I don't get the big deal. Tastosis make plenty of rather bashful jokes too - TheBest banshee control, BitByBit etc.

And Katu gets bashed for this? Okay, it wasn't funny and was in bad taste but the uproar is ridiculous

Agreed, what katu did was wrong, but the way people are pulling the pitchforks is just ridiculous!

This type of thing happens to everyone. People will once in a while say something that is off hand, but they don't realize it at the time. Unfortunately it happened to Katu while he was live on Playhem. I hope they don't fire Katu. Before this incident he has always been a very entertaining caster and always so active in getting the chat involved. He clearly loves his job and it would be sad to see it get taken away over something so stupid. And people are acting like Katu killed someone or said something racist to Dragon. People need to get a life and stop causing all this stupid drama.

It's even more remarkable that some people can't see the difference in criticizing someone's play and accusing someone for cheating.

There are a few areas you just shouldn't touch if you're speaking publicly - things like family, or honour - unless you want to create an unpleasant controversy. Casters usually avoid crossing that line, Katu didn't. That's why it is different, not popularity.

Oh and the line about Americans being socialists was obviously a joke- I can't believe people are taking that seriously. Are casters not allowed to make jokes now?

Imagine yourself in the situation of looking for a job.
Now, imagine someone broadcasting on the internet information that you stole from your last employer, and that's why you are now jobless.
I'm sure you will find the "joke" funny.

I have a tip for you to recognize if someone is joking, when someone says "just kidding that's not true", he is most likely joking and on the contrary, when someone says "I don't care, I'm just stating the truth", he is most likely serious.

This was a clear deliberated attempt to ruin someone's reputation, career and life, not a joke.

Except in this case it was true.

True or not, it really doesn't change my point.

And guess what, from the posts above it really looks like it was not true.

Of course, if the caster had no proof of what he was stating, it's even more serious, it's diffamation. It's beyond unprofesionnal, it's illegal. And dragon could very well sue him.

He couldn't sue him we have free speech here.

freedom of speech does not equal to you can say whatever you want:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation

In this case, if I can still recall well from my law unit, Dragon can in fact sue him for it because many of the statements were baseless and wrong while it could mislead other people to think that he might had stream cheated in that game AND he was banned from Code A and kicked from SlayerS due to stream cheating.

To whoever thinks what he did was ok:
He wasn't bashing dragon's game play that got him into trouble.
It's how he is saying dragon could be stream cheating AND making accusations like those that really are the issues here.

GSL didn't ban him from Code A
SlayerS picked him up after he was caught stream cheating.

When you say something like that as a caster in public, you are deemed to be heavily punished

Holy shit! 43 pages later and people are taking it this seriously? I'm not usually the one to say this because I am in front of the computer A LOT. But seriously, some people need to get out and enjoy the sun.

This is being blown WAAAAAY outta proportion! I guess the internetez makes some people crazy huh?

Myself, I seen the funny side of it. I actually had a laugh and liked the guy casting. BTW, I am a fan of Dragon. People really need to chill. Why are so many people so quick to jump in on a witch hunt?

This is pathetic guys... really........ get over it.

Typically when you sue for defamation you would have to prove you incured some sort of financial damage in order to collect. If anything the opposite has occured, in that dragon has gained attention and the invite to IPL.

I find it really wrong to think this way, especially when the person that is getting his reputation damaged isn't you.
Just because you don't find it a serious issue doesn't mean it isn't one for Dragon.

Whether it should be "haha, go out and enjoy and don't make a drama out of this" or "omfg, this is fk'in bullshyt. let's take it to the court!!1!1!", they are none of our decision to make. Just because you are a dragon's fan, doesn't make you can make the decision for him as well.

I think the 43 pages have proven it to be more than just a laughing matter to be brushed away.

I am here just to tell you guys that this CAN BE a serious issue and it seems that lots of people believe the only wrong that he did was flaming Dragon's play and stream cheating, which was entirely wrong.

edit: Woot! 2012 post! Glad this one is a post that actually have some content in it lol

The only thing 43 pages on a TL thread surrounding Drama(R) proves is that the SC2 scene has a bunch of drama queens. Telling people to get over this will ruin their fun of spewing bile around, and give them a reason to spew more bile - at you. Time. They will quiet down or move on to the next juicy drama story like they always do. Silly people with nothing more productive to do. And I am one.

Shame on everyone that thinks this katu guy is evil and they, themselves, are saints. You can't call a guy "pathetic" and "disgusting" for rude and unprofessional jokes if you don't think you, yourself, are morally superior 24/7. You've never messed up and regretted it?

Of course it was dumb, of course he acted immaturely, of course he should be punished, of course he should apologize, of course he should etc.

But, some of y'all are some serious drama queens.

Dragon would have to prove his reputation suffered (or as someone else said, incurred some financial loss), and may even be considered a public figure within this community, carrying additional requirements (actual malice) to collect damages. Proving Katu had actual malice would be much harder.

The SC2 landscape has a ton of self-policing, and the SC2 "media" (casters, tournaments) doesn't have the same influence over the specific SC2 community that the traditional media has held over the general public. We also have a lot less money in our system than the general media/public, and since defamation suits are typically long and expensive, there will be fewer instances where going to court would be worth it.

Also, Playhem and katu put out what were essentially retractions, which would make sustaining a trial that much harder.

I think everyone needs to recognize that there is a difference between saying TheBest has bad banshee control and joking about it(while still saying that he is a great player, mind you) and making accusations and inflamming your audience for your own personal amusement.

Saying that, Katu is out at Playhem, Playhem have more than apologized, Dragon is going to IPL, seems like this situation is over.

And for all the court references, jesus, ok ya'll are the drama queens. The redeeming acts by Playhem more than outweigh the damages done, if anything it gives Dragon more publicity too. The only one who suffers is Katu, frankly I never really knew his name before this, I always thought the Playhem streams were a bit dull, having been used to Tastosis quality casting for the past 2 years.

I think it's great this thread is still open, if some drama queens spend their time here it means they may be less likely to post in other threads.

If someone had made jokes about someone like TT1's cheating past nobody would have batted an eyelid. Hell I see people do it every time he posts on TL. Why are are Korean progamers so sacrosant? This guy did cheat in the past and while he has been forgiven and we shouldn't dwell on it I don't see the harm in the odd joke or reference to it.

Thanks for telling me to go outside and enjoy the sun, I'll get right on that while it's snowing here right now. And no what katu did really is bad enough to warrant this big of a thread and shouldn't just be forgotten after 1 day. He basically attempted to slander and tarnish dragons name with false accusations, stuff that he could actually get sued over. He was "trolling" and even in the video talks about how he doesn't care about what the chat or viewers think of his trolling. The apology he made contradicts with what actually happened in the video and is completely insincere. I for one will make a point of never watching anything that he is involved with again.
