Remember this industry is still very, very young. Going PPV may end up doing far more harm than good. Remember CGS? No one wants that to happen again.

However, that I have to pay full price for a special tournament, not even get the slightest bonus for already paying for MLG every month, is just a pure ripoff and as like everyone in this thread before me stated already: They might get away with that on a weekend where there's nothing else going on, but not when big competition like Assembly is online aswell. I seriously hope that they are doing this just to "tryout" how far they can squeeze the money cow. And learn from it.

Paying for a tournament that will end up cutting off 90% of it's viewers is not supporting esports. I want more people to watch Starcraft, not less. Well said, I totally agree. I dont see how esports would benefit from reducing the viewership by 90%, even if MLG makes a profit of it. "Growing esports" means not only sc2, but the whole scene. What happens to esports if every major tournament of every game adopts this concept, charging 20$ for a weekend? Will ESPORTS grow?

The other competing leagues (NASL/IPL) will be happy, But the ppl who will suffer will be the ones that love attending MLG's. meh who cares SC2 Scene is already over saturated, it's about time one of the leagues will fall off or drop SC2.

A tourney with only 5-10k viewers has nowhere near the legitimacy or importance than a tournament with 50k+++ viewers. No matter the pricepool or anything else.

I am organizing a Barcraft in Hamburg, Germany. We are not charging money for this stuff (and never want to) and the Bar does it for free, but now turns out that we (the organizers) have to spend 20$ to make this event available, while this is not that much money for us I really think that this will not really help Barcraft (even though MLG seems to approve Barcrafts and suggests to attend one if someone does not want to spend the money) in general. I also agree that it is a bit unfair to create a certain hype and now (while most Barcrafts are already organized) to give out this news. We will show this stuff now anyway but i am not sure if I could decide next time if I want to show assembly or MLG at a Barcraft how the outcome would be. This also raises a concert about hot they will deal with Barcrafts in the near future because here in Germany it is MUCH more expensive to show PPV Events (e.g. soccer) in a public spot and i do not really like the idea to get into this stuff at this early stage of E-Sports. I am not a MLG Gold member but i absolutely do not get why they are not giving out discounts because this might have let some people to get Gold passes. Do not get me wrong i am a huge fan of MLG and the MLG Barcraft we did last time was absolutely awesome but the direction where this seems to lead is not got for MLG or SC2 or the community in general.

Everyone who buys the 20dollar pass is just telling mlg indirectly "Hey guys you can do that. you can take 20 bucks for a qualifier. " they dont care if you dont like it as long as you pay. so if you dont want the future with every big event (not just MLG) beeing 20dollar PPV, than buy it. if this mlg arena with 20dollar is a success then every other major event will think about making their event ppv aswell. well i think the idea of this was: now nobody will complain about the extended series anymore! :D
