Originally the "Liquid Rising" documentary release date was set for the end of February. We were planning to film until MLG Providence and have it edited in December and January.
However, a lot of things happened very quickly: Hero's DreamHack win prompted us to send Michael Krukar to film at NASL2 in December. Additionally, Zenio joined Liquid and we also sent him to the oGs house in Korea to film him there. Both of these events delayed the post-production and editing.
Lastly, all of Liquid will be at IPL4 in Las Vegas (including Zenio). In the original footage we have very little of Zenio playing and of the entire team in one place, so we'll be doing some final follow up interviews and footage at IPL4 to finish the story and hopefully release the full documentary by the end of April.
We want to release a quality, finished product and by no means want to rush this out, so we hope everyone understands why it is delayed.
I will NEVER use teamliquid again I thought that the broken promises didn't exist outside of the diablo3 forums... I guess I was wrong... thank you teamliquid... for trying to improve something that's already awesome but yet making me wait...
Meh, documentaries are always delayed so I never read into expected release dates, just wait until they're out and bam, watch em. Tehres the EG one, Sons of Starcraft, Starnation, etc.
Don't you know?! What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! or not... Maybe we get to see some extra exciting footage from there anyways, was getting ready for this, sucks to wait, but I'm sure it will be worth it!
measure twice and cut once, then measure once and cut twice. Glad its getting done right instead of done faster. Sad it is delayed, but at least I know it will be an even better product in April.
Jk, Team Liquid has never let me down with the consistent quality in everything they do (TSL, merchandise, team decisions, etc.) I'm sure this will be no different. Take all the time you need, I know it'll be awesome :D
EDIT: Oh my gosh this is my 1337th post! I'm glad that it's one that I am praising TL in :3
I was wondering if this was going to get delayed to include Zenio.
I just want some of these Starcraft 2 documentaries to come out. There are like 4 big ones I know of that are all scheduled for mid to late 2012 and I can't wait to see them.
I really, really hope that they are made in such a way that people unfamiliar with the scene can be introduced to it. That would be better than if they are made in such a way that only super fans can follow what's going on.
That's fine, really looking forward to this stuff. Apart from the NatGeo documentary on XelloS and WCG 2005, I haven't really seen something like this about ESPORTS. Make it the best it can be
The main problem is, the more you and more you decide to film, the more dated and less interesting the footage you filmed at the end of 2011 becomes. Its a sad fact of the SC2 community that hot topics and fan favourites change so rapidly, but thats the nature of the game really. Hopefully everything remains coherent and isnt too dated (For instance, TLO playing Terran still or lots of interviews from November saying Hero is big and COULD make it in to Code S).

You mean they're gonna charge an insane amount for the film, split it into 3 parts and charge for each part and add some DRM that makes the file self-destruct after you view it one time?
But wait, it's gonna be 'pay what you want' and free and accessible to everyone. No, not Blizz way of thinking at all!
Kinda glad this is being postponed for the reasons stated, would've been something missing if it hadn't been done.
As long as it's a fantastic product (which of no doubt it will be) I don't mind waiting at all! More footage of more players is always a good thing. Normally I'd say I can't wait, but it's completely understandable for the delay, and I'm super excited and looking forward for when it is released!
Is there an eta for when we can expect it? Also, liquid is probably going to win more stuff between when you guys want to finish filming and doing post production/editing of said film, it's a long process and liquid is a good team. So while I have no problem with delaying it, especially to get some more Zenio in there, I wouldn't be all that surprised if someone else won something or another player was acquired.
That is the problem with doing a documentary on something that changes so fast. By problem I mean challenge, I cannot wait for it to be released!!!
it does not matter why the documentary is delayed YOU ARE FORGIVEN, as we know there are good reasons. but maybe in exchange for the delay teamliquid will immediately start working on part two which then would be released around christmas. pleeeease
(you know what, make it a trilogy and then in a couple of years start over w/ episode one etc;)))
You know, I understand the reason why it's going to be delayed, but is it still going to be "fresh"? Producing a high quality documentary is cool and all but there is a risk that the content is going to be outdated.

That would be true if the focus are the individual events. From what I seen in the preview they are focusing in the team experience during that time not the events itselves. So I think (I'm sure) that 'outdated' won't be an issue in the documentary.

Go Liquid!
Indeed, that's reassuring. What I don't want to see is players talking about patch 1.3.2 ZvT metagame and so on
I wish everyone took the 'Blizzard approach' like this. Good quality products when they're done, instead of a whatever product on a very fast timeline.
Like Blizzard said in the last anounce of a delay in Diablo 3, something along these lines: No one will remember if the game was delayed only if it was good.
Keen to see the finished product!!! Shame its delayed (I just wanna watch some BTS Liquid!) but what you're planning on adding is WELL worth the wait! Keen to see the oGs house and some vegas lights!!!
And when can we expect the first documentary patch! I think it's a gread idea to wait for IPL4 if only to show what I expect to be an amazing setting, stage, and crowd!
This is fine. I mean, you have your entire team going to Las Vegas for a gigantic $100,000 tournament. Why the hell wouldn't you want to capture that as the end of your film?

Maybe hot_bid is trolling us all, and it is actually not done... video editing takes times...
I wonder how this thing is going to be edited. Hopefully it will be designed to introduce new people to profesional Starcraft 2, promote Teamliquid, and follow the team in chronological order.
I have no problem with the delayed release date. If nothing else, a better quality documentary should definitely prove to be worth the wait. That being said, I cannot wait until it is finally released :D Gogo Team Liquid
Sounds like we'll get a better documentary out of this. Be careful though, there's always going to be more SC2 to put in a production like this. What if one of your players wins Dreamhack Stockholm, do you delay for that too?
This is great to hear. I think this will be an awesome documentary, I want to show it to all the people I know who don't care about Starcraft or Esports. I hope it gets thrown around all over the place. It can only help the advancement of this subculture
Sounds like Liquid took some good advice from Blizzard! Liquid FIGHTING!!!! I imagine its only a matter of time before Evil Geniuses create a documentary. Lets hope that you guys decide to make more DVDs that you did t-shirts.
One of the TL mods already answered this in another thread. They were planning on taking footage at IPL4 anyway, so TaeJa's addition will not delay the film in any meaningful way.
On April 04 2012 01:49 INFDexter wrote: How does Taeja effect the release date of this doc?
lol. Expect announcements soon like:
we don't have enough footage of taeja so in the next big tourney all of liquid players will be there where we can shoot additional footage of taeja.
This documentary will not be released before fall (maybe not even this year).
I would say this is never ending story. It would be best if they released it as some sort of episodes. 50% of the doc. will be so outdated.
EDIT:
Didn't see that:

but people need to stop wasting their time over this, its not going to come out, and if it does, some of the footage is going to be so old, its not going to be interesting. They said it would come out in Febuary...it didnt...they said it would come out in april...well april is here and nearly gone still no sign of the documentary. They also really aren't keeping anyone posted in whats going on with it either. This has really been the only post about it since its announcement.
the fact that team liquid are priding themselves on having a documentary come out soon and quickly is just bullshit lol. no offence team liquid I love you guys, but seriously sort this out.

The guy in charge of the TL documentary posted on Reddit recently that filming is done and they are editing into the final product, so it should be soon? I hope.

First off, nice first post. You clearly put some throught into it.
Second of all, film production takes time. A lot of time. There is a reason that movies take years to come out. I don't think they are going to provide updates like "still editing" and a fake release date just to keep people "updated". Making demands to "sort this out" just sounds entitled. I am not even sure if Liquid is going to charge to see the film.

tl;dr. you tell him to stop bitching, and open with being a bitch to him. Well done.
TL said they will have a product out, and don't. I think he has a right to be at least the little bit annoyed. On the other hand...why did they promise a deadline that to me seems really quite difficult to achieve? TL is sometimes pretty cool, but why not say they are working on a documentary and will have it done somewhere in spring/summer 2012; Instead of promising dates and having to back peddle each time something like this happens.

Yeah of course it won't come out. Why would they want to release a documentary they have spent months on? What a stupid idea, eh.
They said the "end of April", that doesn't mean the middle of April, it means the end. How about you have some patience instead of making stupid, borderline troll posts.
I wonder if it will be delayed any longer due to Hero`s code S run?
*Would also like to say that I kind of like the idea of the documentary spanning over a long period of time. In my mind at least it would display a lot of change on the team and the e-sports scene in general, that a documentary on a shorter period of time would not show.
One of the problems with SC2 documentaries is that there is no definitive "end of the season" that serves as a good stopping point. I guess New Years is about as close as you can get (which they were originally planning on doing, but then Zenio screwed everything up lol).
you guys are complaining about a documentary about one of, if not the, biggest teams outside of korea? what the fuck. this documentary could be delayed another 3 years and it would be still be more entertaining than pretty much anything
I really don't care how old some of the footage may be when the documentary finally is finished if it's able to show some kind of progression within the team

Yeah I completely agree. The documentarys main focus shouldn't be on gameplay.
I got the impression that this documentary was going to be more abiout the human side of the TeamLiquid side. I'd gladly wait for additional footage since they just signed Taeja. Oh, and how can we poo-poo something that's FREE. We act like we're entitled to the documentary or something...I'm just happy TL is amazing enough to even give this to us
When people complain about the documentary not being out they aren’t bitching about how "entitled" they are to the product, it’s more of a natural frustration at being told one something and then that something turns out to not be true. This can be especially frustrating if you are really excited about the what’s going to happen. Imagine if I told you that at the end of this month I would give you 5000$ for free, no strings attached. Then when the end of the month came I told you that rather give it to you now I would give it to you at the end of the next month but it would be 7000$. You might be like “o well what’s one more month for another 2000$”. Well imagine if I repeated this process endlessly. You would eventually be pretty pissed because I keep telling you something that isn’t true. I’m not saying that TL is making endless promises that they aren’t keeping but that they have made one statement that they decided to go back on (the original release date) and now it’s pretty close to the second and nothing on TL has been posted to tell us whether they plan on keeping this second release date or not.

I say this so much.
Why do people feel this incessant need to analogize shit. This isn't "like" being told you're giving $5000 and then you delaying it endlessly, adding $2000 more. It's them holding off on rushing it out and it not having enough content / being shit.
Jesus Christ, people jump to so many conclusions and hunt for drama wherever possible around here :|
Opinion probably doesn't matter, but if the documentary is going to be as in depth as it could be, the documentary would be far too long. If the documentary is just a compilation of thoughts and feelings and general atmosphere of the players before major tournaments, it might end up falling a bit flat..
I mean, i'm very curious as to the background of the 'korean mercenaries,' but not if it's going to hold up the documentary. I have always been much more curious about Haypro, Jinro, Tyler, and their current/future pursuits. They are much easier to root for as "hometown heroes."
there will be always things going on .. are you guys gonna release a documentary or ul delay till the end of the world so then you will say : ok no more events we got all we need we will make it now . last time you said " ipl4 end = we release " , now what ? you wait for code s champ ?

That's true actually. Both Hero and Taeja are in the RO8 so I think they should keep filming until the GSL is over. Imagine if one of them wins Code S... they can't miss that!

Having a liquid member winning Code S (or being in the finals) would be the biggest thing to happen to TL as a team, so I think delaying for Code S to finish makes a lot of sense. It's not some random tournament, it's the most competitive tournament in the world by far.

And then what happens if none of them even makes it to the finals? Should we then wait for the next MLG or next season of Code S? Come on..
Also, I highly doubt that it would higher the quality of the documentary, just because one of their players would make it to the finals in the greatest tournament there are. That would just be to show off the team, and not make an actual documentary about the team and competitive starcraft in general.
EDIT:
Of course I know that showing off the team is also one of the reasons to even making this documentary, but unless they really lack good content for the documentary, they should just get going and not wait for some of their players to do something big. They could just fill in at the end of the movie (example):
"Zenio later went on to win the GSL Season 2, and HerO once again rose to be the king of Dreamhack. The future for Team Liquid and eSport in general is looking very bright, even with major companies such as CBS and Red Bull entering the scene..."
I thought Hero and Taeja could meet before the final? If so that could be quite dramatic to capture on camera and add a lot of emotion to the documentry.

Then you release it after GSL? Talk about what went wrong, how HerO/Taeja felt after losing, etc. It doesn't always have to be wins for it to be decent content, happy endings are nice but not always realistic. Or just cut out the GSL bits entirely if they choose. If they believe they'll get good content from it there's no reason not to wait, it wouldn't delay the documentary by all that long and would be the perfect ending for the documentary imo.

Um, okay.
PS. And TL isn't a "foreign" team, it's an international team. It's been that since the day they started a pro team.

It's a damn good job you're not the one making the documentary.
im glad wellm get to see this documentary end with hero and taeja making it deep into code S its a great way to end the film showing the big time ''rise'' of TL

I don't see why that's such a huge thing. They are just Koreans on a foreign team training in Korea every day, if a foreigner would reach the final I would agree but now? no
Actually I kinda agree with Jakkerr. I don't mind that foreign teams go around picking up Korean players but it feels kinda cheating when they still train with their old team. In my mind if you switch teams u should be training with ur current team and work together to increase the team's skill level. Honestly if Taeja or Hero wins GSL I won't go nuts because it still feels like they're still Slayers_Taeja or OGS_Hero.

So if what you're saying is true, then we should have never cheered for Jinro when he made Ro4 twice. And we should absolutely never cheer HuK, and we shouldn't cheer Naniwa on his upcoming matches. Jinro and HuK were both in the oGs house and Naniwa is training in the Startale house. All these great foreign players haven't trained with their "own teams" as you say it. They are all training with the koreans which are not on their team and that's how they got better.
i'm not saying you shouldn't cheer for them. I'm saying I feel like foreign teams buying good Korean players but leaving them to train with their old team instead of getting them to train with their current team feels kinda cheating to me and a bit of a waste for the foreign players on those teams that could benefit from training day in and day out with the Korean player.

If you feel differently I'm happy that you do.
So what you are saying is that, basically, when foreign teams buy good korean players, the only thing that changes is the team that the player represents and the person paying salary, but the said korean player's life remains practically the same. And it gets on your nerves because the foreign team gets credibility for the korean player success, even though the player could have done just as well without the foreign team. Is this what your thinking?

You're leading this to something else. There's a huge difference with what the previous posts were saying to what you are. They're saying Koreans training in Korea but are in foreign teams aren't a big deal, while you're implying that they're saying you shouldn't get hyped up for the players you as an individual want to win. And you talking about Jinro and Huk proves you're on a different spectrum.
I agree with the previous posts. What's the big deal about a Korean in a foreign team doing well in the GSL, if they're training in Korea?! I don't see Taeja as Liquid yet - he's all SlayerS for a long time. Should we see HerO any differently? Should we consider them "foreigner", just because of their team name? The whole "foreigner" vs Korea is so ridiculous that people put foreigners that succeed against Koreans on any occasion on some special pedestal, start throwing words like "bonjwa" around. Shit, FXO is a foreign team, but when Leenock won MLG, the forums weren't flooded with the crap that came when Stephano won IPL3.

I personally couldn't care less about the team. I didn't, and still don't, have an overwhelming respect for Incredible Miracle just because they field two three-time GSL champions. Never did, never will. I didn't suddenly find myself drooling over NSHS when Jjakji won. But when I watched how he, as an individual, took down Leenock, he got my respect.
I disagree with the "cheating" thing. My personal gripe is when people put these individuals on a different level because of their team name. Like shit, it feels like Taeja didn't have any fans before he was Liquid, when I'm sure he had a lot.

Well, while it's unlikely that anybody can change the way you feel about it, I'll try to explain why your emotions are extremely irrational in this case.
HerO has been living and training with TL players and in what's technically a (shared) TL house since long before he actually joined the team. So HerO not only meets, but exceeds the expectations you declared.
Taeja is actually living at home and training on his own, in fact he's not even based in Seoul. So if he's not Liquid enough by your standards, then he most certainly isn't and hasn't ever been SlayerS either.
Moreover, the way training works in SC2 (especially so in foreign teams), all players pretty much arrange their own training and pick their own training partners, and it's very common for practice partners to not be teammates. This isn't Brood War, teams don't really actively train together on a day-to-day basis.

You say that the whole "foreigner vs Korea" thing is ridiculous - which is true, some people are really irrationally obsessed with player's nationality - but then you base your whole argument around it and agree with the people that do the same.
As for Korean in Korea doing well in the GSL being a big deal, you do realize that there are hundreds of Korean players, training in Korea, that don't do well in GSL and fail to qualify for Code S, or even Code A, right? How is it NOT a big deal for any player and their team to have two of their players reach the RO8 of the most prestigious tournament in the world, especially if they made it that far for the first time in their careers?

b-b-but liquid is funding it, releasing it for no charge. how dare they change their release date to include the most prestigious tournament finals. especially when there are no other tournaments in the next months where liquid has a high probability of winning it.
i justhope liquid is smart and ends the doc. with the code S semi-final / finals cause if theyd ecide for gstl since the WHOLE TL will be a part of it this season.. then i indeed will be very mad

Nothing will top a Code S victory for a long time.
The only thing that could possibly top a Code S victory is if when Proleague goes to sc2 and Liquid gets to compete somehow they end up winning a year long season with an epic 4-3 finals.
Well, hopefully this won't be the last liquid documentary , I say that with full confidence without having seen anymore of it than everybody else. But If this would be done all 2-3 years, than in 15 years we could look back at the team history, that would be epic.
Get the code S run of Hero into it and then release it finally, can't wait!
Honestly I'd be happy if the documentary ended with all those awesome teamleagues earlier this year. Liquid had a fantastic showing (from TLO's 3-kill to beating TSL to nearly beating FXO), and ending it with Taeja's pick up and a nod to Hero's rise would be fine.
But on the other hand... a Code S victory would be worth the wait
On May 15 2012 06:51 PhoenixDark wrote: One word for this doc craze: oversaturation. Seems like each one is getting progressively longer as they chase stories at each tournament
Not so much that as it is by the time most of these documentaries are released, the context IMO is going to be pretty much irrelavant.
They really need to decide on where they're going to cut off the amount of content. I would like for that to be at HerO's code S success but who knows...
The thing is, there will ALWAYS be something "new" to film. At some point, Liquid just needs to realize that an oversaturation of content in its film isn't good.

Well, it seems that they would be cutting out any fluff within the older footage with the addition of newer footage edited to the same standards. That being said, I have faith in the upcoming product and can't wait!

22h Michael Krukar @MichaelKrukar @blaFish3 I can't say too much but pay attention next week.
i just wish it was like a never ending documentary where they kept making more of them. Like liquid rising two or something like that. It's not realistic but whatever it sounds cool to me ^^
See this is the tricky thing about making a documentary on something that doens't have an "offseason" there's always stuff going on and will constantly be new things for you to add to the documentary.
if you ask me, they shud stop adapting to the changes to the team if thats why it keeps getting delayed. im sure the new players wouldnt care if they werent in the documentary because they joined late... i wonna see it!
