I travel quite frequently to Australia for work so I know how painful the 14+ hours on a plane can be in both economy and business/first. It sucks and I wouldn't want to be competing in a huge tournament the day after arriving as I know some players end up doing this. That being said, international business/first tickets are often in the $10k + range when economy tickets are ~$1k. I work for a major company that employs 70k+ people and they have a pretty strict policy on whether or not you can fly business (i think it's 10+ hrs of travel). I wouldn't expect that pro gaming teams, even with their sponsors can afford to pay $5-$10k every time they send a player away for an international tournament. Absolutely no way, the expenses would be prohobitive and eSports teams are too small to get special arrangements.

I'd think he may know he has a very stylistic playstyle, one that Koreans could study really well... Just look what Oz did last time, he beat him very convincingly. And Oz isn't by far the biggest threat he will encounter... Of course I extrapolate, but still, I'm not really confident about his chances of success in Code S... It takes different skills to succeed there, as we saw with Naniwa...

To make it short for you: your scenario is absolutely impossible!

He might well be knocked out by any great code S player, but if he gets a low code S protoss, he should have more than 50% chance, as well as against any "code A caliber" player he could face. Well it's in the condition he would get this seed to GSL though.

Stephano got a small mini suspension from EG from attending some tournaments. Stephano salary is so big anyway that those small tournaments are basically chump change. EG probably said, okay well you are suspended , but hear what , Lets turn this punishment into a good thing, We will send you to korea to train, November is a huge month with alot of potiential to make big bucks, So go to korea and train your ass off so you can win atleast one of the big tournaments . Thats my thoughts and reasoning for stephano going korea. I dont think he is going to play in the GSL. If he was going to play in GSL he would have booked his ticket later, The code S finals hasnt happened yet and they are still more code A /Up and downs to play. If he is competing in the next season of GSL, that will come in another announcement.

Stephano's main complaint when declining numerous GSL seeds was GSL taking too long. I don't think that's very likely at all.

Regardless, that's a pretty damn long time to be sitting. I hope he at least has a laptop so he can entertain himself by casually crushing the AI on insane level. ![]() Luckily it should be easier to travel east. At least for me it has been much more difficult to do long trips to west. It's somehow more difficult to adjust to the time difference in that direction. When you go east it only means that you're not very sleepy in the evenings, which is pretty much the normal status for a progamers I guess.

Its more likely than being afraid of losing... He played a huge number of tournements and declined so many gsl but look how much he won this year, if he went to gsl he could make perhaps ro8 or even ro4 and lose a lot of money he could have made in internationals tournaments. He stated a long time a ago he wanted to do gsl but declined at the last moments because of internationnal tournaments. Perhaps he got his hands forced by EG but we dont rly know because he declined 3 tournaments and it doesnt show a good image of him and EG. Anyway i hope he doesnt get too tired from all the travels he will make.

I'm pretty sure it was about money. In the past, GSL would cost Stephano too much in opportunity cost. Now with the big EG salary, he can have both the money and a shot at the most prestigious title in SC2.
