Holy shit this is shocking. Guess MC wanted to get out of the team house and live by himself, which is respectable.

Good luck MC! You're an asshole for beating Leenock but I still love you <3

Going to all foreign tournaments means no GSL appearances. Quite simply, it means he gave up on competing against mostly Koreans.

So is team house training overrated? Seems like even the koreans can't stand living in the small confined spaces for too long anymore. :D

As far as training goes, it's clearly not overrated. Only people with results without living in a team house are NesTea and MVP, and such thing has never happened in BW since they got established. Team houses produce the best players and thus the best results.

If MC wants something other than results, I guess it's fine.

The best part of that was how you said the only people with results without living in a team house are NesTea and MVP, just the two top players in the world right now. Obviously this shows that yes on average living in a team house produces better results but once in a while you can still see players thrive outside of that environment.

Anyway good luck to MC!

A bit of a shocker to me, but my favorite player having a team all to himself seems strangely appropriate. Best of luck to you, MC! Fighting.

kind of a weird move :\ didn't see it coming...and i hope he doesn't turn up like the mc we had months ago where he could hardly win in Code A due to no practice

Whattttttt?! I have no idea what to think. Never would have expected this. MC is what I think of first when I hear oGs. Now the partnership is ending too? I'm not happy with it, but I respect MC's decision and wish him the best.

so disappoint...

Just? it is THE e-sport team....

you must be joking. SKT1 is the most established esport team around.

I'll bet my left nut that SK-Gaming is more established and successful than SKT1. And how can they be more established than SK-Gaming? SKT1 focuses only on one game, while SK-Gaming don't have their focus on only one game (even though they might prioritize for instance CS1.6 more back in the days). Just look at SK's history in terms of tournament results http://www.sk-gaming.com/awards/ . Both teams are legends in their own respect, but SK have had more infuence and presence world wide - which imo should overweight SKT1 who only attends at domestic tournaments.

Edit: I didn't see this coming. I hope MC will still be living in the oGs house for practice - though it wouldn't suprice me if he isn't. MC fighting!

I'd say being funded by a multi national telecommunication provider trumps everything.

While SK is an internationally recognized team and are known for signing big name players in the past. SK Telecom started with BoxeR. The amount of money for that deal was unheard of at the time as SK Telecom wanted to compete with the likes of the powerhouse KTF Forever.

What you are doing is comparing two different markets. International recognition to that of Korean recognition. Both are big and influential for their own reasons.

SKT1 have a ridiculous following. They have a ton of fans inside and outside of Korea.

KT, SKT1 and CJ are the biggest teams inside Korea. Their following outside of Korea is pretty impressive as well considering they rely on re-streams because all their events are televised.

SK burnt the Korean bridge, I feel that Koreans are tired of getting there players poached. GL to MC it was his choice.

You can't fault someone for making more $$ if the market is going to pay them that...

Sure, thing is, if because of this he loses the practice regimen, the team house, the practice partners, and his play starts to fade away, in the long run, he'll get less money. It's shortsighted, maybe he wants to retire soon and do something else.

Where did you get all this info on his new practice setup?

It says in the OP he's leaving the team house and will start living on his own.

Doesn't say anything about his practice regimen or losing practice partners though.

Of course people will play with him, that's pretty obvious. But living in a team house means a stricter practice regimen, and constant SC2 strategy/build/timing/macro/etc discussion, while it also has the advantage of a coach.

Even if people from oGs still practice with him, it's not the same, it's detrimental to practice. He might soon dissapear from the GSL if he and SK don't have something special prepared. Which is why I think it's a shortsighted move, or MC is aiming for something other than the GSL.

That's jumping to conclusion though based on guesses. You don't know yet what his practice regimen will look like, for all we know SK could rent a spot at one of the pro houses for him to practice at. You also don't know what his practice was like inside the house. People always assumed HuK learned tons of 'sitting next to MC' when in fact they helped each other out only on a few occasions during HuKs time in the oGs house. Stop assuming things.

I agree. It's pretty indisputable that the team house environment is highly productive but not every player needs or can handle that living condition. We've already seen a few Korean players leave Korean teams because they don't want the practice house environment. Playing/talking/thinking about SC2 12+ hours a day can cause burnout and ultimately a lack of motivation and decline in performance. And yes, everyone assumed HuK was getting better because he had oGs protoss to help him but in reality he had very little help from the Koreans earlier. I think its safe to say this is a huge change for MC but we don't know yet if it will be good or bad.

Wow. 2012 is already looking like a really interesting year indeed.

Best of luck to MC and SK and oGs. I hope MC maintains a good practice regime outside of a practice house. Maybe SK may be getting a full-time team? As far as oGs goes, I think it is time for the rest of the members to step it up now that two of their core veterans (Zenio and MC) have left, though I'm sure that maybe ForGG will pick up the slack.
