I'm surprised that a thread hasn't sprung up yet since this has been up on reddit since this morning. I can't read Korean, and Google Translate only produces gibberish for long text in Korean, but apparently, Fnatic is closing down their Korean gaming house according to thisisgame.com's article.

After 10 months in operation, it seems that Fnatic has started cleaning up the apartment, removing the furniture, chairs and equipment, and the closure had been planned for some time. Apparently, accommodation for the players has already been arranged. The news comes about as Fnatic turned down participation for the next GSTL.

Recently, Fnatic lost four of their Korean members, being Ares, ByuL, Moon and Rain, as well as their manager and coach Hwanni, who moved to EG. aLive even changed his Twitter handle, removing the Fnatic tag, though rumours of his departure have been denied by Fnatic representatives and aLive himself.

I will keep this post up to date with any translations of the article, and any reactions by Fnatic.

Fnatic's current roster:
(T)aLive
(P)Oz
(Z)Luvsic
(P)Harstem
(T)Naama
(P)NightEnD

Personal opinion: I think Fnatic took a huge blow with the departure of Hwanni, and could not effectively manage the team without a dedicated link and a coach. Their results in the GSTL were pretty good considering, and whilst it is true that perhaps aLive and Oz slumped a lot, they still managed to foster ByuL into becoming a big team league asset.

PS: For GSTL, the probability is that AZUBU and Axiom will replace TSL and Fnatic.

Close up shop, restart, reconsider strategy of not pouring your entire roster into Koreans while dismissing any potential exposure and marketing opportunities you can do with your non-Korean players.

Wow. It was such a nice team house, too. Was very exciting at the time.

If this turns out to be true, I fear there will be too many good free agents on the market. Unless KeSPA picks up a bunch of players, I see a bunch of these guys retiring =/

Too many player, less money => Cheaper players. Teams have a huge amout of free agents to choose from and with most teams having huge lineups already, its not likely that many of the free agents will get a new team with a salary.

There will be a lot of things coming for Fnatic StarCraft 2 in 2013. People have speculated that it's going downhill for the Fnatic SC2 division, I've spoken to the SC2 manager and things aren't going downhill at all, everything's looking bright going into this year!

It was downhill for me after Moon was booted. I understand perfectly well why they did it, but wanting to seen Moon play was what made me want to support Fnatic.

is this because of sponsors backing down from negotiating with organisations and teams? what is going on with esports right now...seems like so many teams are folding and going bust already this year. #worststartto2013

Nothing to do with sponsors.

Sadly, I can't say I'm surprised. They've been cutting back on their Korean players. I'd imagine this was a move long in the making (i.e. even before Hwanni left). Still, great team and good luck to all of them.
