RED BULL LAN IN ORLANDO INTENSIVE TRAINING WEEKEND TO PREP e-SPORTS ATHLETES FOR THE TOURNAMENT SEASON
Heyo! Day[9] here with a kick ass event announcement.
Red Bull, purveyor of tasty liquid focus, is BACK with the first of five Red Bull LANs in 2012, this time in Orlando on March 16-18. Better still, Red Bull Gaming has invited the Day[9]TV crew to help plan and run the entire SC2 portion of the event. Huzzah!
Given that Day[9]TV is all about being a better gamer, we set about creating a 3 day training curriculum to help the SC2 pros level up their game.
Twelve top pro SC2 gamers from some of the biggest SC2 teams on the planet will unite in Orlando at Full Sail University to practice and prepare for the 2012 tournament season.
Four SC2 invitees will be the “Focus Players” for the event. The LAN will explore their personalities, their personal stories, their strengths and weaknesses, and how they’re training to improve.
Each Focus Player will have a personalized “Challenge” to help him reach his SC2 goals and address gameplay issues.
The remaining eight gamers will be “Training Players.” They’ll help the Focus Players in their Challenges as well as train for their own upcoming tournaments.
The final day will culminate in a mini-tournament to crown the best of the Red Bull LAN: Orlando.
Day[9] and DJWheat commentating with their dash cunning rapport and personal charm.
Training games from all twelve players.
Challenges for each of the Focus Players, full of measurable progress and benchmarks.
Strategy insights that may help you improve your own game.
On site interviews.
Bios of the Focus Players—who are they? How did they get where they are?
The Red Bull LAN final tournament.
Your questions answered by the pros live on the stream.
Funday Monday with the pros. I’m not kidding. Team Monobattles anyone?
We’ll be announcing the players in the weeks leading up to the Red Bull LAN. We promise top names—the players you love to watch and follow.
Start chatting about it right here! This clinic is for YOU as well as for the pros. We want to hear all your ideas for this event and future Red Bull LANs. Who do you think the invited twelve should be? What do you think each Focus Player needs to work on? How would YOU design a challenge? What types of practice games would you like to see? What sorts of strategies do you struggle with?
Be sure to ask questions via twitter (@RedBullGaming) and the stream chat! As mentioned above, we’ll be taking your questions to the pros throughout the event. Ever wanted to know why your favorite streamer always does that one zany strat? The Red Bull LAN gives you a chance to find out why
Until then, get pumped, and start speculating on who the next two announced players will be :D.
Sick! Can't wait to get to know more about Parting.
edit: assuming at least a bit of background will be given about the team players instead of just the focus players. Still hyped at any opportunity to see more of him though.

I had an idea for this next LAN: three special Day[9] dailies this weekend, one for each race, each daily with a guest from its race, taken from the training group, i.e., Sheth again for a Zerg daily, maybe Parting w/ translator for a Toss daily, etc. And the daily could be an analysis of a matchup played in the LAN by that specific player.

No, focus players will be the main focus of the event personality wise apparently, with the 'team players' being a bit like their sparring partners/supporting cast for the event.
didn't really realize how awesome the redbullLAN was until it was almost over, i will definetely watch it this time, and having my notebook out! really hope demuslim will be there :O

but i mean the players that are in focus are good but not established is what im asking. because if they were going to train super good people then parting would be in focus, but idk

With 12 players at the event, we would only be able to focus on each one a tiny bit. So, rather than learn a tiny bit about all the players, I liked the idea of learning a TON about 4. Hence, they are the "focus" players of the event .

Demuslim will be at the Lone Star Clash. Can't be two places at once :O

Doubt it due to EG's Moster sponsorship
No EG players will attend. I'm sure. Not happy to here it though
i would love to see gumiho there if possible, how could he improve so much so quickly. remember how bad he played vs yugiho on r32, then come to the whole new gumiho. so skilled
I think the best thing about this thread is the graphics.
Not that I don't LOVE the Red Bull LAN events, and even the first two invites have me hooked to watch, but threads these days tend to lack quality graphics. Kudos for getting some AWESOME graphics for this, and for having an awesome event.
Just out of curiosity, why host it in Orlando when the MLG event is in Columbus? My first guess would be something about international flights and whatnot.
This is the sort of event that makes the Sc2 community so amazing. To be privy to such detail in regards to training and preparation is the stuff of nerd ballers dreams! Can't wait for the in depth focus on Sheth, as his Zerg play is some of the best to watch to get better imo.

wow thats actually a great point, i hadnt thought about it like that. thanks!
Incredible to get such a huge company as Red Bull to sponsor SC2! Definitely makes me buy their product if they keep this up I really enjoyed the first Red Bull lan, tons of videos and the fun more "relaxed" casting that Day9 did was great.
I'd personally want to see people like Destiny or some of the other more people who really have a huge and known personality in SC2. Idra might be abit too much to hope for, but still
Would love to see White-ra and Stephano (they should be in US around that time ? ). As for other players Mana, Thorzain, Kas, HasuObs at least for his sexy voice so he can commentate something with Day9, but also because I would love him to get some awesome practice so he can own again.
What will not happen, but I would love to see, because I like the player a lot : I would love In_Dove to be one of the focus players. I know he does not deserve the spot in some way due to his only recent start with SC2, but I would also like to see how he could improve by being able to communicate and train with such great players. Apart from liking him I think it would be interesting experiment to see how much training with top SC2 pros can help in such a short time former BW pro who is not that good yet at SC2. Focus player is probably too much, but would be nice to see him as training player. I know it won't happen, but would like to see that
I'm hoping for at least one focus player of each race, and then at least one sick good Korean of each race to help them train. It would be nice if there was at least one Korean focus player but I can see how it would be difficult to get their personality through the language barrier also also I'm not sure how much they.
Personally I think Axslav would be an awesome focus player, he's got the "part of the scene but just starting to really show results" storyline, as well as the "recently joined Reign who then disbanded story" so I think he'd be a pretty easy sell for the audience. Also he'd gain a lot from the publicity and training with PartinG.
I don't think there is a better Zerg training partner to get then DRG, his English is really good and he just also happens to be the best Zerg in the world,
I dunno, the format seems strange to me, considering most of the players will be as good as the 2 announced so far. Why not just make it a 12 man tournament then? As of now I'd rather watch the Lone Star Clash.

Because it is not a tournament and frankly considering how awesome last Redbull LAN was I would watch it over any tournament actually, MLG, Dreamhack, GSL,... Of course in reality you do not have to choose

I am so excited to see this! It sounds even more awesome than the last one! The only downside is that it seems unlikely Tyler will attend given the date.

It doesn't matter whether Day[J] cares or not. It is the decision of EG and its players. It is understandable and not unlikely they won't attend an event sponsored by one of their own sponsors biggest competitor. On the other hand it is equally understandable and likely Red Bull wouldn't want to highlight players with Monster tags all over the place.

Well I don't think Day9 would post "I wouldn't be so sure " if there wasn't an EG guy going.
While what you say is true, I think both Red Bull and Monster realize that having EG guy(s) there is good for both sides. EG players are very popular which brings in viewers which is great for Red Bull. Monster would get their logo on stream in front of tens of thousands of people.
Nos sponsors MLG and the Monster logo has been on stage quite a bit there. Sure there are conflicts, but companies often overlook them.

I would think of it as more of "hey guys, a chance to get one of our players with a monster logo on his shoulder to go and steal some camera time that red bull are paying for" And anyway, redbull have naming rights to the entire event, i doubt they'd care if a single monster logo got in. It just seems like a win win situation.
Red bull lan is a really cool and unique event, so glad to see it coming back in full force for 2012. It's great for spectators, but even greater for those lucky enough to get invited.
I'll second the herO plea, he seems like a player that could really benefit from such a boot camp to get him to play in tournaments like he often does on the ladder! I'd also like to see them reinvite white-ra, destiny, and Nony, whom all seemed to really enjoy/benefit from the previous one!

exactly, EG and Monster really wouldn't have a problem with it. Its literally more exposure for them at the cost of Red Bull.

So pumped! Can't wait to see Bomber destroy some players! Even more pumped for Halo since I'm a Halo guy but I love starcraft too so I'll be watching both for sure
ahhhh these are so well produced and always so much fun to watch. A very unique environment that would be hard to recreate otherwise. Reminds me of HSC for some reason.

He lives in Gainesville, which is like 2 hours away
Wow great players so far. Sheth has been on an absolute tear lately cannot wait to see how he can improve and fucking parting is amazing cant believe hes going to be there so excited to see him play some games. Can't wait to see who else is attending I would kill to see Sase or Naniwa in the focus 4.
Great! Plz make incontrol a focus player, he is such a great personality and I think focus players should be people who are interesting to watch but not yet top players already. Maybe we can see them improve through this event!
Is anyone else a bit worried that Sheth--as amazing as he is--is the first choice for a focus profile? Day9's daily with him was very much like pulling teeth. If they don't have a bit more repore this time it was be rough going.
Also, folks hoping for appearances by DeMusliM, Stephano, and NonY are likely to be disappointed since they'll be at Lone Star Clash. I imagine a number of other great players will end up in the 9 remaining slots.
The 1-name-released-at-a-time click-whoring is pretty obnoxious. I wish TL would make a site-policy to control the worst examples of marketing concealed as news.

I think you guys should invite VileIllusion as one of your focus players or at least one of your players. He has really embraced the game and I think he would do very well at this type of thing.
I really like this format, its not about huge prize pool and so on, but more about just supporting the SC2 scene by providing an awesome training platform.
Now everyone who can, subscribe to Day[9] and help support him and e-sports! Keep up the awesome work Day[9] ! Still miss seeing you play in tournaments like you did in BW, but you've made up for it by being the BEST commentator and coach there is in SC2 !!
Day9, help Thorzain with his mid and late-game passivity, lategame multitasking and decision making. (Yes, yes, I know He is way better than I will ever be, but He's my favorite player, and these are the areas I think He isn't as good as He has the potential to be)
When Sheth was originally stated as a part of the Focus 4, I knew I was gonna love this! Now that ThorZain is in there as well, I'm not sure how this could really get much better! The other players I would love to see in the Focus 4 are: IdrA, HuK, Machine, White-Ra, TLO, Destiny, Ret, or Tyler. I really think that if any of them are be added as Focus players, this event will be absolutely incredible! I look forward to seeing who the remaining players are!
Can White-Ra be one of the 4 invitees, He really needs a bootcamp. He streams and practices on ladder and somehow it affects his tournament performance .. He is my favorite player since the beta ... Please try to invite him :D
Sounds awesome. I look forward to watching [and learning!]
I really hope at least one of the "practice-partner-players" is a high level Korean as the players already announced [Sheth and Thorazain] are already some of the best foreigners in the game.
*edit* One from each race I meant! I realize PartinG is a very solid player.
a unit elimination game. have a pro player play on the ladder, and eliminate a unit that he can use for every victory. i'd love to see a terran opening reapers into banshee bc because all the other units have been voted off
It would be cool to have some former BW pros to see how they approach improvement. Maybe Nada? It would also be cool to have a lesser Korean, maybe one of the young players like ZenexLife who I think practices mostly on ladder but has a lot of mechanical skill. Someone like that could gain a lot.
Really exciting stuff. I'll watch it for sure. At this point I find this more interesting than most tournaments.
Looking forward to learning more about Parting, in particular.
I would love to see Idra in the Focus Four. Perhaps it would be a great opportunity for him to overcome some of the mindset issues he's been having in the previous months.

That's an excellent point and I would have to agree with you. He has definitely been suffering from that a lot lately it seems, especially in some of his bigger games. There were at least a few where it looked like he was doing pretty damn incredible and then made a little mistake and instantly shot himself in the foot and left the game. It's been hard to be his fan the last few months. Maybe if he could get some more positive reinforcement and play the games out to their end like we always see happen, he could end up winning some more of his important tourny games. Being in the focus four might help him tremendously!

i would imagine naniwa is already a fantastic player.
the point of the focus groups is to improve, not to show off. i'd imagine Day9 picked the focus players because they have particular issues to address, not because he is biased towards them.
On March 01 2012 12:40 johnnywup wrote: Could we get a statement on why EG players are allowed to attend?
probably because it doesn't really matter. Conflicting sponsors happen all the time. Look at NASCAR. Coca Cola sponsors a race but Jeff Gordon, who is sponsored by Pepsi still gets to race in it.
Red Bull knows by having EG players come in, more people will watch. More people watching is only good for Red Bull. EG knows by sending their players to this LAN, not only will they get great practice, but their sponsors, including Monster will be on the stream.
MLG is sponsored by NOS, yet we still see that Monster logo on stage a good bit at the tournament. Why? Because its actually beneficial to all.
I do have one big suggestion: Last time you had to communicate with players via typing and just the commentators were able to talk during the games. It would make for a much more interesting production if you had the ability to bring the players in and out of the conversation during the games via a voice coms program or something.

AMD sponsors Dreamhack, so they should deny all Intel sponsored players.

Classic how this is even being discussed. Where as its named the Red Bull lan the EG players can still wear their shirts. Giving publicity to their sponsors. Its a place for them to improve their game and have a unique practice environment.

im saying how EG is sponsored by monster, at a redbull LAN. doesnt have to do with the players. we're not talking about skill at all here. and btw sheth can't "easily" take both out, he can sometimes, but not "easily".

Difference here with the sponsorship conflicts. Soundblaster would have been actually sponsoring him on SOTG. Redbull is just hosting the event, and not sponsoring people that are there.

You should try a dictionary, that's definitely not sarcasm.
Wow nice to see PartinG finally getting some attention ^_^ I hope that Radbull invite some of the ladder Heroes e.g. EmpireKas it would be nice to get into the mind of some of these mass gamers. Thank you Red Bull for this obviously awesome event!
As a suggestion for challenges how about a lot of late game PvZ matches.
Have 1 protoss player against a variety of zerg players where the players are aiming for the late game and neither try to all in or end it early. Then the zerg always gets broodlord infestor and the protoss tries a variety of tactics that do not rely on a mothership. Spread out void rays with waves of phoenix to pick up infestors, templar in warp prisms, carriers?
I love the idea of funday monday with the pros, how about heavy use of hallucinate or mass ravens?
Also I remember reading an article by Day 9 on the marginal advantage, it would be interesting to explore this concept further, particularly with thorzain as one of the focus players.
For example being able to defend every form of early aggression, all in or timing attack while gradually and consistently extending a lead.
Also as an open question, why do you think many risky or greedy strategies are still showing success?
I really want to see protoss's work on taking a third in pvz. I love 2 base allins as much as the next guy but I really want to start taking a third and seeing the pros work that out.
Is there anyway to attend the lan? I live in Tampa, which is about an hour away from Orlando, and would love to attend since this is happening during my spring break. I checked the site and it still has 2011 information on it, nothing updated so far it seems. Does anyone know any information that could help?

This is less of a tourney and more so a boot camp. I don't think they allowed specators last time, so I doubt they will this time. It's set up to be a focused training enviroment leading into the next MLG Tourney.

I really hope that isn't the case, if it is what is the point of even holding the event in Orlando and flying in players when it can all be coordinated online?
Man I hope the last of the special four is a protoss, personally I play zerg but its just so awesome watching protoss games. Grubby or Mana would be so damn awesome! Love the list thus far though, need more variaty for the training team. Some terrans like Kas or Happy and some zerg like Bly or Nerchio just my 2c.
I was wondering why it's four players being focused on, why not just three? One player for each race. Right now there isn't even a protoss player mentioned in the focus four, and if there isn't a protoss player i will be very dissapointed. Also could each of the focus players hold mini lessons on certain tactics they like using and why the work and how best to execute them?
The Red Bull LAN will be open free of charge to Full Sail students and the general public during the following times: 5:30 p.m. ET - 12:00 a.m. ET (in conjunction with the stream times).
The venue will hold ~390 spectators.
If you have any questions, needs or requests please PM me. We're building this event for the community and the pros that we all love!

I'd imagine it's a lot easier to discuss things in person, rather than online, and especially with a group. Also, it gives some of the Europeans a chance to get to the States and adjusted before the tournament.

Oh man, I can't wait to watch this and hopefully pick up some awesome zerg strats beside the usual infestor/BL. Also can't wait to see what the pros have to say and watch them improve their gameplay!
IdrA and Demuslim should be at this LAN (if you even want to call it that due to Blizzard not putting in LAN support). That leaves two more spots which I'd say should go to Polt and Stephano.
I like the idea about putting idra in as the role of practise partner for the actual focused players, I'm sure he would agree on that, being the helpful good hearted guy that he is xD

What about puma and JYP? mmhmmhm? And yes i understand he's joking :D
With prime winning last night, MKP is free for the next two weekends! He should be invited to this now too as training before heading to columbus the following week!
sooo muuuch protoss :O hope there will be more terran in this humpdybumpdy (i was told that's a word, iam however not sure how to type it ^-^) iam still secretly hoping for demuslim or drewbie to show up on the list :x
@Dujek: Morrow plays TvZ instead of ZvZ, that's why
Are people allowed to stop by and watch things. I want to drive over to orlando and see everything, but that is 2 hour drive and I don't want to pay for gas for nothing Q_Q
It's funny, I'd have preferred the Koreans and say Morrow as the focus 4.
The way I understand it, this is meant to be a good way for us as fans to learn about the players in new ways. I don't know a damned thing about Puma JYP and Parting, while the focus 4 seem to be relatively known (aside from maybe Hasuobs, though I understand I'm living under a rock). Not at all disappointed by the choices, and the more different things SC2 pros are doing the happier I am. I just think it's interesting that people tend to want to see their favorites in the spotlight over and over again. Sheth's probably my favorite player, but I get to know him in other ways, and don't think I personally need a focus on him.
I don't mean these as critiques, far from it. It's very possible I simply don't know enough about the event. I'm excited in general, and just find it interesting how people think differently about stuff like this.

While I agree with you re: the Koreans, especially since I really would love to know more about Parting, JYP and Puma, I doubt they would be very good for a lot of 'screen time'. I hope we do get some insight into their personalities etc during the event though. Be great to attach some personalities to the players I cheer for.
While I would've wanted Sase and Morrow to be part of The Focus 4 since they're hidden gems that havn't won anything major yet still are extremely good players.
It would've been even more awesome if Idra was there!
Idra wouldn't go to that, cause he doesn't want to show his practice stuff before a big Tournament. He doesn't want to participate in the EG practice that they boradcast, said yesterday on his Stream Q&A
I think the Focus 4 choices are all great. I'm interrestred in who canceld the trip spontaniously
I have to say the chosen focus 4 players are perfect!
They all are nice and interesting personalities, communicative and speak english very fluently. They also don't get as much attention as some other players (TLO, Naniwa, Stephano,...).
On March 14 2012 07:00 Kznn wrote: hmmm I don't really like the hasu choice, I would prefer even morrow on the focus players. But whatever, it will be amazing anyway.
Why? It was clear, that the 4th player would be a protoss and Hasu makes perfect sense. He alone will draw a good chunk of viewers from Germany, because he is probably the best received player by the community here. This has a couple of reasons:
- is the captain of THE german esport flagship Mousesports (especially CS and SCII) - has an awesome personality (very well mannered, modest, honest and eloquent) - speaks extreme good english - one of the best player-casters in the whole scene (HSC III and IV plus some ESL events) - plays a very clean and refined style, which makes him one of the best protoss players you can learn from
For some reason (maybe because he doesn´t stream), he is pretty unknown and underrated outside of Europe, even though he did very well in the NASL.
I think this is a really good opportunity for people from NA to learn how awesome Hasu is ;D
"Thanks for that information. I requested an update from PR and here is what they have provided.
Red Bull has a very limited amount of seats in the venue. Those would be the only seats, if any available, would be open to the general public. Again, these seats are EXTREMELY limited and would be distributed by Red Bull. I would say if you were a non-Full Sail student and wanted to attend, be there VERY early to try and get a seat. As soon as those limited seats are filled, guests without a Full Sail ID will not be admitted."
"Sean Plott @day9tv Delighted to announce vileIllusion will be joining us for the @redbullGAMING LAN! #RBLAN" :D Very cool, nice to see Illusion getting attention.
Those manner mules sure offended a lot of people. I thought they were pretty awesome. Illusion made Hasu look like a scrub. (obviously, not much to read out of 2 games though!) Good practice all around.

Just look forward to the part where he trys that shit on Parting. trololololol
Glad to see Hasuobs added. Easily one of my favorite players! He's secretly also one of the greatest casters as well, just watch any of the games he casted at HomeStory.
ppl that shit on hasu should watch his results more closely and not the 1 current loss against illusion... some guys are rly naive. hes a rly strong player, especially on phases where he focuses on playing for a certain tournament.
he studies and has a girlfriend, thats why he sometimes doesnt play his best

If they know what is coming can't they just blind counter? How can they practice with it if they know what's coming? LIke sheth vs Air Toss into 3 base Toss .. just open 4 queen/roach/evo

The same way players normally practice when they aren't being streamed. They don't want to blind counter something for the sake of winning a game at Red Bull LAN, they want to develop a way to defend against something with as few adjustments and deviations from their "standard" builds as possible that they could use in any other game based on what they scout.

These red bull lans have been going on for awhile. The point of it isn't a tournament, it's to get a bunch of pros together to train and focus on an upcoming tournament.
Sounds pretty neat imo, something different than tournament x dominated by koreans.

On March 16 2012 22:34 NeWeNiyaLord wrote: So I have to ask because I suck at understanding this ! Is this also a tournament? Is it prize money involved?
No, there's no competition. (oh, there's competition on the last day, I stand corrected) It's a training camp. Pairs of progamers play games, Day[9] commentates and writes to them in chat, telling each one what to improve on the go; after they finish, they play again. WhiteRa was known for playing many games in a row with anyone he faced, wanting to improve further and further. He and Bomber were a really interesting pair, because both didn't get tired.
If you ever wondered how training looks like in a serious progaming house, that would be the closest we get to see from inside, with proper analysis and observing.
If you only care about winners and losers, thisthe first days might be a bore for you; if you care about understanding SC2 it should be tons of interesting and to remember for a long time.
P.S. edited, after seeing this part: "The final day will culminate in a mini-tournament to crown the best of the Red Bull LAN: Orlando." which I missed; but my point mostly stands that the main aspect of this event isn't competition, just training. Don't know if that sounds fun - probably not - but trust me, it actually is more fun than a tournament, not to miss in any case.
my contribution to this, a recipe : take a Whiskey glass and a shot glass, pour Jagermesiter in the shot glass and put it into the Whiskey glass, fill that glass now with Red Bull to the level it barely doesnt pass the mouth of the shot glass. All-in Cheers!

As far as I can tell, there will be reserved parking for the event directly in front of the venue (which can be located using Google Maps). I spoke with some of the security personnel last night about the event, and from what they said, spectators are welcome to enter and leave the event any time after 5:30 PM on each day, provided it is not at capacity. Also, it seems like the parking will be both free and abundant.
Also, it looks like StormD took the initiative of setting up a failsafe at a Wing House within walking distance of the venue, if the event reaches capacity. Check this thread for details. I cannot vouch for the Wing House event, because I am not involved with it, but I am hoping that it's a serious post.

I'm glad. Not inviting players due to sponsors sets a dangerous precedent. I would hate to see e-sports turn into a Steelseries vs. Razer or Intel vs AMD or something like that.
Would like to know how many people are lining up to get in and how early. I will be going tomorrow because I work today, wanna know how early to show up.

well when it was announced EG made a joke on twitter saying something like they were sending them to the Monster gaming lan. Glad to see that the sponsors of EG and redbull can get along though so that EG can benefit from the lan.

Ah, how did I miss this... as a ThorZaIN fan, it would be heresy to go to sleep now then. Time for a midnight 355ml Red Bull shot and a Red Bull stream... when it starts working.

I'm in the same boat, it really seems like a really bad choice not to enable lower qualities. Seems like a major oversight to me. Hope this changes, but for now no stream for me.
Yeah seems to be very different opinions on the stream, from my end it is among the better once I have seen. Perfect quality and runs without a hick up so far.

Better to fix the problem now though. Plus is everyone starts doing it he could blind counter.
im thinking that maybe sheth is over-analyzing stuff, and trying too hard to counter the protoss with the "correct" units. i mean we've seen zerg max out at 12:00 minutes with just roach/ling, and at that point the protoss only has around 100-110 supply with this opening and 3 bases to defend. why not just go and cram that roach/ling army down the protoss' throat, 1 void ray isnt gonna help with that. we've seen stephano do it time and again for instance, i also remember seeing nestea doing it to parting in some qualifier a few weeks ago (think it was mlg qualy, antiga map). you will most probably kill the third (which will leave you in a great position), or even better kill the protoss outright.

1) I think Morrow was told not to rush to Hive. But, Morrow may have taken that to mean "no hive ever." So I'm hoping they've clarified what they meant with Morrow.
2) Far as I know he's allowed to spread out his overlords, because overlord spread would be something that Thorzain would need to practice against. Not sure if its something he regularly does or not.

Yeah I think Morrow took 'no rush to hive' to mean never get it.
I'm glad the Bx Monobattle maps (as introduced by TotalBiscuit in the Pro Monobattle Tournament recently) are finally catching on. Wish people wanting to play random monobattles on bnet would actually pick these maps more often. :o}
EDIT: What? Only a single monobattle game? What a shame...

There is a tournament, though. I don't see the point of those players being there if there isn't a prize to the tournament? o_O
They get airfare and room. They also get some air time, which would help with their fan base. And since MLG is next weekend, they might find it a bonus to not be jet lagged as when they fly in the night before (assuming 5 days of hotel is cheaper than a two way flight to Sweden/Korea).
The Vods were working fine, but when they updated the site they removed link to switch the video from Halo to SC, so now all we can select is Halo vods. ARG!
Someone messed up bigtime. I'm trying to see if I can figure out the link from their server...
Wish there was free red bull at the event. It's $2.75 other than that it's great though. Day9 staying late like a boss so every fan gets face time with him. Definition of awesome.

It's free to get in as a spectator, even for the general public. I agree that the clarification for this has been seriously lacking, as far as I've seen. Hopefully this clears it up: I attended the event today as "general public" and was issued a black Red Bull arm band at no cost. Anyone who was hesitating to come out should definitely just make the trip out to the event, as the entire event is free and the production quality today was pretty nice, aside from occasional audio feedback or low volume/muted speakers. (Sometimes Day9 and djWHEAT couldn't be heard at the venue, though I am not sure if it was also like that on the stream).

Day9 never seems to fail his fans. I have appreciated this both times that I have had the chance to meet him. Like Sheth, he spills perfect manner all over the place. <3
Do we get the replays at some point? I want to copy Thorzains TvZ build. Sometimes his unit movement and decision making is a bit off during the midgame, but man, his builds are always fantastic.

When I went to Full Sail it was very Monster-centric so this kinda makes sense. They would have the monster truck (not a monster truck, but like, a truck from the monster company) come around every so often just tossing out free monster to the students/staff. I assume there was some agreement where the Monster truck wouldn't come around, but Red Bull couldn't be handed out for free.
Really enjoyed the parts of day 1 I watched, very fun, and very smart. I think we should be able to have the players mic'd between games though, at one point JYP was explaining something to Sheth about their games and I'd love to know what that was.
I'd also love to see a third caster for each game, that caster being a player. Wheat and Day9 are great, but I'd love to hear a player explain a bit about what the focus player is doing at x point, or what the practice partner is trying to do at this time. Maybe a little bit of replay analysis of a game where the focus player handled his challenge particularly well would be interesting too.
I just watch the thorzain vs ret game and I'm surprized day9 said ret gg'ed early, he couldn't stop thorzains atack to the third, which was his last mining base and Thorzain had a 3r and a 4rd, but day9&rob keept insisting ret was ahead cos he had more drones, I don't understand it.
It's really worth coming out to. I had gone last night by myself and quickly found myself at home with around six people. The event was really fun, besides the occasional corner for the Halo Tournament.. They were screaming their heads off about 1/2 of the night.
Besides that, it's FREE and spectators can enter that aren't students. I was told by the staff via phone that day that nobody that isn't a student can enter, but that's souly because of the failure of communication between the venue and the sponsors.

Yeah Day [9] just said some Zergs think Dual sight is protoss favoured, I haven't heard anyone say that before.
Yes but you said "who thinks this map is zerg favoured?". And I haven't heard anyone say that map is protoss favoured either. o_O
I got up early and I accidentally mistyped Zerg since I heard the word zerg on stream as I was typing lol I shall not edit my original post to keep this funny exchange alive.

Long time visitor, first time poster. I work for GameZone.com as their eSports Correspondent and am here reporting on the Red Bull LAN. I've gotten a few interviews I thought you guys might be interested in seeing with Sheth, Day[9] and djWheat. I have to transcribe the latter 2 but for now, here's the Sheth interview. Let me know what you guys think, I know it was short - the Day9 and djWheat ones took about 30 mins each so they're much longer and much more informative :D
I wanted to say the interviews in this are absolutely amazing. I've never seen such good questions asked in interviews and such good and honest answers too. Keep up the good work Also, ofc the whole even is amazing and I love the idea.
nani the dirty boy hasu request another 4gate for the training match and nani just proxygates him sooo rude! wheres the sence with that he dont need to get the win its about practice why would he do that?
also, trying to hold a 4 gate with a build is one thing trying to hold proxy gates is another. Its the kind of thing that makes you throw your build out the window and do something completely different to defend. :/ not very worth it to even bother trying to play vs proxy gates to test your build >.<
In naniwa's defense, to give him the benefit of the doubt, there is the possibility that he was simply being conscious of the time. Also, an extra practice game against a 4 gate is not going to help him as much as not forgetting to scout a proxy 2 gate.

Was at the event, after this match was over it looked like Sean had a few key discussions with NaNiwa, ending with NaNiwa not looking too pleased.....

Naniwa has a history of making decisions that waste his, his fans, and his organizer's time. Maybe he thinks he's being cute.

I believe this picture is relevant. I felt inclined to walk over and snap a photo of this cheese unfolding:
It was quite an unfortunate game for HasuObs, though seeing the single Stalker try to turn the game around was interesting.

Why guess when we don't know. Im quite sure alot of players when they train want their training partner to throw in cheese from time to time. Since thats the only way to train on defending and detecting cheese.

Well the guy who died was the owner of the company who created red bull (in its thai form), he then partnered with the Austrian business man and they then developed the product further into the worldwide success it is today.
I am actually disappointed. Out of the ten announced players there are 2 terrans , 3 zergs and 5 protosses. The games on stream has been a galore of ZvP and PvP. It would have been nice to have some more variation. As a terran player i dont give a crap about ZvP or PvP. If they have such an imbalance when it comes to race distribution it would be better if they made sure that there also was some vs T focus in the "challenges" for the 4 featured players.
HasuObs focused on PvP Ret and Sheth focused on ZvP Thorzain focused on TvZ
Given that terran players outside of korea have huge difficulties with consistent performance in major tournaments it would be much more interesting to let a few more terrans participate with some TvP and TvZ focus.

Forcing someone to focus on something else than they desire for interest kind of destroys the point of the whole deal. There is always the GSL if you wish to see TvX

As a STARCRAFT player, maybe you should give a crap about the rest? Or perhaps realize that this event was not created for mr. One-one-one, but for everyone, especially the players attending. The world of starcraft does not revolve around you, young terran player.

It was super cool all throughout but i wanted a little more heat in the audience in the tourney part... there was such an awesome venue all prepared and it felt a little audience-empty
don´t know why but i felt that it saddened the whole thing
