DreamHack is the world's largest LAN event. They make a shit ton of money off of their events from all of the BYOC competitors that come. Competing for pro players in the LAN is also not free. Saying that DH doesn't make a big profit (and even saying they don't make any) is so incredibly false...
Dreamhack AB (AB is Swedens version of Ltd) just about broke even 2008, and in the red numbers 2009 and 2010. So saying they make "shit ton of money" is a bit of an overstatement.
The people that run DH are on full time salaries that are included in the statements.

"Oh my God, it's free, Dreamhack wants esports dead".
We are surrounded by zombies.
Can't wait for Bucharest.

I actually wish they'd charge for HD.
Sure, I love that I get it for free, mad props to them for that, but we as an audience can't expect esports as a business to stick around if we're going to have everything for free.

But don't speak in their behalf. If they think they don't need it don't cry like it's their doom.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to attend the Stockholm event as spectator?

"All quarter-finals, semi-finals and the Grand Finals will be played on a stage in-front of a huge audience with a full show production"
So yes, you will be able to attend but i don't know how it works for the ro16, ro32 and possibly ro64.

I would definitely not mind paying a couple bucks to view it in HD. Then again, free sick quality and free sick games! Amazing!

Dreamhack is getting better soooo much from year to year!
I hope they have the money/sponsors to back this up in the long run.

exactly if they can be profitable by offering this for free why should we stop them.

I got some questions for anyone that has more experience than me with DH Open events.
1. Will I miss anything with the day pass rather than tournament pass, as a SC2 spectator with an already booked hotel room? (maybe a party or something interesting that happens after 22:00).
2. Am I to expect the prices for the DH Open events to be the same as the ones posted on their website for Summer 2012?
3. Getting the best seats in the house - one may accomplish this by making an early booking or there is something more to take in consideration?
Thanks in advance.

Why would anyone want to pay to watch the streams? This is awesome, that they are free.

Thanks in advance. 1) Can't answer that 2) The DH Open events will probably be cheaper than DH Summer tickets. 3) Not really.
