That's crazy. Kinda feel bad for oGs, is SK looking to start getting more involved in sc2? I mean, you'd have to assume the answer to that question is yes grabbing MC like that

Noooo, MC...T_T He's like the face of oGS. Guess oGs will have to rely primarily on the success of ForGG to propel them in team leagues.

wtf? that was unexpected.

but i already had a feeling like mc was focusing more on international events than on gsl recently. no way in hell players like mvp or nestea would have risked their gsl life for something like the homestory cup.

for SK, it seems to me to be a good move. they get one of the best players in the world who is incredibly popular with foreign fans and will generate lots of attention for their whole sc2 division.

for MC himself, however, i think this is a bad idea. the loss of practice partners in the ogs house will hurt him badly in the long run.

Out of all foreign teams, did it really have to be SK? They have no players

I guess we're going to see new announcements from SK during the next week. They're probably picking up SangHo?

Who...cares? If the Korean players want to poo poo on the foreign scene, fine. Stay in Korea where there isn't nearly as much money in SC2 as there is in the foreign scene. Why do you think players like MC are putting so much focus on out of Korea tournaments? Because the money is there, and it's easier to come by then by playing in a month long tournament who's prize pool isn't really that big.

very shortsighted assessment. as much as I am a BW elitist, I recognise that the day will come when proleague teams pick up sc2 divisions. it may be as big as BW, it may not be...

but there is more money to be made in this crowd

And here I was hoping oGs-tl was going to win the GSTL this season, oh well. I wonder if we will hear a bunch of koreans complaing about MC accepting "dirty money" like they always insult the foreigner players for doing.

It says in the OP he's leaving the team house and will start living on his own.

Doesn't say anything about his practice regimen or losing practice partners though.

Of course people will play with him, that's pretty obvious. But living in a team house means a stricter practice regimen, and constant SC2 strategy/build/timing/macro/etc discussion, while it also has the advantage of a coach.

Even if people from oGs still practice with him, it's not the same, it's detrimental to practice. He might soon dissapear from the GSL if he and SK don't have something special prepared. Which is why I think it's a shortsighted move, or MC is aiming for something other than the GSL.

That's jumping to conclusion though based on guesses. You don't know yet what his practice regimen will look like, for all we know SK could rent a spot at one of the pro houses for him to practice at. You also don't know what his practice was like inside the house. People always assumed HuK learned tons of 'sitting next to MC' when in fact they helped each other out only on a few occasions during HuKs time in the oGs house. Stop assuming things.

I agree. It's pretty indisputable that the team house environment is highly productive but not every player needs or can handle that living condition. We've already seen a few Korean players leave Korean teams because they don't want the practice house environment. Playing/talking/thinking about SC2 12+ hours a day can cause burnout and ultimately a lack of motivation and decline in performance. And yes, everyone assumed HuK was getting better because he had oGs protoss to help him but in reality he had very little help from the Koreans earlier. I think its safe to say this is a huge change for MC but we don't know yet if it will be good or bad.

On the flipside, koreans who have left the team house practice regimen have either dissapeared into near oblivion, or noticeably dropped their playing level, or slowed down on their progression.

Someone else in this thread mentioned that both MVP and NesTea live outside the team house. Not sure if that's true but if it is... MVP and NesTea are the two best players in the world. No question.

Yeah but they never entered the system in the first place, they're an anomaly. There's really no other really successful players who are even code S that don't live in a team house.

Nada, Zenio. But yeah, it's hard. It seems especially hard for someone who based his play off his practice in the team house (rather than insane laddering or other practice methods).

Nada and Zenio can hardly be called successful at this point.

Yea, code S is hardly successful... just be quiet, seriously. How shortsighted of a statement is that.

As someone stated before, it's a logical decision for MC since he really wants to continue to attend foreign tournaments. The sad part however is that while he won't instantly get worse, I think being removed from the oGs house's practice evironment will severely hurt the effectiveness of his practice and lastly his skill level. It's a good decision for someone who wants to partake in as many tournaments as possible for boosting one's income and exposure, but a bad one for someone who wants to continue to grow as a player.
