While BW never really was big in the western world, look at the SC2 tournaments we have today. SC2 did what BW never could, and the expansion will get even more guys into the game.

I am pretty sure it means that it goes up to a mineral patch and mines from it, when it is mining from it no worker can mine from it, You can do it on enemy mineral patches but putting a gas expensive unit in your opponents base is not a good idea. It converts the minerals it mines into energy.

Where are the new T positional units? 2 years and all they could come up with is aerial mines?
How about figuring out how to adding the ability to create position in TvP, and revamping it for TvZ in light of the new Z positional units.

COD.MW is by far the most popular FPS though is far from being the best ever. Popularity is not the same thing as quality.
Don't think SC2 is bad though, just has some design problems, most likely made on purpose.

Man I been wanting to switch Z, but I stayed P because of the hope of replicant. If they cut it, I think its time to switch. sigh...
There goes my sweet zealot archon medivac pushes in pvt.

Protoss looks very underwhelming. I like the dark swarm idea...still hate the abduct since it just looks silly to pull a colossus.

why would Terran need even more positional units. That's what they already have the most of, all they have to do is balance it in a way that those work in the one matchup, they don't work yet (= TvP).

if T had mines/shredder , chargelots could be stopped before getting to the tank line (for example).
This kind of unit is more needed in order to make it a better spectator sport more than is needed to balance the game IMO.
hope they adress the lack of depth Z has too.

Im a protoss and i like the fact that the nexus can have more abilities like recall and such, the only thing I think is wrong with this is it basically says bad mechanics ( not using your crono well or at all) turns into a great ability which just doesn’t seem right. Seems like protoss is getting a reward for doing nothing.
|
this is actually super exciting news and most of the stupid stuff besides removing the carrier seems to have been changed
|
|
Hmm, as interesting as the nexus recall ability sounds, I don't think it should be added into the game as it gives Protoss too much of an advantage.
I mean, you can constantly harass and attack with your units without being afraid of losing them and if you are sloppy and caught out of position in the late game, you won't be punished....

Yes, what game designer doesn't put flaws into his game on purpose? I see how you came to that logical conclusion.

This seems to be shaping up well. There's really no need to overdo it when it comes to new units; even one unit per race would completely change the matchups and how the game is played. Most of the changes since Blizzcon seem quite nice.
|
Nexus recall sounds ridiculous - not sure why Protoss should be able to recall an army instantly - this will be abused....
It feels like Blizzard is searching for cool ideas for the sake of making an exapnsion...not making an expansion for the sake of implementing their cool ideas. Perhaps I am wrong there but after reading this press release it sure seems like they are grasping at anything that seems cool and don't have any grand plan behind it...Point in case: They say zerg is the most stable of their races and yet they are forcing out an expansion pack for it.
I am hopeful and optimistic at the core but I can't help but feeling like a lot of the ideas they have presented are contrived.
|
The biggest problem Blizzard do is to try and be "more wide open" in the wrong way. They seem to want to be able to remove micro in a way, but I'd rather see counter-micros (Broodwar-esc, like the muta-stacking, stormdodging, splitting marines / banelings etc.).

That would more be the purpose of the battle hellion. The shredder wouldn't work very well in that regard since it stop working near your own units.

Well, I assumed they got rid of that after reading this: "The tempest was a powerful splash anti-air capital ship at BlizzCon. With the addition of the range upgrade on phoenix in Wings of Liberty we no longer feel like a splash anti-air weapon is necessary on the protoss". But I guess I'm wrong.

This is funny, because it shows that Blizzard has no idea how to balance their games anymore.

Sounds cool. Removing things that don't work and adding things that change diversity is something that i would welcome very much.
