Update 04/09: Ok people it's on since this morning 5 AM CET!!!
I have people asking me to update the OP with people suggestions, Ill be at work this morning (this was just supposed to be a discussion thread at first), so ill do my best while working AND watching gsl videos + Live GSL BTW I already watched Gumiho vs Slayers last GSTL, MAN THAT GUY IS A MONSTER!!!!!
Also I read somewhere in the thread that anything prior to april 2011 is already free, so concentrate on games after that!!
Have fun watching and keep us posted if you find any cool games!
Very nice thread, and thanks for linking mine . Feel free to add a bit more details about why the games are interesting and why you think these are worth watching, so that I could ask those to the Cool/Unusual SC2 games !
GSL Open Season 1 Ro16: San vs InCa (Only the Delta Quadrant game, the Scrap Station one sucks)
An underrated PvP that features Void Ray builds that we'll probably never see again. Unfortunately in another GSL San blocked his own Nexus with a cannon while trying to Forge expand was dubbed by Tastosis as 'the worst Code S player' until he beat NesTea .
I'm probably gonna try and catch some FruitDealer games from Open Season 1, just because I wasn't around for it. After that.. I can't even really answer, there are a lot of games I really want to watch but can't remember off the top of my head.
This has been free all the time, but if you haven't seen MMA vs Gumiho in the GSTL Final (FXO vs SlayerS) then you should go see that. One of the best TvTs without a doubt.
I'm gonna watch Mana's Up&Down matches cause I missed them thinking there was absolutely no way he would win a single one, but since I'm entirely wrong I figured I should.

Just an FYI, Open season 1-3 and GSL season (2011) up to March or April (I think) are free even outside of this event.
So if you have limited time, just focus on 2011 April + (as the ones before then are all free AFAIK).

The open seasons and the first 2 regular seasons (and the first 2 GSTLs) are already free for everybody at any time, so you don't need to do that during the anniversary period.
So is this free as in actually free or the "free" that they had a short while back where they automatically began charging you after your "free trial" was up?
On September 04 2012 02:50 Dosey wrote: So is this free as in actually free or the "free" that they had a short while back where they automatically began charging you after your "free trial" was up?
It's free. You don't even need an account to take advantage of this AFAIK (last year, I didn't have to log in).
OP, can you add people's suggestion there? Would make it easier to quickly glance and have an idea of what to watch. Thanks for the mention, I had no clue
For whatever reason, I keep going back to Bitbybitprime games. I believe they are all free all the time at this point, but they are worth checking out for a laugh.
I appreciate that OP made this thread for us. Granted, if this anniversary event continues for years to come, it would be nice to have more rigorous/organized thread that people can come back every year.
Last year, it was not clear if anniversary was one time only or not, but now that it happened twice, I think it is likely to continue as long as GSL exists. If GOMTV sees this anniversary as an opportunity to sell more tickets by showing how awesome GSL matches have been and therefore can be in the future, they will probably continue this event.
Maybe TL can make official anniversary thread that is updated after every GSL season? Something like "5 must-watch matches/series from this season GSL" for every season would be an easy way to come back. Or, "10 best matches/series in201X" could be better as more years pass. Alternatively, "10 best matches/series in WoL days" could be nice once HotS or LotV comes out. Linked threads in the OP are out of date for this role. The thread needs to be updated for the next, say, 10 years or so. Therefore, I think TL is the only one capable of doing so. As much as I want to make one myself, I cannot guarantee that I stay relevant to the community 10 years from now.
Every GSL season, many games are common metagame at the time and nothing special, but a few games are always noteworthy. Unfortunately, without comprehensive/dedicated thread, those great games often get obscured by hundreds of mediocre games that most people just don't have time to watch all of. For the future reference, I feel we need to highlight the games that stand the test of time.
I'd recommend almost all the finals. For various reason =P. Jjakji vs Leenock and DRG vs MMA of course. Some games from Squirtle vs MVP, TOP vs MVP and MMA vs MVP.
There are some videos I'd love to check out because I've long forgotten how they were though I remember having some interest in them at the time. - TOP vs Byun Code A finals. - Losira vs Supernova Code A finals. - Creator vs MVP Super Tournament Ro64 - Line vs TOP Ro8
Also almost any GSTL final. They've all been interesting. Some of the best games in all of starcraft 2 have come from GSTL.
So, if I'm not mistaken 2011 LG Cinema 3D Global StarCraft II League May (GSL May) is the first one made free by this anniversary. Everything before that is free today anyways. Therefore, it would be smart to skip FruitDealer games in Open Season 1 or BoxeR(MarineKing) vs Kyrix marine splitting against baneling in Open Season 2 Ro8. You can watch these outside these 48 hours. Not sure if NesTea vs sC Semifinal in GSL May was free before this, but I would start from there into NesTea vs Inca Final which I confirmed is not free outside 48 hours. Everything after that must be anniversary only free vods.
Also, make sure to buy tickets sometime in the future if you like what GOM is doing. I am sure GOM is watching closely how this event affects the ticket sales. This event is half generosity and half business after all.

You are correct. The 2011 World Championships are free, too, so focus on everything after that.
"In this spirit, we would like to announce that all TG-Intel STARCRAFT II Open Season 1, Sony Ericsson STARCRAFT II Open Season 2 and Sony Ericsson STARCRAFT II Open Season 3 VODs will be permanently made free to watch for everyone from January 21st 2012."

Definitily Ryung vs Drg last season r16 on whirlwind (game 1)
Did you see MvP vs Squirtle Finals?
Can think of any right now but I also missed a lot of games so ill tell you as I go ^^
Wont be able to help this morning though got a conference call from 10h30 onwards -_-
On September 04 2012 17:32 BobMcJohnson wrote: Ganzi vs Taeja from August 2011 Code A Ro4, should definitely be in the Weird games/series category. + Show Spoiler +
It was the series where Ganzi destroyed Taeja (They were both Slayers at the time) with three wierd proxies in a row, completely mindfucking Taeja.
hahaha oh yeah forgot about that one.
Definite watch for laughs. Despite being a bo5 tvt it's short too, so it won't slow you down much >.>
Thebest vs Min Third game on SuperTournament. Poor min. and his next match against terran was against FXO_Gumiho. Both matches have same interesting actions.
Which was the game where Nestea rushed to lair so he could creep spread to the Terrans expo, then threw spines up at it to take it? I think it was NesTea anyway...

GSL was so much more fun back when ridiculous stuff like this happened more often.
Wait I may be wrong, but isn't MMA vs Gumiho already free? I am quite sure since I only have GOM account, no ticket/premium, and I have been watching that game many times...

oh yah it's the first game of the set, so it's already free :O

GSTL finals MVP vs slayers mma vs drg, it was the deciding game in the finals, pitting the two absolute gstl end bosses vs eachother, i rember it as one of the most epic games in gsl history, with a beautifull comeback by mma
I'm very impressed with the choices here. Like Seed vs Symbol in the RO8. Not one most people talk about but I love talking about this series. I've watched it a ton because it shows what really really smart PvZ is like. This is the best zerg vs protoss VS. the best Protoss vs Zerg so it was amazing!
I also want to nominate MC vs Squirtle Game 2 in the GSL Code S Season 3 RO16. There is no way MC should have won that but with incredible MC control he somehow pulled it off against Squirtle, one of the best, if not the best, PvP player at the time. It was incredible!
under the Funny/Weird/Historically meaningful/misc we can add TheBestfOu vs MKP Super Tournament Round of 8
It's the reason why everyone has since made fun of his name TheBest because he totally fails hard in game 1 and MKP has this reaction where he's like, "WTF LOL". In the next match MKP just repeats TheBest's build but does it right and destroys him.
This isn't real. I've always been longing to watch those VODs and I finally bought my first GSL season ticket and this gets announced the _second_ I've paid for it.
Well whatever, at least I can watch 'em for the whole season.

True but I assume most people want to see games/series' from 2011 because that's when we had our best ones.
DongRaeGu vs Ryung - Code S Season 3, Ro16 - VOD -- The best of post-patch TvZ.
isnt anything special, ryung is playing the map, DRG is giving away a victory, nothing to see, if one enjoys zvz watch any of nesteas older games, the micro is INSAAAANE
I remember watching so many of these games when they came out. I can't wait to go back and look over them again though! Thanks for taking the time to put all of this together! :D
I think the MMA Gumiho game is BY FAR the best game so far. It has the crowd, the skill, the positional war, mech vs biomech. It's just so intense and entertaining!

This has the added bonus of being from the day when Artosis got his teeth pulled and was high on painkillers the whole time. Hilarity ensues.
Haha i had forgotten about the painkillers part :D
Also, holy shit people sucked balls at the game back then. San floating 1k for all of game 1 and giong up to like 100 probes wtf. I had forgotten that part too.
hey don't forget about qxc and fenix's allkills in last year's GSTLs (qxc all-kill IM, and Fenix all-kill OGS) the only times foreigners have gotten all-kills in GSTL!!!

Yes! i'd like to specifically recommend Leenock vs Dream, 2011 GSL July Code A, to see qxc and Wolf (PirateWolf!) and the origin of the Leenoctopus nickname.
If you're looking for entire GSL tournament VODs or player-specific VODs, check out sc2links.com -- we've got every GSL tournament indexed spoiler-free in a neatly bundled package, so you can relive any and all action
Sweet! Hopefully they've planned better for all the traffic this time around. I didn't get to watch a single game last year due to how swamped they were =(

If there is one GSL game that must be watched it's Leenock vs Tassadar GSL July code A RO4 on Dual sight HOLY CRAP that game is a good nail biter if you ever saw one.
Just watched parting vs jjakji, how is that the best pvt in the gsl? Honestly, it was pretty boring, any mkp vs parting game would be better, even the squirtle vs mvp finals was better.
I hope the service doesnt mess up like last time. I remember not being able to watch any of the vods for a day or so at least from when they were supposed to be free, but i cant wait to watch mma vs drg again and then some others that i missed

Anyway, I used these two free days of VOD access to re-watch every BitByBit game. 50 times over
I did not see it in the OP, but TLO vs. Hyperdub, Game 1 during Open Season 2 was still one of the most epic games to watch live. I hope people take advantage of this to check that out.

Sorry to revive this but I think since we're at the 3rd anniversary I thought maybe there would be some more classics that can be added.
Edit: I'm finally watching the group of death from wcs kr 1. Don't know how good they were yet to know if it should be added to the OP. Still worthy though just cause of the names.
