As emotionally invested as people are on this topic, TL rules still apply. That includes flaming and ad hominem attacks.

One day, in the far future, SC2 organisations, like organisations in every other industry in the world, will learn how to channel negative publicity for their own good. Until that time, foolish actions by individuals will continue to attract totally disproportionate reactions from the herds of biploar and over-sensitive internet "white knights" (for lack of a better phrase? :< ).

If people think that slinging shit to sponsors of players or teams every time they misstep is "moving forward" in gaming or esports, then they're kidding themselves.

The dispute between Bluetea and Destiny is a totally private matter and should never have surfaced into the consciousness of the public domain (re; to the sponsors) and people should have the maturity to understand and respect the situation when they see it. This blatant bandwagoning that we see every time a player or team is thought to have "crossed a line" reflects VERY poorly on the community - it serves only to introduce extra volatility into an industry that is already quite volatile.

If things like this weren't scrutinized by the community I'd lose faith in the community. Maybe he should stop doing incredibly disgusting things?

So Destiny does something dumb and gets consequences for it again and he's an asshole about it. Death and taxes and Destiny being dumb and angry about it, some things are guaranteed to happen in life.

I just learned about this today and have to be honest.

If you send naked pictures to a guy, they might end up showing them to another friend. That is the reality of the situation (despite what is 'right') and the risk you take. He showed them to two close friends, not an entire chat room. Classy? No. But still not 'distributing' them to the internet. If he wanted to, they'd be all over everywhere. It's not hard. Guys like boobs. And apparently she has a nice body.

Now she's actually distributed pictures to the entire internet of his penis, and hacked his accounts to do so. She's actually broken more laws than him.

Both people are immature. She needs to take responsibility for her action of sending the photo in the first place, and for the subsequent actions, which are more serious than Destiny's. Destiny has to not be an idiot and allow his private stuff to be hacked and realize as a semi-famous internet personality that his personal conversations will be subject to lots of scrutiny (not that it should, I believe people have a right to have private conversations).

Not saying Destiny's right, just that they're both wrong.

Well done, team ROOT. Good decision. This destiny guy has been parasitizing the scene ever since beta. Anyway eSports doesn't need such miserable drama.

Why is that? Destiny makes good money, and quite frankly the controversy is probably good for his hardcore fan base to rally around him. Its not like he is winning -- or has ever won -- anything major in SC2. And this is the age of the North American Zerg ascendancy, with Suppy and Scarllet coming relatively out of nowhere to quite successful tournament runs. If Destiny was going to have a big run of skill based results, it should be right around now. But unfortunately there is just something missing from his play that doesnt let him go that final inch.

By the way people who have played with him on his team describe him, he seems like a pretty nice and genial guy and a great sparring partner but no team he has ever been on would say he is their front line player, not even root. If Destiny had the same skill set he has but was just some quiet, shy kid who played SC2 and occasionally enter tournaments where he finished far away from the group stage would he have near the fame or the fortune or offers to join relatively established teams? Probably not.

It's not about Destiny. Sure, it sucks for Destiny, but shit like this seems to happen to him more often than not. Destiny had his best MLG run so far in the WR5 then had to forfeit as the news leaked.

What Cajunman is referring to is the fact that people instantly run to sponsors and get someone banned/kicked off teams and such as soon as something bad happens. The fact of the matter sponsors are getting much more bad news than good news, and that can crash any more growth in starcraft 2. It is already struggling for sponsors in Korea, we don't want it to happen in the west.
Ya, that is a rough situation but really the onus is on teams to police their players better. If people are serious about being professional gamers in a fledgling industry then they have to be better than perfect. Obviously that is an exacting standard but quite frankly it has to be one if people are really serious about turning this into something more than a hobby. And this was a relatively big deal -- if you are the sponsor and your team's biggest achievement at MLG is some guys private parts being shown on the internet? Unless you are viagra, you'd be pretty mad.

The problem is that people go to the sponsors FIRST. There's no emailing the management to see what they do about it.

It's like you got treated bad by someone at a store, but instead of asking to see the store manager, you go straight to the nationwide management and try to get everybody working at every store under that name to get a paycut.

Emailing ROOT's sponsors because of Destiny hurts every single person on ROOT, players and management, because people won't want to sponsor ROOT anymore. You're attacking the entire team instead of the one guy. Hell, Destiny's money comes from streaming. You probably hurt everyone on ROOT EXCEPT Destiny. Good job.

Go to the fucking team management before you go to the sponsors. Follow the chain of command. If management don't do anything, THEN go to the sponsors, because then you DO have a problem with more than one guy on the team.

And why in the fuck is the girl that locked a guy out of his own email and went through all his personal files being ignored? How the hell is massive invasion of personal privacy ok?

I've seen this several places now in this thread. And I still don't understand it.

E-mailing sponsors absolutely does helps e-sports. How? Because it helps remove disruptive elements. It helps show that the e-sports community polices its own. It helps show that the e-sports community does not tolerate this crap.

If you believe Destiny's behavior is inappropriate, then e-mailing his sponsors is the right move. Why? Because it helps ensure that the problem will be dealt with. Sponsors are neutral parties; they only want money, not drama. Sponsors are the ones who have more power and don't care about the individuals involved.

Of managers and sponsors, managers are more likely to gloss over the problem person. They're less likely to take sharp, corrective action. Or, to put it another way, if they'd e-mailed the managers, do you think Destiny would be getting thrown out of ROOT?

Probably not. And if you think his behavior was inappropriate and that he deserved his ousting, then contacting the sponsors was absolutely the right call. It brought the pressure necessary to ensure that the problem was dealt with. And it helps ensure that Destiny is less likely to be picked up by another team.

See above. YOU ARE IGNORING THE CORRECT CHAIN OF COMMAND. Go the the Management, who have the power to discriminate and punish appropriately.

Going to the sponsors does 2 things. It makes the sponsors put pressure on the management, and it makes the sponsors want to gtfo of the SC2 scene. You can do one of those yourself, and doing the second is just fucking stupid.

IF you do that, and IF the management take no action, THEN you go messaging sponsors. You don't fucking assume that the management will take no action, and message the sponsors. Because the message you send those sponsors is that the management ALREADY TOOK NO ACTION OVER IT. You are skipping a step that everybody involved will assume happened, and you give the wrong impression to sponsors.

Don't fucking assume that the management are incompetent and are going to back the players for anything. Pressure management first, THEN message sponsors if nothing is done. Don't damage an entire team because of one guy on it.

Fuck. That. You really think people should follow a chain a command on this guy, the millionth time he has done something like this?

Frankly if he gets picked up by another team I think his sponsors should be immediately email and linked to all the bullshit the second he gets signed. This is a situation of the culture around professional gaming needing to change.

It's the first time he did it at ROOT, so YES. Hitting ROOT's sponsors with a ton of negative feedback doesn't even hurt someone like Destiny, he gets his money from streaming. You hurt the management and the rest of the team. He's not done anything like this since joining ROOT, so give them a fucking chance to do it themselves.

If he joins another team, do the same. Email the TEAM, and explain how you feel about it, and if they don't take any action, THEN email the sponsors.

You're hurting the scene and the rest of a team to get him kicked off that team. Give the management a chance to deal with it before you jump on the sponsors.

Your reaction was about as inappropriate as hers. Way too fucking far, hitting way too much.

You're crazy dude. If the team is picking him up they obviously know about him and simply don't care. Root didn't give a shit about anything that guy did until they had sponsor pressure. In fact they said in their statement it was specifically the sponsor pressure that forced their hand.

In a business based on views a couple emails/posts are pretty easily ignored. And the proof is right in front of you.

People in the gaming industry need to wake up.

Then make it clear how you will act. SAY something about it.

Cos you know what the most fucking hilarious part is?

No team in the history of SC2 has had the choice to get rid of Destiny. Every time there was an incident, people jumped straight to sponsors who forced the team to act. Nobody has ever had the choice.

I'm not saying you should keep doing it every single time, but do it ONCE. Give the team ONE chance. If you're too fucking arrogant to think that a team can make a mistake, then you're going to only cause problems for everybody involved.

Yes, Destiny is a really fucking bad idea to sign right now. But if a team did sign him, and they suddenly get 2k emails saying that if they continue to support and sponsor Destiny they'd be emaiing the sponsors to complain about his past behaviour, and making it clear that they won't support any team with him on, they'd very quickly change their minds.

If a team sign destiny, your position is that you should immediately try to get everybody on that team to lose money, whether they were involved in the decision or not. Every single player, who won't have been consulted on the matter, EVERYONE. Without giving them a chance to do anything about it themselves, you're immediately and instantly going to try and cut their funding.

You're a real nice guy. I'm so glad we have people like you in this community. You're going to fucking kill it stone dead.

And that's why you should just never send nude/dick pictures over the internet in any way.

To be honest, I personally sympathize more with Destiny because he was the lesser of two evils in my opinion.

The conversation was bad, yes, but she got it by reading through his personal email/skype and randomly coming across it from what I understand. She complained that Destiny "betrayed her trust" but really she was reading through his personal messages before she even knew about the "betrayal".

But what ROOT did was correct, it had to be done. Just a shame.

this situation is roughly this: any one of you non-RL-losers sitting at a caffe with two friends, talking and having fun, and then you show a naked picture of a girl that has the hots for you and gave the picture willingly. so you joke some more, finish your latte and move on with your life. only thing is, the girl has a bug on you, hears the whole thing, and decides she can ruin your life because she didn't like what you said.

grow up, lady. this is some serious stalker bullshit going on. so what he commented on your pictures with friends? don't give naked pictures to a married man in the first place, then you have no problem. hacking someone's skype and email for vengence is doing for you what exactly? if he had posted your pictures on reddit, go ahead, post his dick for the whole internet to see. otherwise, get a clue about life...

such unnecesarry drama

Agreed.
I dislike Destiny for his personality, the majority of his views and a lot of other stuff.

But I share a lot of stuff with my close friends which could get me/them in trouble if it's leaked (talking about female friends/acquaintances would be the least of those problems).
That woman from Destiny is crazy - reassures my opinion about women on the internet. Drama whores.
