I'm sure EG (and many others) knew something like this was coming and prepared for it in the contract. However, statutory rape is probably more frowned about than Nazi comments in the US, so I wonder if EG got more than they bargained for.

A cool fact is that it takes literally zero effort to not make a rape joke. Just sit still and tah-dah! You successfully didn't make a fucking awful rape joke.

he not really said raping ... for me sounds more like bad spoken "sex" and so its legal and no problem and i dopnt see problem of all haters here ...

How can you not just agree that it's a rape joke. It's not like y'all wouldn't be defending it in exactly the same way as if he explicitly said he raped someone. "I don't get why rape is bad anyway!" There's this mental block with esports fans where they think jokes about rape need to be defended but they don't. Rape jokes are not sacred, they're awful. They're fucking terrible and let them just die out. Make your own RapeStarLeague but keep it out of mainstream SC2.

They suspended him for THAT? Hahah
If EG is suspending people for stupid jokes, then Geoff Robinson would have a suspension to last him a life time.
None of this makes any sense, he never should have joined them in the first place
|
He probably shouldn't have because he's a literal child but InControl and Idra haven't been making off color jokes for a very long time.
|
Who says it's just eSports fans? Quite a few comedy fans (not just stand up, but other forms as well) simply think that no subject matter is sacred enough to not make fun off. It's not that rape jokes are "teh bomb" and HAVE to be made, it's just the that people nowadays are too sensitive to the point where the word is reduced to purposes of fear-mongering.
Fuck, even Penny Arcade has done rape jokes in the past.
|
Oh well if penny arcade does it it's fine in my book. No! They have fucking awful views as well. Here's the secret. Most people have fucking awful views about rape. It's the default opinion. If you grow up like a piece of driftwood agreeing with everything society tells you, you'll think rape is god's gift to humanity.
Also what is this fearmongering bullshit, are you serious? I'm sure you're trembling in your boots, you might get suspended from your esports team for making a rape joke. Heaven forbid. It's sad that so many people have no clue what freedom of speech is. He's not being censored. He can continue to make rape jokes. EG isn't even going to stop him! In fact most rape apologists HATE freedom of speech because they want EG prevented from making decisions with their own money and want to squelch people's displeasure with off color jokes.
I don't want anyone censoring Stephano because I'd rather know that he's a colossal shitlord.
|
You just don't joke about that, that's fucking appalling. Grow up, Stephano.
|
oh wow. i've never seen a sadder bunch of people in my life... it's depressing that there are so many individuals with nothing better to do with their lives. :/
as for this situation, didn't we have ribery (famous footballer) and other guys do underaged prostitute and it later became public? what ever happened to that? joking about a similiar situation is stupid, but harmless. everyone knows stephano drinks too much to get it up anyways...

When the fuck have I mentioned freedom of speech.
And what makes you think your admittedly minority view of rape is the correct one? Guess what, we live in a society where majority views become the norm.
And 1 more time in case you didn't get it, coz it seems you havnt:
Rape is not ok, but jokes about anything is fine, it's not that rape jokes are so cool that they HAVE to be made. EDIT: And by fearmongering I don't mean jokes about rape, but rape itself. The whole "worst thing you could do to a woman" deal.

It takes no effort not to read the fucking newspaper, that doesn't mean if people are offended by you reading the newspaper, you should give it up. That's not an argument. It also takes no effort to simply ignore jokes you don't get, or people you don't like. Food for thought.

Nobody is "offended" because he talked about rape. People want Satouri to be accountable for either playing us like fools or for being an actual twisted individual who has indeed raped a young girl.
There are things too serious to take lightly. Terrorist/bomb/death threats are some of them, admitting to having raped a young girl is another. It's like tripping off the fire alarm. People aren't just going to roll their eyes and resign to the fact that you were "just doing it for teh lulz", you will be held responsible even if it was a joke and there was no fire. Same is happening to Satouri. EG sent the message that he isn't allowed to play on the community's sensibilities for his own amusement, that he is accountable for his actions from now on.
To Satouri and his "I wish I wasn't famous, this is such an inconvenience to me, waaah " well it's not too late for you, don't let the door hit you on your way out.

The problem with your analogy is, when you phone in a bomb threat you KNOW you're making a report.
In Stephano's case it could be A) a joke or B) a confession. Now, if he said it in public it was probably B. However, he said it in what he perceived to be a private convo with BlinG, who as he predicted, had the initial reaction of laughing to it. How could Stephano intend to "play us like fools" without knowing that other people would ever catch wind of it?

Well you have to differentiate between making a joke or a (maybe) funny statement.
This might offend some people but its a joke:
+ Show Spoiler + A little kid and a rapist are going through a dark and dire forest. Says the kid "uncle its scary here!" Rapist: look at myPoint of view i have to get out here alone again
Thats how a rapist joke looks like. Stephano made a really stupid statement not clearly noticable if its funny, trolling or even real. And making such a statement is manythings but professional. You all are crying for respectation and acceptance of e-sports/competitive gaming but in order to get that there has to be a certain lvl of proffesionalism. And in my Eyes EG did it just right.

LOL that was hilarious, although a serial child killer would've made more sense.
I've actually covered this point earlier in the thread (the apparent lack of punchline and typical joke structure). With how close BlinG and Stephano are it's possible that it's an inside joke.

After reading a few pages, it sounds like Stephano raped a toddler and posted pics to Bling.. So much drama and QQ in this thread. Sure it's inappropriate to joke about 'rape' but so are most jokes between friends. (it was not meant for public to see) If you disagree, tell me that all your comments be it on the internet or irl are always appropriate and double checked for political correctness. And if they shouldn't be only once, be glad we have a whole sub-community armed with pitchforks who will gladly point out your 'misbehavior'.
Overall, play more Starcraft and argue less about other peoples private chat.
Also, there should be more posts like TheKefka's :D + Show Spoiler +On October 13 2012 23:54 TheKefka wrote: Not sure why everyone is witch hunting Stephano. Incontrol wouldn't even sign his contract until EG made sure there were at least 5 different burger joints in a 2 mile radius of the team house.Dude cleans up White Castle faster than an army of Harolds & Kumars. Demuslims sole life is a huge expense.Dude is black listed at every health insurance company in the US.Last guy that managed to accomplish that was Evel Knievel. They were thinking of putting him in a sterile plastic ball but playing starcraft in it proved to be too much of a challenge. You really think those pictures and videos of IdrA smiling is actually him? It's fucking Machine. His only purpose on EG is to serve as IdrAs PR doppelganger. JYP got recruited just so Puma wouldn't come off as a token when they all travel together and LzGamer/Suppy serve as tax dummies so EG could explain the huge budget whole, made by Huks little hobby,to the IRS. Lord knows how Thorzaine fits in with all of this, wouldn't be surprised if he clubs baby seals in his leisure time. Last time I tried to check up on the background of Scoots,2 black cars were parked in my street for 2 months until I dropped it and my dog went missing.Only thing I could find is that the last name he used was Roger 'Verbal' Kint.
So Stephano likes milfs and 14 year olds.I don't think anyone on EG is in a position where they can point fingers at each other.
