ROOT Gaming re-forms - Page 50

This is not a thread to argue about destiny, or to argue about racism, witch hunts or anything other than the fact that root is getting back together. You do so at your own peril.

The reason this team is special/was remade at all was because of the close friendships of the team. They don't want to add random players. Like, seriously, why would they add the players from Eclypsia? Desrow, Slog, Artist, and Scarlett fit with this team at all? No. Not in the slightest. Oh not much, just for financial stability and the future of the team. ROOT has some fan favorites- Destiny, KiWiKaKi, SLush, but they don't have many tourney winners (yet). There's no reason ROOT can't pick up some other big names, and the Eclypsia players are both well-liked by fans and probably garner large amounts of viewership, thus, streaming income. The fact is, professional eSports is not like running a World of Warcraft guild. You can't just invite friends and expect to play full-time and survive. You NEED a successful business portion to pay player salaries, send players to tournaments, etc. The majority of revenue for this team will be sponsors and streams, and you GET sponsors through larger stream viewership. You need to staff players that people want to watch. Unless "keeping it special and close" garners enough special attention to attract revenue, it isn't going to work out. The most powerful and successful teams right now understand this concept, and the ones who don't eventually collapse. From the interview, it appears that this is exactly what happened the first time. By reaching out both to a business major (undergrad only provides so much, however- trust me) and players from well-established teams, catZ has demonstrated that they are trying to "learn the ropes" of a successful and established team, and become one themselves. ROOT has my full support.

I know the mods don't want the thread to descend into a discussion about racism in e-sports but just to answer the question ColA- asked but with greater context. Basically, there was a thread on TeamLiquid about a man complaining that Destiny called him a "gook" (a derogatory term for a Korean) in rage at a loss. The drama that unfolded led to some arguing about whether such terms are alright to use in a non-racially discriminatory context with the general precedent being "it's not," Amidst the arguing, Destiny was banned from TL (albeit a temporary 30 day ban) due partially to how he expressed his thoughts on the matter but also due to 4channisms, and a few individuals thought it'd be a good idea to spam Quantic Gaming's sponsors. This led to Destiny and Quantic having a discussion and laying the options out in the open. In the end, Destiny decided it'd be easier on both parties (Quantic wouldn't have their image damaged so badly and Destiny would stll retain his popular stream viewership that has sustained him regardless) if he left Quantic Gaming. And then a Gigabyte event announced Destiny as a commentator. A few individuals (also from TeamLiquid and presumably /r/starcraft on Reddit too) decided to message Gigabyte urging them not to invite Destiny to their event due to the recent drama. In the end, he was uninvited leading to a pretty sizeable backlash on Gigabyte. That, in a nutshell is what the drama is about. As for how and if this would affect ROOT Gaming's future operations because they welcomed an old teammate back to their team? I don't know, and that's not a topic really worth debating. "Let's just fucking enjoy some StarCraft instead of demonising a player's past and renounced actions" is my motto here. To be frank, witch hunts have been killing ESPORTS for fucking ages now and it's about time we frowned upon them as a greater community.

WardenSC really couldn't have known what he was doing when he made the thread so I don't blame him, but these mob mentality witch hunts are out of control. The amount of anti-Destiny posts even in this thread make me sad about the state of Teamliquid.net. Mods should be protecting players.

None of the Eclypsia members have streams that rival the top ROOT streamers in the least. There is no reason to pick any of them up (possible exception of Scarlett). I'm glad ROOT has your full support.

You might be right about the rest (although I believe Desrow might be close to a breakout performance), but why couldn't ROOT start sending players to Korea? With Destiny, KiWi, and Scarlett, they could probably nab some nice sponsors. *Edit* Sorry for being aggressive the first time.

Same reason they aren't looking to send any players to the moon. It doesn't make any sense for them.

I'll admit, I'd love to see ROOTScarlett, but I honestly think she'll keep her efforts maintained on Korea considering a Korean team was apparently interested in signing her. At least unlike Eclypsia, ROOT can't be stupid enough to do a meme contest, or make a load of failed promises, can they?

It's not as easy as you may think; ROOT ended because of money problems, there is no way they can go to korea, specially not without a partnership with a korean team. To get sponsors you have to show results, and this is basically a fresh (re) start... you can't expect them to start at the top, they have to slowly get there. Besides you can't add players to your rooster if you can't pay them.

The community doesn't have one stance and then sticks with it. That's where you're completely misguided. I'm a member of the TL/SCReddit communties. Did I spam Evil Geniuses' sponsors over Orb's racist outburst after it happened ages before he was picked up as a caster for MCSL? No Did I spam Quantic's sponsors over the Destiny outburst? No. Did I complain to Playhem about Katu when he flagged up Dragon's stream cheating history? No. Did I want Orb, Katu and Destiny released from their respective organisations? Not really. I think a lot of people didn't either. Blaming the community as a whole for this isn't the right thing to do especially since what had occured happened because of the actions (although undermoderated actions) of a few.

Hats off to Catz for having the balls and guts to re-form root and bring Root into the esports scene once again, this time with even bigger and better players and more financial backing. Screw the destiny haters they are just stains on the esports community and we should disregard people like that instead of bringing them into the spotlight all the time. Go Root! We Love you.
