Stupidity from all involved. From the initial comment, to the reddit reaction and to EGs response. To me, this is not an issue of professionalism, but one of privacy and the harsh negative reality of trying to make a living out of turning chucks of your everyday life in to entertainment. Do we, do the players and do the "professional" teams (who have no problem employing teenagers full-time at laughable wages without any view to their future prospects) know the consequences of giving up privacy to this degree? It would seem not.
Besides, it's hard not to become disillusioned with the SC2-scene when drama-bullshit like this is topping the front-pages every week. Why must we make these non-events the center of attention?

He never said it was ok. He said it's not raping which is true. If she consented (assuming he wasn't joking) then it wouldn't be rape. I dunno if it's illegal in france as I don't know the age of consent in france or w/e country but yeah...

EG was forced to do this. They're probably under a lot of pressure to remove him from the team entirely. You guys know what happened, people out there decide that it's their responsibility to contact sponsors. I'll never understand what goes through someone's head when they do it, but a lot of people do it. It wasn't just SC2 fans doing it this time, there were other subreddits that were offended and getting people to mail sponsors.
I really, really, REALLY hate when people say "killing esports", but people who contact sponsors are killing esports. The scene needs to grow, but people get so offended by one comment that they have to go and scare money away. That means less of everything. Idiots! If you have a problem with someone's behavior contact the team and let them deal with it so that competitive gaming can grow and sponsors don't have to constantly second guess themselves.

It's kind of funny. For major athletes and celebs, the punishment/suspension/fines are not uncommonly bigger than the stories themselves (stupid shit like Spygate, or when someone tweets something stupid). They kind of draw more bad publicity by overreacting to it so terribly. On the other hand, if sponsors contact EG and say, "WTF is this shit, man," what choice do they have? Especially in an industry (ESPORTS!!!) that is not financially stable.

And I agree that not everyone finds the same things humorous. Some people probably found this funny. But when you're a professional who has to consider sponsors and the image of other people and your team and other organizations besides just yourself, making these kinds of comments don't do a good job of representing everyone. Because most people don't find arbitrary rape jokes (that don't appear to be jokes) funny... because getting raped isn't actually funny. It's a maturity thing >.>
