why get all worked up when the lesson learned is that scheduling and forfeiting (as separate issues) have shown themselves as significant enough to maybe include them in future tournament regulations. having some sort of guideline would possibly benefit organizers, players and viewers.

this time stephano took home the cake by forfeiting a spotlight final. would it have been an issue with a 100$ weekly cup? or a 250$, 500$, 1000$? who will exactly draw a line, and where? is round of 32 still "ok" and round of 16 not? will you decide for everyone? or are we fine with a wild west of different tournaments winging the decision? or do we apply a zero-tolerance rule? the nature and extent of such rules could and should be open to discussion.

Spoilers are spoiling esports~ Not just for player recognition but also for team and sponsor exposure, im sure tl or eg or any team would have a big company description and sponsor pluggin with the pic of the champion. Most of the people who are actually against spoilers are probably smart enough themselves just to go visit gom or said youtube channel to spot vods and anyways most vods if delayed a few days you eventually get spoiled by the community eventually. just my 2 cents keep up the good work even if this is somewhat of a lameduck issue its not tl's fault nor would it have been the fault of the random community member posting a thread about it because im sure if tl didnt make a post someone else would have!

I think its more up to the players these aren't big tournaments (are they?). I mean for something like IEM and MLG i wouldn't expect them to have a tournament on the same week. But its difficult if these are smaller LAN's to try to accommodate everybody. Why should the tournament have to change if it picked this date months in advance but another tournament just happen to appear around the same time? I understand that SC2 pro's need the money since it is their job. But just like a business meeting you don't set up the times to overlap because you can't be in 2 places at once.
Plays against every MU with nexus first.

Lesson learned for invite tournaments I think, just don't invite Stephano. No tournament should invite a player that has a chance to put the tournament in jeopardy. ONOG handled it pretty well but these things should never happen in the first place, so you have to root out the source of the problem.

LOL @ people blaming the organizers. They don't plan their whole tournament schedule around one player. The fact they've delayed his match knowing he would be late is sign of understanding and good jesture. If a player sign up for a tournament, it is his responsibility to show up. Yes, he has the right to forfeit, but don't come out saying the reason is he was too tired to play. It shows lack of professionalism and lack of respect for the tournament. All this does is shine a negative spotlight on him.

I don't think you understand value of a talented 'heel' for publicity.

This is just like the Naniwa situation except instead of probe rushing, he doens't do anything at all. I think it's quite unprofessional and his claim that the games wouldn't have been good either is unprofessional.

I don't really care, and neither should anybody else. It was just a simple mishap with his schedule. A game lasted too long or he got stuck in traffic. Something simple could have happened.
He's not fucking forced to play in any tournaments. He could have even forfeited just because "he felt like it". It doesn't represent Millenium that well, but its his choice.

After seeing all of these incident unfold it really makes me hope for starcraft to have a more professional sports feel to it, i bet if the players had a players union and the team managers where together less of this type of stuff would happen.. or maybe fines?

I don't see a problem with any of this.

He didn't want to play and forfeited, they knocked him out of the money for it. The fans got to see semis and a final. Nobody should have a problem with this except for maybe Stephano, but since he basically disqualified himself im sure he's not complaining much about it.

Bolded the part I want to elaborate/discuss futher. I think we all agree that forfeiting (given there are not any uncontrollable circumstances that's out of the players position to do anything about) is unacceptable in any kind of tournament and stage of the tournament. But players of Stephano's caliber and the size of the tournament (in terms of prize pool, player pool and reputation) will always, and should, influence what's debated. By discussing issues like this will bring forth some sort of consensus in the community and by tournament organizers.

This incident is pretty unique, although it shouldn't be treated as if it is some kind of vacuum, since they posponed Stephano's match against VileIllusion - where most tournaments DQ the players and this incident wouldn't occur. I got the feeling that most of the major tournaments have implemented alot of the same rules - so their decision will generally be the same. But I think it's noteworthy to discuss this issue regarding smaller tournaments. I think they make decisions that benefits their organization the most - their viewership. Most of these tournaments don't have the same safety net, in terms of viewership and money, as the major ones with sponsors behind their back.

This entire thing is blown way out of proportion. I guess the sc2 scene loves some drama but seriously.. It was like 2 am for Stephano and when the organizers couldn't reschedule he had to give his spot up, the tournament finished fine.

Well just because the tourney organizers "care" about the fans it doesn't mean that Stephano had to agree to stay up late and play vs a beast like kas since he felt tired. So the only punishment that he can expect for his decision is from his team, if any at all. I'm pretty sure he already knew that he wouldn't get 2nd place when he forfeited.

This is why you don't double book on tournaments. It's Stephano's fault for trying to do both and being unable to do so. ONOG tried to negotiate for a win win situation but it didn't work out. So Stephano loses out on money. End story.

There was a lot of French bashing that went on because of Stephano's FF.
