Hello everyone! The time has finally come for us to announce the venue for IPL4! Our $100,000 StarCraft 2 tournament and $50,000 League of Legends tournament will take place at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in Nevada, USA!
We are also extremely happy to announce that the Global StarCraft II Team League FINALS will take place at IPL4 at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Official Home of the IPL!
Thanks to a partnership with GOMTV, the two finalist teams for the Global StarCraft II Team League will be flown in to Las Vegas to compete on stage for the ₩30,000,000 ($26,000) first prize! As an extension of this partnership, any and all players brought over for the GSTL finals will be invited to play in our IPL4 open, live qualifier for a chance at a piece of our $100,000 StarCraft II prize pool!
The GSTL finals will be cast in both English and Korean and will be broadcast all over the world.
The teams still remaining in the GSTL at this moment are: FXOpen eSports, NSHoSeo, Incredible Miracle, MVP, oGsTL, Prime, SlayerS, StarTaleQ(uantic)
The GSTL is in its 5th iteration and is a series of best of 9, all-kill format matches. Previous winners are Incredible Miracle, SlayerS, who won twice in a row, and MVP, the reigning champions.
We hope that this announcement encourages more of you to attend the event in person, as well as trying out our new high definition subscription model! Find out more details about the event here and here! For more information about the GSTL's new schedule, check here!
Cosmopolitan is a pretty nice place to stay, I have to say, this coming from someone who frequently visits Vegas. Only question now is will I be able to go that weekend...
Much of respect to your media production crew. This promotional video is yet another step in the right direction. Outstanding work and very excited to watch the event
holy ipl batman get me 5 grand to fly to vegas play some poker and go to this fanatstic event! well i defently buy a membership also rly enjoy ur daily stuff ! as i talk about daily stuff what about HD and Painuser? I rly like Doa as well as CatsPajamas but some variation would be nice
Interesting choice for the venue. That hotel is generally more expensive then others on the strip...not sure how the demographic will be able to afford the room rates, unless you guys got a sick convention deal. Either way, I will 100% be there =)
i assume that the place will be a 21 and over entry due to the location again? wasnt that one of the main complaints last time, that although the venue for ipl3 was sweet, being exclusionary was kinda a dick move?
i hope they can get some kind of arrangement to allow everyone in :o

Seriously considering splurging on this...but still cannot access the facebook page 50% discount. Very interested in the VIP pass :x waiting for the special rates to see if I can afford it.
It looks like it will be incredible. It also looks like it will absolutely hemorrhage money. Vegas hotels are ridiculously expensive, and there is a very small SC2 demographic there. I don't really expect a huge audience, but who knows. Maybe the GSL collaboration (and UNLV nerds) can turn this into a success. However, they could have easily held this event in NYC, LA, or many other major cities with much higher SC2 loving population and cheaper hotels. Seems like bad business, but I guess IGN has money to spare.
Damn, I just look up room prices, and the cheapest rooms were $755.00 for a 4 night stay on the 5th,6th,7th and 8th. And a 3 night stay is still $600+.
I hope that they have some wicked discount. I stayed at the flamingo for $55/night (or cheaper?) one time in Vegas. So just FYI to other people that there other hotels (like almost next door lol) that are cheaper...but maybe won't be as nice.

However, I will probably pay $5 for the online package and wish IPL the best of luck!
Vegas is actually known as a huge convention center city. The venues and flights at Vegas during this time of year are actually not that expensive at all. Second, Vegas is within driving distance of many major cities (less than a 4.5 hour drive from SoCal).
As for Boss, he is definitely an industry insider, but he still is just one opinion. But I am a bit doubtful that doing an event the size of IPL in NYC could be less expensive than Vegas.
I'm definitely considering going to this... Flights to Vegas are cheap as far as flying goes. If the group discount isn't that great, there are cheaper hotels nearby.
Some say its a little over the top, but we built this Moon Base for ESPORTS. NASA had nothing better to do, so we gave them all free Skyrim Collectors Editions in exchange for said Moon Base.

No one is able to find affordable space in a place like NYC. Even then, it would have to be far out, so the choice of such a city is led ad absurdum.
LV being a major convention city (CES anyone?) brings both the available real estate as well as lodging and connectivity.

I have driven to Las Vegas from Chicago a few times. And would do it again. But that (a 24hr drive) is my limit. I wouldn't drive to CA or such. And I can get my friends to go with me to Las Vegas who wouldn't go with me to other places. I don't have any friends who play StarCraft.

You can say that your event is in NYC but actually have the convention space somewhere in New Jersey or the out skirts of the city. The thing that would make it cheaper is the wider range of hotels available, taxes, and cheaper airfare. He could still be wrong, but there are definitely ways to have a "cheap" convention in NYC area.

Well that's the thing. If it is for the NYC "tag" alone, then I don't know if it would be worth it at all. You could be doing one in Denver, or anywhere. Cheaper is always possible.
Used Travelocity to look into booking here. For my brother and I flying down from Oregon, four night stay(upgrading to a luxury room), we were looking at about $700.00 for both($350ish each). I figure it'll end up being cheaper taking a taxi there and back than what the rates at that place currently look like. I'll hold off on booking though until we can see discount rates.
Hoping the discounts are good T.T I need to see if I have the budget to go! About the video... I think a different narrator would be better. The one in the trailer sounds a bit forced and takes away from building the element of suspense and hype imho. I hope IPL4 will be a great event!
lol this looks amazing. isn`t the hotel next to the venue (the belagio) the one from the ocean 11 movie? hopefully a ton of people will come and have a good time. IPL fighting!
They have a 4 nights for the price of 3 deal going on for the next 16 hours before it expires. Any chance we can get info on the deal IPL is getting for us so we can decide which offer is better?
I was just there for my bachelor party, hitting up Marquee on Friday night. The nightlife at that hotel is amazing with very upscale-dressed folks and amazing looking women. It is THE hotspot right now. Very nice venue book, IPL. Much props on an amazing venue.
This is so not fair! There is no way that I can afford to go to this, and it looks amazing. Why are you so bad-ass IPL?? Congrats on a great choice for location and venue, but damnit next time make it some place I can afford to get to please?
Nice hype video and amazing location! IPL4 is destined to be a huge success. I hope David Ting still remembers my feedback e-mail I sent right after IPL3.
By the way, what is the music in the background of the hype video?
I have a few questions that have yet to be answered:
1. Is this BYOC? Im assuming no, since it has not been mentioned, but what will we need as competitors? Keyboard? mouse? nothing, everything will be provided?
2. Are there going to be any promotions with Cosmopolitan or nearby hotels or attractions? Any special hotel/flight deals?
3. I assume competitor passes are also good as spectator passes. Is there going to be a special room or special accommodations for competitors vs spectators, other than getting to participate? (like a competitor room, ie better access to see/meet pros)

I can't say for sure but I CAN tell you how things were for IPL3:
1.Computers are provided as well as keyboards and mice... but they were pretty crappy/hard to play on (especially the keyboard). I would recommend bringing your own mouse and keyboard.
2.IPL announced they would be releasing hotel discount packages for Cosmopolitan but the info hasnt come out yet. The Cosmo is one of the most expensive hotels on the strip so you might be able to get a better deal looking somewhere else close by. Flights in general aren't the most expensive to vegas, not sure where ur from but i think they were around $70 one way from Northern California.
3.Yes competitor passes double as spectator passes. At IPL3, there was a players practice room with computers set up for players to use. Alot of SlayerS and TL were in there and there were plenty of computers available.
Soooo hyped for this!! Chance to get stomped by a pro, watch an incredible tournament in my home town, as well as see GSTL???? This is gonna be fantastic, and I can't wait for April to get here!!! :D Thanks IPL, delivering yet again!
How to spend money correctly, an IPL essay. Props to these smart men.
The fact that the players of the GSTL finalists will be able to compete will bring this whole GSTL season a brand new meaning. Potentially there's the possibility of a relatively unknown b-teamer to take the IPL prize if his team performs well enough to grab the finalist spot, I'll bet whatever you want that korean players are training hard as fuck both for the team and themselves. Great games incoming, that's for sure.
ah so awesome that they getting discounted hotel rooms. Hopefully they are affordable since the hotel prob wont mind giving a big discount with bringing this many people from NA and KR into their house which = money for casino lol
If the GSTL finals are there, then at least two of the GSL casters will as well. Don't see why Tastosis wouldn't be around except if they want to give Moletrap/Khaldor/Wolf a treat and send them to a big international tournament.
Those pictures are so fucking awesome. I wish I could go there so much! I hope everyone going has an amazing time! E-sports! Look how far we are going! <333
If you buy a competitor badge, will you need a spectator badge as well to watch/spectate after you get roflstomped in round 1? Question for both GSTL and the rest of IPL4 event.

Thank you for the info, sounds like safe/fair assumptions.
Hopefully someone from IPL will see this as well and be able to confirm as well. Or make another post sooner than later because the sooner the cheaper...plz hurry IPL, it will be appreciated.
Hopefully when IPL86 comes, you'll have a lot of content for your trailer. Only being able to use footage from one event (IPL3) made it look like a Stephano promotional clip, lol.
I am so upset that I cannot go to this. It's going to be so sick. Ugh, damned school-year work schedule.
IPL really raising the bar for eSports and Starcraft II yet again - when I started watching Brood War about six years ago, I could only dream of events like this being put on in the USA. IGN, I hope you all come back to Vegas again in the future and keep doing what you do (hopefully during the summer so I can come watch )

I believe Wolf has confirmed he will be attending.
Wolf Schröder @ProxyWolf See you guys at IPL4.
I would be shocked if Tastosis was not there. IPL should be in need of more casters for their offline event. I would expect them to do multiple live streams.
Pretty sick. They have announced IPL5 will be at the same location in August along with GSL. So if you couldn't get a ticket this time you won't have to wait too long for the next IPL :D
Any word on who is casting this yet? I assume at the very least Doa + Catspajamas + hdpainuser conglomerate. I know DJWHEAT won't be casting because he is going to PAX.
We have TotalBiscuit, dApollo, CatzPajamas, DOA, HDStarcraft and PainUser.
Really? I was quite excited until I saw this. Honestly it's really disappointing.
Apollo is one of the best casters in the world. CatzPajamas and DOA are both very good as well and they make a great team. The rest I could take or leave, but they aren't 'bad' by any stretch.
Unfortunately for me, the flight I am planning on taking (but was waiting for any discount notifications, as they have eluded to) has literally DOUBLED in price.....not even sure if i can afford this anymore...information sooner is appreciated

did you have a competitor pass?? if so pm me plz! ( that is if you cant make it, sorry to be a shark, but im desperate lol)
I really hope the package deal is better than the 4 nights for the price of 3 deal (25% off) that's going to expire in 6 hours. I really don't have a strict budget for this, but I'd like to not overspend if I didn't have to.

Are all competitor passes sold out already? I got mine early on, just fun maybe i'll get destroyed by someone famous, but if some good player got shot out, i might be willing to let the pass go, providing its even possible since its registered to my name.

Your a better men that me. I'm only gold and I wouldn't give up my pass out of the goodness of my heart.
Well, the 25% off on 4 nights deal is expiring in 3 hours. I'm just going to hold out in the hope that the deal with IPL is better. Its a shame we couldn't get any word on what the deal was in time.
Having participated in Vegas-based conventions a few times in my industry I'm definitely excited to being going back to the strip for another "convention-esque" event. While and expensive city I'm sure that IGN has something worked out to make the live venue more approachable for the general fan-base, especially considering the cost of airfare and that the event happens to occur over Easter weekend, a time when air fares tend to skyrocket since it's a holiday. I'm a huge believer in what they and other organizations are trying to do and hopefully things will all work swimmingly come event time. I know that any of you wondering if it's worth the expense to see the event should DEFINITELY consider this event very seriously since Vegas is an extremely enjoyable town. Tons to do and lots to enjoy if you are truly interested in having a good time, but with esports madness who needs to even bother with other things? Regardless see whoever ends up in Vegas there again, looking forward to enjoying some good times and great eSports soon!
i'm gonna buy a subscription even though i don't have the bandwidth to watch it on anything higher than 240p! why? because i love and support starcraft 2!

If the Cosmopolitan is something you can't afford, even with IPL's discount, you can always check out other Hotels nearby. Everything is right next to each other on the strip so the walk isn't too long.

Any chance we could get an idea of which deal will be better? Like very quickly? pleeease?
Don't worry about missing this promotion, it was not actually a discount but a hotel credit. You would pay full price for the room and get either a $50, $100, or $150.00 hotel credit that could be used anywhere in the facility - but not for a discount on the room price.

AGREED! I stayed at balley's once, which is easily walking distance, and the cost was $30.00 per night. I've also been to the Planet Hollywood which is right across the street for under $100.00 a night. If you want to venture farther, like Circus Circus, I imagine you can find even better deals.

You're looking at the wrong deal. There was a buy 3 get the 4th free. The deal you speak of was also available.
I see that now, too bad because that might have saved some money. Now I really hope the IPL4 package deal is a savings because four nights at the cheapest room costs $845.60 with taxes.

Agreed. While it sounds like a lot of money, lots of us would have spent that much on Blizzcon this year, which isn't happening.
The only reason why my wife is ok with a near $1000 hotel room is because we've done that every year since 2007 for Blizzcon.
Edit: Although, $2000 for alcohol sounds a bit extreme.
This is amazing. I've never been that hyped about one event. IPL could maybe make a "tip jar" for their next event. I'm not sure they need it, but i'm ready to give them more than 5$ for what they offer...
awesome.. stayed at cosmo in jan.. had a room with a sick view overlooking the strip/bellagio fountains.... love the cosmo.. but I prefer the wynn. still psyched about this.. possibility of seeing progamers inside marquee or xs very funny ha
Sweet. Pretty good deal on a room and it brings it in line with the surrounding hotels. Only thing is we can't choose a fountain view, but I love the price.
More cash for other things now. 4 nights purchased!
Anyone ever stayed at Bally's before? I've never been to Vegas but the gf and I are thinking of making the trip. Bally's is about half the price, I don't particularly care about having a fancy room since I'll pretty much just be sleeping there and the hotels seem pretty close (at least easily within walking distance).

I haven't stayed at Bally's but I know the walk isn't too bad, especially if the flat escalator out front is working. You'll get to walk by the Bellagio fountains as well

Well I guess I'll be staying at the Flamingo ... again. I'm trying to get my friends to go with me and $120/night is just too much money for just a place you will be drunk and sleeping at.
EDIT: oh Bally's looks cheap too. And I haven't stayed there before.
We really encourage anyone who comes to the event to stay at the venue! The discounted room rates are essentially 70% off of their usual price! Plus, you can just go down the elevator in the mornings and BAM! You're in eSports Heaven!
What's the Chelsea like? Usually used for concerts, right? I heard it'll be fold out chairs, but who cares about that. I can't find too much info about the ballroom.

The Chelsea is amazing. Very cool, very huge, very tall ballroom.
Oh man are those hotel rates incredible. You guys have outdone yourself. Damn gradschool across the pond, if I was stateside id be here in a heartbeat.
I'm booked for the 6th and the 7th. This deal is amazing to stay in the most futuristic hotel in the world. It's definitely not 70% off, but still you can't miss this deal.

Is it a free one?
LOL... quite the opposite. Wasn't my fav for buffets either. (At least I didn't get stuck in the 3hr line for it during thanksgiving). The nifty thing about the Wicked Spoon is that they put the individual portions in separate dishes.
Booked rooms at Aria, because I can stay there nearly free. Would have to get the Terrace room at Cosmo for the tub for the wife.
Bummed that it seems all the suites at Aria were booked already though.
The room rates for the Cosmo are pretty darn cheap, it's usually a lot more, especially on the weekend.
Sorry I've been reading over this for some time and can't fine an answer and I've probably just missed it. When should I book my return flight as to not miss the finals? The ticket time says it ends at 9pm PST so I'm guessing I would need to find a flight leaving around midnight? Or probably have to stay until monday morning?

Oh yea, I know. I was being dumb. I remember the first time I stayed in Vegas, the hotel buffet was $30. Can't believed I paid it too...

It's probably a good idea to get a monday morning flight. We're aiming to be done around then, but you never know, it really depends on how long it takes to play out. Either get a midnight or early am redeye or get a monday flight.
IPL, what? How did you possibly organize something as cool and awesome as this?!?!? how?!?!?!?!?! You are doing amazing things for the esports community, helping to make it more legitimate than ever before. Wow...just...wow.

Bally's is about half the price, I don't particularly care about having a fancy room since I'll pretty much just be sleeping there and the hotels seem pretty close (at least easily within walking distance).
Help please...?
I've stayed at Bally's like 75% of the time that I've gone to Vegas. It's really nice; rooms are clean, location is amazing. It's totally worth it.

Better off Monday morning sometime. I remember at IPL3, two guys had bus tickets to NY, but the show ran a little long so had to miss the final match. Stay until Monday and you won't miss anything. You can always check out Sunday and check your bags with the hotel, then power through the night at the airport if money is a problem.

Bally's is super cheap for a strip hotel, but if you can swing it, you really should spend the extra and stay at Cosmo. First to support IPL4, and second, because you'll likey see players and casts gambling, drinking, and just walking around. I hope nobody is a dick when I walk up and say "hi"
I booked my terrace room for four nights! This is going to be great! If anybody needs an extra two beds for the trip, let me know, odds are, I will be passing out on the floor somewhere and will never make it to the bed. I just hope I make it to my room!!

We will not be doing the same open application process as IPL3, unfortunately. We have reached out to the people we worked with at IPL3 and are pleased that many of them are returning for IPL4. =)
My friend and I were thinking of making a trip back to Vegas for this, but the flights out of Miami / Ft. Lauderdale are quite pricey for those days. We did find one relatively economical round-trip option, but unfortunately it doesn't agree with his scheduling needs. Unless we find some other magical offers pop up in the next couple of weeks, it looks like we might not make it. So close, yet so far! lol. Speaking of magic if any of you is looking into checking out a show, I would highly recommend the David Copperfield show it's mind blowing. I saw him at the MGM Grand just down the street from where the venue is located, maybe a 10-15 minute walk. He is a great entertainer, and the show itself is very impressive. Audience involvement is optional, but is also a cool feature about that one as well.
if i was in america, i'd go this forsure. Guys dont let this opportunity pass. Cosmopolitan +great production+vegas glam+great ipl 4 tournament+ Alcohol AND gstl finals to top it off? What more could we ask for. I know, since the gstl teams can compete, that might very well mean TEAM mvp will make it, So DRG+Genius could be in the open bracket as well
Oh wow, I really wish I could go. But the timing isn't the best for a first year grad student like me so I have to pass this. At least I can watch the stream during the weekend.
By the way, does the IGN Prime member gets the HQ stream for free or do we have to pay 5$ for the stream?

As I've never been to Vegas before... what is parking like?
Flight & Gas prices for driving are comparable (~200-300), so I am just curious as to whether or not parking costs a lot.
For those who are looking for flights, check this site out, it really helps when planning for cheap flights (maybe put it on the front page to help people out): http://www.skyscanner.com/
enter your nearest airport(s) and then Las Vegas Mccarren (LAS) for the arrival airport. It scans every site, every flight offered.

Almost any hotel you stay at will have free hotel parking. I've made the road trip to Vegas from Chicago a few times. And if you split it with a few friends, it's a lot cheaper then flying. And it's nice to just have a car, if for no other reason then to drive to buy food and booze cheaply.

I've seen hotels for this other thing that I am contemplating this same weekend in the Seattle area charge 15-19 per day. So I was just curious, it isn't unheard of in larger (and touristy) cities, though I am aware that most all hotels are free.

No problem No discount for competitors as far as I know. But yeah it is definitely a bit expensive. I think I'm just going to try and stay 2 nights or so since I live in Socal and its only 3 hours from me. So I'll only need a room Fri/Saturday.

I'm staying at Ceasar's Palace, flight and a room for 550 total. Granted we have 3 people going so we're sharing a double queen bed room for 3 people, but look on the travelocity/expedia etc. and just find a hotel on the strip. It's not like you have to stay at the cosmo to go to IPL4, but it probably would be cooler.
