Hi folks,

Im going to China this summer for about two years and I will be living in Shanghai. From what I read from previous posts the only reasonable option is to buy SEA version of the game.

My question is about global play coming out soon. I live currently in England and I got EU version. Playing on european servers wont be possible most likely due to a lag but what about korean, taiwanese, sout east china and north american servers? Would I be ok with my version of the game or I still need to buy SEA one?

What about that calling cards needed to play starcraft?

And the final question. Is it necessary to create new battle net account while Im gonna be in China? If i go to sea.battle.net to create an account what country of residence should I pick? Unites States, China, England or something else?

Thanks all

you don't need to buy one when you have global play becouse you can get on any server with yust one acount.
The harder it becomes, the more you should focus on the basics.

Hello, you don't need a new bnet account to buy the SEA client. But you shouldn't buy a SEA account if you go to china, the delay will be berger with a taiwanese (=korean, but without the need of korean id) account. Plus: SEA grants you SEA ans US but it's like 70$ while the taiwanese account ils cheaper. Plus 2: the level on the SEA server is the worst out of call while the korean ils the best. Plus 3: with the taiwanese account you van choose tout download the KR or TW client which means you van chose the korean or mandarin chinese language.

you won't be able to play hots global in china, sorry. you will have to play with in china only.

and I doubt you will see Global play for normal WOL sc2 before HOTS, Blizzard was full of bs when they told the community that fib. HOTS is less then 2 months away.

Thanks Sase,

Im not really concerned about global play. All I want is to be able to play Starcraft 2 at all. There will be no problem with getting chinese version and creating an account on their battle net as my wife is chinese so surely she will help me out.

Lets say, if I get taiwanese version with taiwanese battle net I will get access to korean servers as well?

Most of the people on here advise not to play on chinese ladder due to underpopulated servers and level of skills.

The Taiwanese server and Korean server are the same.

Hi,

This is my second year in Shanghai and I never got the Chinese version, simply because I would be depending on a chinese person to create and pay for my account because you need a chinese credit card and there is no English on their forums. I just play on the SEA/KR region, the ping is too demotivating to play a lot, especially higher on the ladder where the delay hurts a lot. It might be my connection, the chinese connection in general or the chinese monitoring etc. So I just can't wait till i move to EU again.

How did it work out for you anyway?

Sorry if I don't understand your question too well (really sleepy).

But when I went to China for a month, I played my NA version pretty fine. Internet isn't THAT much slower than mine at home. You may be able to just play on your EU version fine.

I play on the EU server. Lag is decent, but recently been getting awkward disconnection errors. I recommend playing on the TW/SEA/NA server if you are here. Or just getting a Chinese acc. Go to /r/StarCraftChina and there are great instructions on how to sign up for a Chinese Battle.net account!

StarCraft II Global Play is not available to players in mainland China+1. "Mainland China is outside the Earth", you can not use Youtube or Twitter there without VPN.

If you want to play in CN region, You must buy a CN account in Shanghai. (90 CNY for unlimited game time, but players who is under 18 yrs old or used fake Chinese ID No. to create CN account, can only play a few hours every day.)

BTW, no one knows when CN region can play HOTS, although players who bought CN unlimited WOL will play unlimited HOTS for free.

PS: You may use some 3rd party tools to change client language or play other regions (e.g. EU) with one client.

PPS: CN version must pay online. You must buy the card called "战网一卡通" or "战网点卡" or “魔兽世界点卡”, and enter the codes on your CN account page. If your wife don't know what card to buy, she can ask people whom in "百度星际2吧".

PPPS: Global play let you play all non-CN regions, including TW/KR. It will available on March 12.

You can play NA KR or SEA from CN with EU account now so you don't have to buy another one, global play is available. The ping from CN to NA - KR - SEA is fine.
You also dont need to buy CN account because it's only for Chinese people with ID and stuff

Honestly just buy the Chinese version; it's 90 RMB ($15 USD) for WoL, and with that purchase you get a FREE upgrade to HoTS when it comes out.

You can't really complain paying only $15 for all that.

Edit:

I didn't have one; but this Chinese ID generator should did the trick.

http://www.tool7001.com/

In box 1 it goes:

Place (select any, doesn't really matter)
Date of Birth (make sure the ID is an adult one)
Sex (doesn't matter)
Generate (# of IDs to be generated)

Then you can register with that ID on http://www.battlenet.com.cn/zh/

Actually, you can go to any internet cafe to buy the card.

TW/KR server may lag sometimes in Shanghai.
If you want to play on Chinese server, I can signup an account for you.

I currently also live in China since 8 month. For me the internet connection is too bad to play on EU/NA.
Since without VPN it didn't work at all and when I use VPN the internet is too slow.
Does anyone know a good VPN or another way to play?
cheers for the input

Hey guys, I have a question regarding this topic.

Global play works fine in the sense that I can use my EU account to play on NA, but KR and SEA don't work for me. I absolutely cannot log into any of those two battle.net servers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its ninja button - at least for me, in the login screen try to press login without ur password typed in.. it should show the "REGION" button on the left side of the screen. Then u just pick server and go
"AFTER LOST GAME - I usually run around in circles yelling "WHY OH GOD WHY" in my room, pointing towards the sky. After 5 to 10min ,i get tired and go back to playing"

Since this post get high in search I feel it is necessary to clarify from my own experiences - if you buy the Taiwan version the UI will be forced to Traditional Chinese and there is no apparent ways to change it to English or other language. I assume similar for China version of even Korea version - you may want to double check before buying any version that's not native to you.
