I'm personally happy about this, but I can see why BW watchers are not that hot for it.

But BW pro's in Sc2 is going to be suuuhweeeeeeet!

Maybe they'll implement sc2 in PL, but OSL will remain bw for a few last seasons

One side of me is saying, "good, people need to move on from brood war it's an old game. It's 2012, SC2 is the new game and it should be focused on." The other side of me is saying, "brood war and sc2 can coexist ain't no thang." lol.

I hope negotiations go well and SC2 gets it's proleague and bw teams join/transition over.

They have to eliminate BW so Flash can rip everyone in the SC2 scene a new one... ;-)

Now it is very important for all parties involved, Blizzard, Kespa, SC2 players, SCBW players, the general community if BW indeed comes to a end to try to make SC2 good enough to last just as long as BW on a competitive level.

I'm pretty sure this is what blizz want. Sc bw is a "dead" market, all copys are sold, the game is old, no expansions comming (don't get me wrong, i LOVE IT). Sc2 is a live market, expansions are on the way.

I was hoping it would stay brood war only for some more time, because sc2 doesnt really feel complete. Switching after a hots or legacy would've been better...but then I didnt really like the direction teh expos were going based on the preview at blizzcon, but hopefully things will change for the better.

It's about time. If esports is to grow, bw needs to die, which will allow more popular and marketable games to take its place. It's obviously sad to see it go, but it's great that esports will take this crucial step forward. Assuming this "unnamed Korean industry insider" knows what he's talking about, which I kind of doubt :p but we can hope, right?

A proleague type format is THE biggest thing that SC2 needs, structure is necessary for longevity and legitimacy. I'm tired of big tournaments every couple weekends where the players burn through like 30 games each. I want teamleague to be the focus. I want to stress the LEAGUE part of that, not some silly knockout tournament, and also, less winners league please, it get tedious faaaaaaast. I want to see a long buildup of results over the period of months, and THEN you get the playoffs - a little knockout tournament with the top finishers. Teams need to know that week in week out, regardless of result, they get their screen time in the teamleague.
All the random powerranks people do, there is suddenly a place where you can look and say: THESE are the best 5 players on each team, because those guys are the ones that the coach has the most faith in. There is always talk of Code B killers, with proleague you will now know whether they are actually killers because you will see them every week

While all good things come to an end, and BW has most definatly been a great thing and SC2 wouldn't exist if BW wasn't around, this is like moving from Horse drawn carriage to a Model T. Yes both have flaws, but obviously in the long run, the Model T will prove more effective and produce other great stepping stones than the horse drawn carriage.

Hell, I played SC in 1999 when i was 6 years old, cannon carrier on BGH, and it put me into the eSports world, but the skys the limit with SC2. So many foreign tournaments, a definite Korean scene, and an NA/Euro Scene with "foreigners" being able to compete against Koreans. You could never see that in Brood War, as there was not enough interest among other areas.

While i will get flamed, bashed, hated upon and screamed at, I for one am glad to see the BW era coming to an end, and while I will be on the recieveing end when SC2 ends (i realize it will too) then I will be deeply saddened and what have you, but for the benefit others, it will be worth it.

I want to see BW top dogs switch over to SC2 just to see what would happen, but at the same time, I want them to keep playing BW.

I think the idea is that BW is struggling as it is. This will just be a good transition from a business model that may not work in a year anyway.

Except SC2 isn't anywhere close to being as popular as BW in Korea.

I just hope that good BW pros will not switch on SC2. It would be painful to see Flash or JD losing a coinflip vs guys like MKP or any foreigner.

BW fanboys will have to admit that as awesome as BW is, its heyday is over. Just look at BW tourney viewership on TL. It's abysmal.

Those are BW tourney restreams. Foreign community doesn't watch BW.

because the foreign scene is BW's main source of viewership right? God that is such a dumb statement
