean it was a great time with you in the sc2 comm u are such a positiv guy and i wish u best of luck and dont forget : OVERLORD BAUEN ! :D hf buddy
Gonna miss cheering for you darkforce but will still be looking forward to some more awesoe videos in the future!! Best of luck with wherever life takes you😃
[B] -Also I will play more League of Legends, but obviously its hard to break into the Proscene there, so im not going to put that much hope into getting anywhere there, but you never know what will happen :D
Greetings, DarKFoRcE
sad to see him go, but that line saddened me the most... the fact that he even thought about LoL. Just shows how much pros aren't being appreciated in the SC2 scene.. CMON GUYS CHEER FOR THE FOREIGNERS (especially if they play for your country).
So sad news, I wish you the best what ever future steps you take and hope, that you will still be a part of the comunity. I always liked your insights in blogs, videos or show-apperences
On February 13 2013 10:14 katzenman wrote: here is an (german) interview with darkforce about his decision. maybe someone would like to translate that, its too late for me today ^^
Mind you neither English or German are my first language.
Fragster: DarkForce, you recently announced your retirement even though Alternate offered to resign you. Why didn't you extend your contract, considering that in some sense it's easily earned money.
DarkForce: On one side I simply didn't have the motivation to play SC2 and didn't want the constant pressure of knowing I should practice more. On the other side Alternate has always been fair to me and is one of the few teams in eSports that doesn't try to cheat players. That's why I thought it would be unfair to Alternate to accept a yearly contract with a salary I shouldn't realistically be receiving.
Fragster: That approach is unusual in the scene. Would you wish for more people to follow your example and carry themselves the same way?
DarkForce: Well, I also think, in general players get the short end of the stick. That's why no one can really blame them when a player does such a thing. It happens far more often that players get screwed over by teams or tournament organizations than the other way around.
Fragster: Does that mean, that for a better eSports payment behavior* needs to change?
DarkForce: Yeah the current payment behavior is definitely a problem. But part of the problem comes from the fact that in eSports, there's not that much money available yet. For relatively small amounts it doesn't pay off for the person that was cheated to hire an attorney. That's why contracts in eSports are often not worth much (except for Top-Players perhaps)**.
Fragster: What do you believe is the solution to these problems?
DarkForce: There is no short term solution in my opinion. In the long term, I believe that the audiences will continue to grow leading sponsors to fuel eSports with more money. This should make eSports as a whole more professional. Probably this won't completely solve the problem, because the management of teams simply has been around in eSports a long time and has a lot of experience with the way eSports currently handles itself. Players on the other hand are often young and handle in good faith***, who simply have to learn at first that promises have 0 value.
Fragster: Let's talk more about you as a person: How much time did you generally invest a week or a month as a pro-gamer?
DarkForce: For a long time I spent 5+ hours a day playing and the rest of the time I watched GSL/VOD/other tournaments. Some time during 2012 I played a lot less because I couldn't stay concentrated for hours on end. But even when I wasn't playing, I was often thinking about SC2 which certainly helped me a lot.
Fragster: Are your parents proud of what you've done?
DarkForce: My father more so than my mother I believe, but in the end they both supported me. My mother was just very skeptical when I paused my studies.
Fragster: Are you going to pick your studies back up?
DarkForce: No, as long as I can make money otherwise, I have little interest in a “normal” job. To that purpose, studying further wouldn't benefit me.
Fragster: You wrote in your facebook post that you want to focus more on LoL and Poker. Is it your goal to make a living with those?
DarkForce: Yeah I think with poker I should be able to make a living. LoL I will continue to play and if I become a good player, I'll attempt to get back into eSports again.
Fragster: Does this mean we'll be able to watch you play “Offline”-events in Las Vegas soon?
DarkForce: No, I've never been a big fan of multi table tournaments and I'm not very good at them. I'll be playing online cash games. Just for fun I would like to go to Las Vegas and while there I'd certainly play some poker.
Fragster: What is the biggest accomplishment of your career?
DarkForce: I think my 2-1 win versus aLive during the NASL finals was my biggest achievement.
Fragster: What is the biggest failure of your career?
DarkForce: Probably the 1-2 loss versus Sen also during the NASL finals. After that I spent 45 minutes signing autographs and then realized I was completely depressed. I went to bed at 7 and slept 12 hours.
Fragster: That I remember well, that was very depressing. Now that you've left the pro-scene, who is the best German pro-gamer?
DarkForce: Does Monchi count as German? Socke, HasuObs and Monchi are the best in general.
Fragster: Will we see you commentate SC2 or LoL in the future?
DarkForce: Well I'd love to cast, but there's two problems. Firstly, I'm not so super famous that everyone would instantly want me. And secondly, I live 5 hours by train from Collogne, so I couldn't even get to the ESL studio to cast with Kaelaris or something. But if anyone reads this and wants me as a caster, I'd welcome the invitation, best sent as a pm on Team Liquid!
Fragster: Do you prefer English or German?
DarkForce: Well I think my English is pretty good, so I don't care either way.
Fragster: You said you might come back into eSports some day with LoL. How does it look for SC2, especially now that HotS will introduce severe changes in SC2-gameplay?
DarkForce: Well, I've played some HotS-beta before I decided to quit SC2 and what I saw didn't really inspire me. Perhaps I'll feel like playing SC2 again in a year and will try to get back into eSports, but for now that's impossible to say.
Fragster: Socke is now the last SC2 player on team Alternate. If you could pick a successor for yourself, who would it be?
DarkForce: Hmm, I can't think of anyone this instant, sorry.
Fragster: Is there already someone in talks?
DarkForce: I don't know, I'm no longer involved. Fragster: I thank you for your time and effort. Do you have any final words for the community?
DarkForce: Thanks for your support and even now I'm no longer playing, I still plan to make videos for my youtube channel. Other news you can find on my facebook or twitter.
*Zahlungsmoral, refers to the way players are rewarded for their efforts. I believe it's a thinly veiled shot at ESL without stating as much. But that's my own interpretation, maybe DarkForce can explain in more detail. I'm basing it on a recent statement he made on reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/18dekb/how_riot_and_esl_are_not_paying_tournament_prizes/c8dtn14 **As a player it's important to evaluate any agreement that you sign. For contracts, I'd recommend teams and players base them on the old G7 contracts which are relatively solid compared to some others I've seen. ***Naive perhaps fits better

No. Dota 2 hasn't even come close to league. The season 2 world championships were stated to have had over 8 million unique viewers over the whole thing. And their weekly LCS has about 100 - 200k viewers.
Gl Darkforce just remember that you know that you're beautiful. And have fun with poker.

It's not an opinion, its a fact that he is wrong, also Darkforce doesnt go to league. He just plays it for fun, not competetive. He plays competitve poker as he said. This post is just mindless bashing on sc2.
Competitive poker? How low can someone get, sweet Jesus...
I mean, you literally have to have ZERO skills in anything life related to rely on "competitive"poker as a source of income.
I can understand quitting sc2 though, it is a rough environment where personality is your only selling point where you can make money, just look at team Evil Geniuses.
You need to market yourself, have a team of media savvy technicians to make positive videos, and you have to have semi decent skills at SC2 to make it work outside Korea.
It's a shame how low we've fallen, but I think with HoTS, some of the scrubs might start watching again.
I hope we haven't lost them to LoL for good though, they better come back and watch us PROS!
Right guys?
Oh that's right, I forgot that the PRO vs. SCRUB mentality destroyed this community. The PROS never realized they can't be pro without scrubs to watch them.
This is why Starcraft can rest in peace, there is no respect for skill, there is no support in the community for growing talents. It is only PROS in Masters and beyond vs ALL THE SCRUBS.
Guess what? The scrubs have moved onto greener pastures where they don't have to deal with ADHD nerds telling them they're beta nerds. I mean, look at the number of smurfers on the ladder right now, people that just want to mock others for their lack of skills.
Starcraft 2 is a terribly designed game, with a terrible user interface, a terrible player base consisting of unemployable scum, the bottom of the barrel of humanity. It was created as a cash cow for Blizzard, who will invest as little as possible into the game and reap the highest rewards possible.
