Probably earned code S seed from GOM, or up&down/A.

How can people be saying that? What did Naniwa do recently to win a Code S seed? If anything, Violet and Huk earned Code S seeds because they are the best non-Code S performances of Jan/Feb 2012.

NaNiwa lost to the same people HuK lost in the MLG Arena, but defeated Leenock and NesTea.

Even so, I don't see GOM giving him another Code S seed unless he wins a major tournament running over a bunch of Code S Koreans in the process.

Because they usually base their invites on performance.

Oh wait!

Though I think if he gets an invite it will more likely be to code a or up and downs.

I think Naniwa has the right idea, taking this season off. Let him continue to practice in a great atmosphere, do a lot for his team in foreign events, and then power his way through qualifiers in another season. I might not like the guy but his play and determination are incredible, and feel that with a little more time he'll be able to get through into code A without much hassle.

I'd be very surprised if we didn't see each foreigner win a round or 2 in the qualifiers. Sinking feeling they're going to end up clumped together in the tournament though.
My name is Mike, and statistically, yours is not.

Well he did beat 2 Code S Koreans at Arena.

Huk beat 1 Code S Korean at Arena.

You said Huk should have earned a Code S seed.

So besides Naniwa's more unfortunate bracket placement at Arena, I'm not sure how your logic flows.

I was wondering to myself the other day who was going to try to qualify this time around, thanks for the list and for making an errant thought a reality.

I am really praying that Jinro will make it this time around.

Actually it seems the reason Naniwa is passing on the Code A qualifiers is because he's focusing everything on MLG Winter Championship and IPL4 since he's going to both. Maybe he thinks GSL would cause him to miss one of those and he thinks he has a better shot at winning money at those events.

Why wouldn't Idra go back, is he giving up on GSL due to lack of performance lately? Or is he committing to foreign tournaments for the cash flow?

Huk has the highest chance, he is just a really good toss. Nothing else much to add

I think Sase at his skill level is definitely able to get to Code A but I just don't know why he doesn't play well enough in GSL

Morrow has been doing really well recently as well, Maru is not an opponent that is considered weak at all. Being knocked out by Maru isn't as shameful as most would think it is. His play is improving really fast, I was surprised to see how good he is now.

Major has the talent to but I feel that he is over-rated a bit, especially when korean terrans are just so much stronger, the zerg and toss at GSL already are used to high level terran.

Same goes with Jinro. In general, I think foreign terrans just don't stand a very high chance going in GSLs. TvT in korea for example, is light year ahead of the other world.

I want to say Sase, but imo his style is too conservative to make it through the qualifiers (which says something about the qualifier format, but whatcha gonna do)-- if you play like he does you need to have hands down the best mechanics and decision making-- Sase is top notch, but I don't think he's a huge step above the competition in that regard.

I'm pretty sure he never intended to compete in the gsl. I remember him saying as much before he went there (qualifying that is, not the invite). It was mostly for good training enviroment he went there. His focus is still foreign events.

Major is a "korean terran". His whole game is korean based. In BW he practiced with koreans, copying everything, developed dem korean Terran mechanics and their work ethic. In sc2 he has better mechanics than most koreans already and after spending alot of months on the KR server with the amount of games he plays, I can promise you that he plays like any other korean Terran.

Statistically, one can excpet that at least one foreigner makes it through (there are not more than 312 people fighting for one of the 24 spots, right?).
