Today we have mixed news regarding our StarCraft 2 division. We're sad to announce that we are parting ways with Paulo "CatZ" Vizcarra and Andrew "drewbie" Moysey. The two ex-ROOT players have been a part of compLexity for a year and will be greatly missed. We encourage our fans to keep watching their respective streams and to support them in their future endeavors.
However, we are pleased to announce that Chad "Minigun" Jones and Brendon "Ryze" Walker have extended their contracts for another year. We're excited they will remain a part of the squad and will continue to represent compLexity fans.
"We're sad to see Paulo and Drew go but we wish them the very best in the future," said Jason Bass, COO of compLexity Gaming. "Not only are they good players, they are great people who we will miss having around. Unfortunately at this time we have divergent plans for the future. We wish them nothing but the best and thank them for their time in our gaming family."
"My year with compLexity was a really good year. I got to meet a lot of new people and make a lot of new friends who are a part of the coL family," said Paulo "CatZ" Vizcarra. "The opportunity to join and play under the name of such a big and prestigious team, was for both drewbie and myself an experience that we won't forget and that we are very thankful for. Unfortunately at this point in time, we part ways with new plans and different goals in mind for the near future. Thank you for everything: Jason Lake, Jason Bass and every member of the compLexity family. And one last time, thank you SoundBlaster, Qpad, PNY and Origin! haha"
As always, thanks very much for your support. We have some exciting SC2 related news coming this week so keep it locked to compLexityGaming.com!
Catz my favorite south american player (besides major) and drewbie my favorite tall white guy player is leaving... this blows. GL to them in the future
hope they do well. Drewbie shined for a bit when he got into the Winter Arena. Maybe they got to play for a year and decided that they wanted to stick with management?
Best of luck to Complexity, thanks for the great year housing CatZ and drewbie! Excited to find out what new adventures awaits for CatZ and drewbie <33
Although I didn't expect them to leave, it's not really a huge shock. Kinda sucks, compLexity takes ROOT but the two leaders of ROOT are gone now. Feels like the ROOT spirit really isn't there anymore.
Hey, how about you guys throw a large sum of cash oGs's way? Though I assume that Drewbie/CatZ's contract wasn't renewed because they plan on picking others up.
Root being reformed would be awesome, if they reform I hope they are able to get sponsors so their players aren't snapped up as soon as they show results.
Not too surprised that this happened since both Catz and Drewbie haven't done much lately and I haven't really heard too much from them. Still wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide to do.
Dropping Drewbie was expected but getting rid of Catz didn't make sense to me. Catz and J Lake are the most recognizable figures in their organization.
Can anyone tell a little more about Catz and drewbie moving to Peru? Why did they do that and do they plan on staying fulltime SC2 players? Is drewbie even a fulltime player rightnow? (can't imagine he makes enough money to support himself tbh) Catz on the other hand probably makes enough money with just streaming.

Sad to see Catz and drewbie leaving complexity but i''m happy to see Minigun will be remaining on the roaster! I'd love to see Root get restarted soon!
lol no. InControl and Machine are just improved versions of CatZ, slightly better play IMO and better public figures. InControl never defaulted 3 NASL matches in a row.

Noone is a better public figure than CatZ, most entertaining streams by FAR

Yea I didn't really think it will happen. I don't think EG will be making any roster moves unless it is a Korean

Yeah... I was a massive ROOT fan back in the day and I didn't instantly take a liking to Complexity when they acquired the team. However, over time Complexity has grown to be my favorite team in eSports and I feel like it's going to stay that way even if ROOT reforms(not that I won't root for ROOT if it happens).
I'm really glad Chad chose to extend his contract, I like rooting for him as a part of Complexity.
I've never really seen anything particularly impressive from or been particularly interested in Ryze, RSVP and Ryan though(who I've even seen play competitively), so no major response on that front. Good for him I suppose, Complexity seems to be showing a lot of patience with some of their older players.
When I'm involved in the viewing of a sport like baseball, football or hokey, I see players leaving treams, being exchanged between team and such. We usually can figure out why. Many times it's because of talent or money. A team might want to spend less money, so they remove one of their team mates, or trade for someone who will cost less. Also, a team may be seeking a new line of talent. Such as the Yankees, maybe they should be looking for a new pitching staff (please do not comment on this. It's only a comparison and not meant for discussion)? A baseball team may look for new talent in other teams, see someone with the talent, or even "potential talent", and make an offer to his team.
When I see and esports player leave a team, I don't understand why. When Destiny left Quantic, he spoke of why briefly on his stream. It seemed like some very spiteful reasons from what I remember. When desRow and Scarlett left Eclypsia, one reason they left was because they didn't trust the team to send them to Korea after "shady thing" Eclypsia was doing. Now these players are without a team, and with very little leverage in their ability go to Korea. When people leave their employers without having spoken to another employer, you really do screw yourself. In the vlog desRow made about him and the other players leaving Eclypsia there was no mention of future plans. Unless there is some sort of plan to quickly join another team, this could really hurt them. It's hard enough to make it in the world, let alone the world of esports.
I will admit that I don't know the details of this trade of players. Did Catz have the option to stay on the team? "Unfortunately at this point in time, we part ways with new plans and different goals in mind for the near future." This statement Catz makes says to me either, that he had the option to stay and refused, or he just being polite and professional. Is this Catz being fired, or is he leaving of his own volition?
It only makes sense though. These two aren't posting any results, and complexity has a huge roster. Although, both are very good, and hope they geto n ateam soon.
I just hope we don't see koreans replacing them not that I have anything against koreans, but it's nice to see a foreigner get picked up by a bigger team once in awhile.

MAKE IT HAPPEN PAULO <3
This, a thousand times. I would love to see them reform what used to be one of my very favorite teams, and build it with new talent. CatZ and Destiny are certain to attract sponsors (to a decent extent) and they can begin stepping into a team leader/mentor role while they acquire and build new talent. This would be amazing.

You post in a funny but cool way. Kudos. We saw CatZ and drewbie make the move to Peru - for what reason is beyond my knowledge, maybe someone else can shed some light on this - a few weeks ago, which seemed to happen on their own behalf. This seems to be directly connected to them leaving coL so we can assume that they have different plans than don't blend well with coL's. Expect to see something soon (ROOT plz!).
Step 1: CatZ and Drewbie form ROOT. Step 2: ROOT begins recruiting members and continues to grow. Step 3: Complexity absorbs ROOT. Step 4: CatZ and Drewbie leave Complexity while other former ROOT members stay.
ROOT was really awesome back in the day. Just a bunch of dudes living the life, pursuing their dreams and forging their own way with their own team. They were always underdogs, but they were good enough to win and it was great when they did.
But I can't see a place for ROOT in the current scene. If their core members were to re-form the team, I don't think they could come close to competing. The scene is so much bigger, and powerful international teams are more willing to send players far and wide to compete in live events.

Your statement in that thread was super premature and if you actually look at Catz and Drewbie's circumstances right now it's clear that Complexity isn't just trying to drop their foreign line-up. Also, you're ignoring that they re-signed two of their foreign players.

Yes... You mentioned re-signing fan favorites. Ryze isn't a fan favorite and even then Complexity still has a pretty large number of foreigners still on the team, some of which I probably wouldn't mind them dropping.
This was a bit surprising (to me, at least). Best of luck to CatZ and drewbie on finding a new team. Perhaps they will re-make ROOT with Destiny and SLush, like a few other people suggested.
I'm not super familiar with Drewbie as his stream is pretty transient, I believe.
Catz, though, is awesome. You're a great entertainer and a sound player. It may be true that you haven't had Stephano's success, but you deliver to your fans and that is exactly why they like you - every time I see you expand to your enemy's main, I flip.
Good luck to both of you; It seem the terms of the release were amicable so here's to working together on good stuff in the future.
I don't see why coL would let go of CatZ and Drewbie when they are clearly better, and more well known than most of their North American players like Ryan, rsvp, Goswser etc, so I think that they actually want to leave themselves, so a Root reform might actually happen.

those lesser players probably do not get paid or very little. People like catz though need to be paid since they are playing full time. I think ryan is a teacher now or something (don't quote me on this) so he doesn't play much anymore. He is more on the team for just fun I would guess right now maybe he will play more in the future, but the main point is that the players that left probably wanted more money that col could offer ( or wanted to reform root )

I don't think they are better than any of the players you just listed...
On May 16 2012 09:43 FuzzyJAM wrote: Basically "We don't want to renew contracts where we have pay for someone to travel from Peru", I guess.
Best of luck to everyone and all that.
Personally I'm hoping it is more along the lines of some big sponsor saying, "There is still an extreme amount of very cheap brand value in the ROOT tag, second only to TL and maybe EG. With Catz, Drewbie and Kiwi we can restore the brand to its former glory." If done right a ROOT revival could give some sponsor a fairly cheap, but very popular team.
In any case good luck to both parties, hope it works out.
People need to stop saying that CatZ, drewbie leaving has to do with them being "bad" or lacking results.. If that were the case then Minigun would have been gone as well because he has had even lesser results then CatZ.
Its likely because they wanted to pursue other things, eg: CatZ maybe wanting to reform ROOT. Or them wanting a bit more than coL is wishing to dish out.
I can hardly see CatZ refusing to accept a lower offer from coL and leaving the team as result without a back-up plan in mind.. So I'm sure he is either wanting to (once again) reform ROOT, or pursue a contract with another team that has a bit more salary space.
Its not surprising seeing coL want to free that up after picking up Ganzi and what not. I'm almost certain that the only reason Minigun stayed is because he was willing to bite on a lower offer.
On May 16 2012 06:46 Toppp wrote: No results to show for them really.
Last I checked Drewbie had some results as well as Catz though minor but his sream is a big one unlike Ryze who got an extension? You only spoke of who got cut not who got their contracts extended.

Not sure about Drewbie cause I havent heard or seen anything from him since he announced he was going to Korea but catz is definitely not better than Ryan or Goswer (havent seen anything from RSVP so cant speak there either =/). Plus I see Catz streaming Dota2 quite a bit so I'm assuming he's not as committed to Sc2 from a results perspective as a team like complexity would prefer him to be. Just an assumption tho
Odd, Drewbie I can understand but Catz? One of the most popular SC2 players out there, I'm pretty sure complexity would rather have kept them if possible, which leads me to believe they left of their own accord. Maybe return of ROOT gaming?

Drewbie and Catz will never be split. Dat Bromance is too strong
I would love to see them form another kind of ROOT, except instead of making it for tourney results, if they made it for the fun of the fans and did it in their free time as they streamed like each one streaming at a certain time of day and participating in tournaments and being fan friendly, that would be really awesome. Especially considering i haven't seen too many results from these guys recently.
Wow I hope they are able to latch on to a new team soon! Perhaps a South American based one? And yes, the former members of ROOT gaming should resurrect ROOT and start anew. Both players realized that they need prioritize training over flying around the world. Good luck to the both of them in the near future.
On May 16 2012 08:25 GenesisX wrote: I suspect more Korean drafts later on. Seems like coL is just bolstering the roster by cutting weaker players.
Not necessarily weaker players but more expensive ones. Flying them from Peru can't be that cheap. I agree that those two haven't really posted decent results in the large offline tournaments in quite some time. Probably focusing more on practicing that flying around the world atm.
On May 16 2012 07:22 Mario1209 wrote: oh damn. 5 members of the original ROOT are teamless o.o
Yeah its disappointing Col hasn't created a team house yet. Both in Korea and in North America. Having your teammates scattered throughout the land isn't always a great thing.

Wow first they part ways with MVP now freeing up some roster space. I wonder what the future holds with Complexity?
The future holds them continuing to do what they're doing? Running Complexity academy, looking for potential talent, picking up good players where they can get a good deal, dropping players that aren't providing a good return on investment.
I don't think it's something that needs a whole lot of reading into. The MVP partnership ending was the result of a sponsorship conflict, the two teams still seem pretty amiable with MVP going as far as to allow Complexity players to continue to live and train with them.
lol no. InControl and Machine are just improved versions of CatZ, slightly better play IMO and better public figures. InControl never defaulted 3 NASL matches in a row.
idk I don't think Col ever gave CatZ or anyone on their current roster the chance to become THAT public figure the way EG has done with many of their players. Meaning doing huge advertisments and encouraging them to promote themselves in ways other than streaming.

Its likely his contract just isn't up yet and they'll cross the bridge of him staying/rejoining ROOT when the time comes
