After an abbreviated initial week, the Proleague marathon is in full swing, and it's time for an update on racial results overall. Map stats are going to wait at least another week, although there are a few things I'll mention in passing. Without further ado, I'll move on to the summary.
For Reference: Week 1
Overall Lineup Distribution
Lineups (72 games): 51 Protoss, 45 Terran, 48 Zerg This Week (48 games): 35 Protoss, 30 Terran, 31 Zerg Games Played (68 games): 45 Protoss, 42 Terran, 49 Zerg This Week (45 games): 28 Protoss, 29 Terran, 33 Zerg
Commentary: While the overall lineups are slightly weighted towards Protoss so far, the story of the week is Zergs coming out for ace matches. Tal'Darim Altar was the map for 2 of the 4 aces played, but we also got RorO on Ohana. Antiga Shipyard sees about half Zerg (but only one mirror); Arkanoid is overwhelmingly Terran; Caldeum and Cloud Kingdom Protoss; Tal'Darim Altar Zerg. Bifrost has seen the best distribution; Ohana and Planet S are okay but haven't seen many Zergs.
Games Played
Lineups: Mirrors Non-Mirrors Overall This Week Overall This Week 12 PvP 9 PvP 10 PvT 9 PvT 9 TvT 5 TvT 17 TvZ 11 TvZ 7 ZvZ 6 ZvZ 17 ZvP 8 ZvP
Games Played: Mirrors Non-Mirrors Overall This Week Overall This Week 11 PvP 7 PvP 9 PvT 8 PvT 7 TvT 4 TvT 19 TvZ 13 TvZ 8 ZvZ 7 ZvZ 14 ZvP 6 ZvP
Commentary: Reality has set in, as witnessed by the steadily climbing number of mirror matches. We're currently at 26 mirrors to only 42 non-mirrors played, and even that is inflated by the high number of TvZs this week - not actually that high, but much higher than the other matchups. As hinted at in the first section, the trends emerging so far are that maps seem either good for Terran and Zerg, or good for Protoss. (Tal'Darim and Arkanoid are very heavy on Zergs and Terrans respectively, but have seen a few of the other - and virtually no Protoss). Result: PvP is the 3rd most common matchup at this point.
Protoss 24; Terran 21; Zerg 18
Non-Mirror Results Overall This Week PvT (9 games): 5-4 5-3 TvZ (19 games): 10-9 5-8 ZvP (14 games): 6-8 3-3
Commentary: Inflated by the number of Protoss mirrors as it is, Protoss also holds the only winning record across non-mirrors, giving the sons of Aiur the lead in the early going here. Terran breaks even; Zerg is back a couple games.
Wrap
And that's this week's installment of the balance report. On the agenda for next week (now that we're into the regular schedule): week-to-week tracking (and prettier graphs? lolno).

this just goes to show that maps are really important balance wise. Protoss players dont play on TDA for example, because the map favors zerg.) I think maps need to be made to accomodate each and every race so we wont get this overload on mirrors.
However with the current state of sc2 I don't think it can be done. (safe thirds are a must for protoss players, except for 2 base plays, while zerg don't need such secure thirds. just compare dual sight with ohana or cloud kingdom for reference.

That's how proleague works. They throw out maps (not meant in a derogatory way), and sometimes the maps aren't perfectly balanced. This leads teams to always put the strongest race on the map, leading to many mirrors (unless they decide on a race based sniper strat against the strong race).
Then those mirror matchups get ridiculous and they drop the map because it offers no variety in what is seen.
While there may be maps which are somewhat imbalanced from appearances, teams have not necessarily had time to develop strats for those maps, and if they do end up being mirror focused, they will be replaced by other maps.
I like the fact proleague stuck seemingly ridiculous maps like Arkanoid in their, because they have the failsafe of teams being able to play f. example terran every time if they really can't find a way to beat terran, but there's also the chance that they might throw out other races and be able to compete, and then map makers might think "wait, this map LOOKS like it should be ridiculously unbalanced, but actually it's not that bad... maybe we can work with this and make new maps that aren't always the same easy third open map macro game type".

This is more the proleague system at work then anything else.

Am I and how2TL the only ones who read this as sarcasm? :o
The increase in mirror matches is nothing surprising, imo. One nice thing about proleague are the new exotic maps and even if they turn out incredibly balanced in the long run, there will always be times where the trend of the metagame greatly favors one race over the other on a specific map. I, for one, really enjoy those new maps. :D

Somewhat surprised at the Zerg win percentage, but it has felt like the Zergs in proleague have been a bit off at times.
I'm just happy to see the fairly even race distribution for wins, and the lack of many ZvZs. And I love the crazy maps they're putting in, even if they're blatantly imbalanced, they're fun to watch and teams can always put out the race most suited for it anyway.

Exactly. I'm sure most people see the sarcasm in it, but it's not a useful post at all.
