This is what companies with a public profile do all the time, if you are in a public environment you need to be careful of what you say/do, as it "represents the company you represent", which is why the company will obviously check any public statements.
Third, why are people whining about EG's response. This is not about whether what was said was right or wrong, since that is up to the reader and the context he wants to put it in. It's about the fact that it went public. I'm pretty sure most of EG doesn't actually care about the phrase itself from a personal point of view, but from a public point of view, EG can't let this kind of thing happen, of course they need to punish Stephano.

if it went to court, at least here in Canada since I've seen it happen, he'd at most be levied a fine and perhaps a restraining order.

But as you can see theres that 2 or 5 year buffer depending on age, I've know a guy who was drunk at a party and the girl said she was 16 (he was 19) and they had sex, next day he found out she was 14 and eventually it lead to the police getting involved. I think he had to pay a small fine and had 2 months probation, imo he should have gotten nothing.... What is he suppose to do? ID the girl?

But you CAN give consent. Whether it is recognized legally or not.
From a non arbitrary law based standpoint it isn't comparable to an actual forced rape.

In North America (I usually speak with regards to Canada but probably US to) it is considered "rape" and non-consensual.
