Sounds like a bullshit excuse tbh
Why do they not let the player choose which event they want to participate in

Because they're paying the players to train and remain in peak condition, not to burn practice time making money on the side.
My strategy is to fork people.

I'm just gonna say this: people hoping for KeSPA to "die off" or whatever are clueless - KeSPA has done absolutely incredible things for eSports in Korea and StarCraft II can reach significantly more fans with their resources and help, and the players will make more money. It's extremely petty and shortsighted to wish for something so devestating to the scene.

That said, this decision feels really poor and shortsighted on their part. They should be letting the players decide. And I don't think Blizzard is going to allow this, since they're about to make some kind of statement apparently.

They might have done good for BW Esports in Korea, but they dont want to play along with getting Sc2 as the premier Esports now. For that reason i'd much rather see KeSPA burn than GOM

See... you guys didn't read the article correctly. With a 8 day work week, OF COURSE KeSPA players will be too tired to play again on the 9th day, sheeh.

Implement trade lock, bar players from the GSL, and pull out of MLG Raleigh. Sigh kespa.

I really hope GOM pulls through and stays strong. Blizzard should not sit by and let this happen.

Kespa official: "Sorry, but since you already practise for Proleague, OSL and WCS, we cannot account for you trying out at the GSL qualifiers."
Kespa player: "But I am not participating in neither OSL or WCS, and my team hasn't fielded me in Proleagueonce!!!"

uh...why does anyone have to burn at all? Whoever provides the better product is going to prosper. Ideally GSL and KeSPA would exist side-by-side, and whatever league ended up being better would get the most viewers. It's dumb to want anyone to "die off" because you disagree with a decision they made.

They didn't pull out of MLG...they literally couldn't go because of Proleague. Every match this week matters, so they need their entire lineup. Proleague is the most important thing in Korea.

It's interesting how (judging from roro's interview) that all the kespa players don't get why they aren't allowed to play in the code A qualifiers. So obviously this does not bother them.

Air Force ACE and KT Rolster are out of the running to reach playoffs, but the outcome of ACE vs SKT T1 and Stars vs KT will be extremely important in determining who takes the spots. They're obligated to play the best match they can.

when a team like KT is out, sending flash to MLG would not be that out of line to ask for?

edit: also i really hate that kespa players get seeds to mlg, they have not deserved that right at all.. they should qualify with the rest

Yep, i fear that there would be a bigger chance of the KKK and Black Panthers living in harmony than KeSPA and GOM. Atleast with Kespas current view on things

It would be, because sending Flash is tantamount to throwing the match vs Stars, which is unnacceptable.

EDIT: And giving seeds to GSL players was fine even though they didn't "earn" them?

That's still no good reason. There are plenty of players who just play PL, if at all. Roro wanted to play GSL as well, despite being one of the better players. I feel like Gom would've needed to give at least half the Code S spots to Kespa players for this deal to have worked, because that's how Kespa rolls. Makes me almost want to see their players fail, but i can't because i know they're talented and i WANT to see them being good.

What a load of crap. There aren't many KeSPA pros left in WCS or WCG. There's only 8 in the OSL and Proleague is soon only going to be 4 teams. Not to mention the many players that won't even be fielded in Proleague. So they're justifying the "no time for GSL~~" excuse to a bunch of MLG online matches? What, are all ~100 KeSPA pros going to be playing back to back at the same time there too?

The whole thing disgusts me, but not more than the fact that the players still have absolutely no say in what they themselves show strong desires to do. I really wish they'd buck up and form a players union already and I don't think any fan of these players would ever argue otherwise. They deserve to at least have a voice that could impact the choices made for them.

Would they be able to play in GOM without the MLG stuff? I dont think online matches should ever get priority over GSL.

They probably want to test how well these online matches draw viewership. If it works, they might continue that. If not, the sponsers nor MLG might not be too happy.

While this would be perfectly sound logic, the fact that the players have been constantly mentioning in interviews how much they're looking forward to the GSL qualifiers, combined with the fact that RorO (as an example) wasn't even aware why KeSPA was stopping them, seems to indicate that this so called 'schedule overload' and 'burnout' is entirely fictious, and that KeSPA didn't run it by the players at all; they are just making the assumptions and decisions in their place.

And that doesn't bother you? It doesn't strike you as shady?
