Today Evil Geniuses (EG), North America's premier professional gaming team and a world leader in e-Sports, is proud to welcome South Korea native Park "JYP" Jin Young who will represent the Starcraft II team in 2012 in GSL Code-S and international competitions.
A Former teammate of current EG member Lee "PuMa" Ho Joon at Team SCV Life, JYP recently secured a spot in Code-S for Season 1 of GSL 2012. Next week, he will suit up in the EG blue as he departs for Germany to compete at HomeStoryCup IV against some of toughest competition outside of Korea.
Renowned for his strength against Protoss and Zerg players, he boasts a near 70% win percentage against each of those respective races. He most notably defeated HerO, July, and Luvsic during his GSL Up & Down matches. "I'm really happy to be joining EG, whom I consider the number one foreign team. I would like to use this great opportunity to show good results and I hope both the Korean fans and foreign fans would cheer me on," Park remarked.
"We're happy to be able to offer Park the opprotunity to not only compete alongside his longtime practice partner and friend PuMa, but also to travel and showcase his talent around the globe," said Alex Garfield, CEO of Evil Geniuses.
I was guessing it was either him or Killer, one of the players recently parted from TSL, my money put on JYP. This can only mean better things for him and I look forwards to him having more success in a foreign team!
As I said in the other thread it is not that much of a surprise, especially since he was the best teamless player available. It is a great pickup for EG.
I really don't think we needed another thread on it, when the other thread was 150 pages long already, but
Congrats to JYP and EG. Hopefully JYP can solve his vT problems in the SlayerS house. A 14 Loss streak against Terran is going to send him straight out of Code S if he doesn't get around to fixing it.
EG has really put a solid team together. I am really impressed. I dont know whot SirScoots does it but he somehow made EG a power house in the SC2 scene. I would love to see them get into GSTL and expand into their own korea house one day.
It's official, I now hate JYP. Not only did he eliminate HerO out of GSL with a %$^$%&$% pylon in his base, but he now joined Liquid's worst (best?) ennemy...DIE JYP (jkjk) On a more serious note, great pick up for EG, JYP is a great player with a lot of potential, and EG signing him means we'll get to see him in foreign tournaments more often, which can only be good :D
The concentration of talent and skill at the Slayers house is about to become radioactive. The addition of JYP really makes EG's lineup scary, with Idra, Puma and Huk, especially since these players will all be active at foreign events. This becomes even moreso the case since the foreign scene lacks the terran strength that Korea has, making JYP even more dangerous.

HuK and IdrA have done as much as PuMa. Especially in GSL. I don't know how you can call 2 players that have consistently been Code S when they've played in Korea 'mediocre'. Whilst one that hasn't even qualified for Code A yet 'Scary as fuck'.

So much falsehood it makes my brain hurt. Watch Demuslim's stream sometime, just because you don't know he's a great player doesn't mean he isn't. And HuK & Idra are 2 of the few foreigners to ever be in Code S, it's a very small club. Saying they are "mediocre" is pretty ignorant and silly.
Just had a thought on JYP joining EG, does this mean JYP wants to attend foreign events? If he just wanted SlayerS training he'd join SlayerS maybe we're gonna be seeing JYP beat up white doods in the future?

Ok, come on. Ax and Strife both have made it to major events (IEM, ESWC). I'd be more concerned about Machine and LZgamer

Yeah.. I mean i want them to be good. T.T idra and huk fit in because they try so hard and their games are epic and they actually can def stay in code A.

Oh yes. Homestory Cup is up first. With the relative weakness of foreign Terrans, this guy will be scary on the foreign scene.
What is really crazy is the fact that EG now has more Code S players than TSL, Hoseo, and Prime.

I think he's onto something guys.
JYP has always wanted to go to foreign events. TSL just didn't have enough money to send him in front of players like Polt/Alive who had better tournament results than him.
No surprise. JYP is in Code S, close with Puma, and was teamless. Now we will see what happens when the worst PvT in the GSL meets the team with the worst TvP in the GSL.

JYP has the potential to be the best Protoss I've ever seen, but right now all you have to do is send a Terran and he's fucked. Also it's not like he didn't have good TvP practice partners at TSL; Polt is unstoppable in the match-up and Alive is really good at it as well. Slayers' worst match-up is TvP; MMA, Ganzi, Ryung, etc. all struggle against Toss.
Really happy with this, I like JYPs play since like forever. He will grow a lot in the SlayerS house, and I will see him next week in Krefeld. ^_^ Also I just dig the haters tears. <3

Yea maintaining status in the best league in the world is definatly mediocre. To be the best you have to win it though consistently showing up an maintaining that level of status make him far from mediocre man.
EG picks up another great korean so this is good for them, but more importantly I think is the fact that JYP is now on a team that can and will fly him around the world to compete at more tournaments. JYP hwaiting!

Even Idra himself said competition at IEM was meh. IPL was ez mode. he placed ro8 in Code S so long ago the game wasn't even developed enough for their to be a skill difference.... same with HuK's first MLG win.

As for EG being the top foreign team, one could certainly say that, and have very convincing arguments behind it. But Mouz really impressed me in the IPL Team Arena, beating Slayers, colMVP, and Thorzain even all-killed QIM. If only Mouz, Liquid, and EG would all compete in the GSTL...

Even Idra himself said competition at IEM was meh. IPL was ez mode. he placed ro8 in Code S so long ago the game wasn't even developed enough for their to be a skill difference.... same with HuK's first MLG win.
Taking a couple games off top players here and there does not equal being a great player... winning consistently does and neither of them can say that they have.
As I said they are easily some of the best foreign players, but in Korea skill wise they are mediocre....
I love how you completely skip over the tournaments where they had to face strong competition, and focus on the negatives.
I'm done derailing the thread arguing about a statement that is so blatantly either just really ignorant or dumb. Maybe both. Congratz JYP and EG.

HuK and IdrA have done as much as PuMa. Especially in GSL. I don't know how you can call 2 players that have consistently been Code S when they've played in Korea 'mediocre'. Whilst one that hasn't even qualified for Code A yet 'Scary as fuck'.
HuK has done nothing in code S and is currently not in Code S... IdrA was in Code S way back when, we shall see what he can do now....
PuMa has won back to back NASL JYP is in Code S and one of the best up and coming protoss players in Korea....
If Idra makes it out of his group or HuK can make it back into code S I may change my opinion but as of right now I seem them as mediocre in Korea.
IdrA has won IEM, IPL, Assembly, MLG, placed ro8 code S and won a bunch of other tournaments. HuK has won Dreamhack, MLG twice, Homestory placed ro8 code S and won a bunch of other tournaments.

I left them out because yes they did win against good competition, I'm not taking that away from them... As I said they are some of the best foreigners, just merely said they are only mediocre compared to the talent pool in Korea....
And yes Gratz to EG and JYP will be interesting to see if/when he comes to MLG's etc.

I actually completely agree with the guy that said Idra and Huk are mediocre by Korean standards. Get your definitions straight. They key here is "in Korea" or by korean standards. If they're not mediocre, what are they? Are they on the level of top korean pros, such as MVP, Nestea, MMA, MC, Leenock, DRG and Foxer? Or maybe you call top level all of the players in the GSL? Because I don't. I call the best players in the GSL top players, the medium level mediocre players, and the lower level low level. I don't think anyone but their biggest and most blind fans would say that they are on the level of top korean pros (my definition), as they clearly are not.
Their results are also such of typical mediocre korean pros - What does Idra have accomplished in the Korean scene? One Ro8 a long time ago is the best I can think of. And Huk? A Ro8 again, plus a few of seasons in which he did not fall off of Code S. Clide didn't fall out of Code S for many many seasons, is he a top korean pro? I don't think so. You can call Huk consistent in GSL, but you cannot call him anything more than a mediocre performer by korean standards.

Yea he was and IS still mediocre in Korea.... in Code S? No, did he do anything special while he was in Code S? No he is mediocre...
Sounds harsh, especially seeing as I am a big HuK fan but he is nowhere near top tier in Korea.
Yea maintaining status in the best league in the world is definatly mediocre. To be the best you have to win it though consistently showing up an maintaining that level of status make him far from mediocre man.
To be fair Huk was one of the worst players in Code S. Hell, he didn't even qualify for Code A, he was given a spot. Any foreigner is going to be one of the worst players in Code S and probably Code A-- idra might do well because his zvt is very good.

But as I said, I like the cocky style from EG. It goes with their image.
The world leadership can be debated from several angles, considering many feel that teams in general are maybe the weakest link in the whole esport scene 2011. That EG feels that their team is strong enough to be a world leader within esports is interesting and hopefully more than just a slogan.

I think eg is going to end up with an all korean super start lineup- they have puma, now jyp- all they need is a zerg now! Wonder who its gonna be... gratz to JYP for the HUGE oppurtunity
Only player I've seen constantly switching teams, is Naniwa. Other than that, I haven't seen anyone being in more than 2 teams (which is fine, 1 up and coming team, then get signed by a big team).
On the other hand, EG is a market powerhouse in USA and perhaps in Europe as well. And they tend to pick up and coming players, like Puma, when he was signed, he wasn't so hot, and now he's awesome. JYP is quite good, but he hasn't shown any results (yet). He will, no doubt, now that he has so much support from EG.

Yeah, he is not gonna be like someone from different cartoon, while visiting EG house in Arizona
are we reaching the point where foreign players will no longer be picked up by foreign teams? Seems like everyone is just going after the koreans now. Seems like another step toward koreans playing on a completely different level than foreigns, just like brood war

HuK and Idra are mediocre in Korea(Both top foreigners though...) Demuslim haven't seen enough of really, though from what I've seen ehhh mid tier foreigner. JYP Scary as fuck PuMa Scary as fuck
Both have taken down some of the best players in the world. The likes of MC, Bomber and NesTea.
How is that mediocre? Some people.
Yeah, HuK was the first Foreigner to win against the Koreans in a major tournament. He is the only player to win two MLGs, and is the first Foreigner to take an MLG when the Koreans arrived. But those two tournaments do not match up to EVERY KOREANS achievement.
You can nitpick about him losing and you can show other Koreans that have better results then him, but he is one of the best Protoss players in the world, and can take series off of top name Koreans constantly.

Once again, a large chunk of the recent games HuK has played against HerO he has won. MLG Hero cheesed him both times, and I am pretty sure, do not quote me on this, HuK's last tournament he played against HerO he beat him too.

Cocky a la EG
EG is over a decade old, has numerous large corporate sponsors, and has top players across multiple esport titles, what else would you call them besides a world leader?
Oh, many things really.
Ofcousre it can be debated, but that's not the point. If you were in their position, why would you market yourself as anything less. EG has proven to be robust at marketing and the tag line "World leader in esports" is consistent with that.

What you wrote makes no sense at all. EG easily has more money in SC2 than any other team, and probably other ESPORTS as well. It would be stupid to not call them a world leader? Name a team that is more influential than EG in Esports other than maybe Korean SC1 teams

I guess the big question is where he'll train. the teamless Koreans that get picked up by foreign teams often seem sorta like the lone wolf types who are breaking out of the Korean team house system. Slayers just moved their facilities to a bigger and better house. If EG and Slayers continue to be partners, then JYP will most likely stay with his EG teammates at the Slayers house.

I think Idra is only staying there for another month or so, I believe he mentioned that in one of the numerous interviews he got when the news came out, but I wouldn't quote me on that. HuK tends to enjoy the Korean practice regimen by the looks of it, so he might stay there for quite some time. Also, I don't think JYP leaving TSL was because of his dislike of the gaming house idea, but once again, I'm just guessing here.
Grats to JYP. I'm happy he found a team that will take care of him. Good work to EG for picking up such great talent and giving him an opportunity to grow and excel.
I am worried that his trip to Homestory Cup will have an affect on his GSL Ro32 performance though. He has a good group (e.g. only one terran), but traveling still takes time away from preparations, and DongRaeGu and Genius are not players to take lightly.

I'm now waiting for someone like Golden or CoCa to transfer over to EG to give them another solid Zerg player. I thought I seen somewhere during this whole player announcement thing that it said "this is just the beginning", so they may announce another signing soon.

Personaly I thought of SangHo (Killer) rather than JYP joining EG of the two, but still a great adition to EG's roster! Congratulations to both sides and I can't wait to see JYP in HomeStory Cup IV!!
Not an EG fan, but I do like JYP. I guess it's just another instance of liking the player, disliking the team (also a fan of HuK and IdrA).
As much as I dislike PuMa's TvP, it appears to be pretty damn strong, so hopefully he can improve JYP's PvT from being crap (he's currently on a 14-loss PvT loss streak)

The only players there that are considered "scary" in the korean scene, are Puma and JYP, although theyve never done well in any top Korean tournaments, theyre still good players. Can they all kill a Korean team though? No. They're no Dongraegu.
PuMa hasnt done much in the Korean scene.. hard to argue against that. But he did have an all-kill once in the GSTL. PuMa will be putting more effort into competing in the GSL (hes only tried to qualify once before this) so we'll see if he can make it through the qualifiers and get code A.
Sure, if you look at them by foreign standards, they are at the top. But korean standards is way different.
You still consider MKP a top Korean pro?
Uhhh.....why wouldn't you?
As of late? I would not couple him with names like MMA MVP DRG. He is an amazing player yes, but he has been kinda "eh" these days.
Well I guess being #2 on Korean GM with a 80% win rate over 350 games means nothing then.
Ladder ≠ Lan, next please?
If we're talking about recent LANs....he took 2nd place at WCG Korea losing to MVP 1-2 in the finals. Since September he is 24-8 in LAN matches...
September is quite some time ago sir. Notice how I said "as of late", I myself am a MKP fan and he is a fantastic player. But I would say with how things are going recently, he is not a tip top pro with the likes of MVP and MMA. His recent Code S runs have been eh, and his performances at the last two MLGs were bleh.
His code s runs have sucked true, but don't know how you can say that about his mlg ones. Orlando, he made it through open bracket and then won his group and finished 5th or 6th. Providence, mkp lost to sc, but then beasted his way through the losers bracket beating sc in an extended series rematch and then eventually falling to mvp, who he never beats.
His record at orlando was 16-8 and his record at providence was 20-6.
As mkp's number 1 fanboy, I wouldn't call him top tier because his TvT is awful, but he's above mediocre too.
We agree slightly more than you think. I don't consider him top tier anymore, but he is indeed a step above mediocre, I would never call him that. I still view him to be the best bio player around town. His micro is still scary.
I'd say MMA has proven he's better than MKP when it comes to Bio. Especially in TvT, nobody can match up to his Bio TvT. And I think he's shown he can do mech TvT as well.

If he improved his decision making and macro he could easily get back near the top. His micro is just so good it bails him out of some really stupid engagements. Good luck to EG and JYP. Can't wait to see him at Homestory Cup

Pretty sure Korean players fear Idra the mos out of that group. They think very highly of him. MKP and Puma are both on record saying he is the scariest Zerg out there, even more so than any Korean.

I see EG dominating the sc2 scene in the upcoming year. People who discredit them because they "bought" players are just jealous that their favorite team cannot afford to buy good players.
Ahh I see, it makes sense. This is all part of EG trying to maintain a foothold in Code S so they are willing to pay money for Code S spots for example huk and JYP.

Which foreigner is even worth picking up right now? Which freeagent has more potential and a better resume than JYP?
thats not my point at all i said im disappointed that EG buys another korean BECAUSE its making the competition between foreign teams boring
not saying that EG shouldnt try to get better players just saying that it will make the foreign competition suck
That's just the natural evolution of sc2 - or competition in general. There will always be escalation. All teams will shift towards recruiting Koreans.. practically all the top foreign teams have Koreans (except for Mouz).. would be odd to not expect this to continue.

well it's quite logical. There's not so many foreigner players, that would be able to compete even in Code B. And those who would be able to, want their moneyz. On the other hand, there's so much Korean players, that are on the same level as top foreigners and they are much much cheaper. It's just logical. And btw, JYP is so good, I am glad he joins EG, he could be one of the best protosses around, if he works on PvT...
Congrats on the pick up JYP. I sort of expected it considering that he was no longer on a team, and it obviously a fantastic Protoss. Speaking of which, does anyone else find it weird that the two most recent players EG has signed are both Protoss?
Are some people really complaining that EG is able to pay the pros a good amount of money?
Complaining that some of the players that work so hard are able to get a decent salary?
This isn't baseball, these aren't 100 million dollar contracts, these are guys that work hard trying to make a living doing what they love. If EG is able to give players the salary they are looking for then don't bash the team for picking up great players.

You could be mediocre and stay in Code S for a LOOOOOONG time because of the way the system is setup. That is why they changed recently changed it. Definitly dont agree that Huk is mediocre. Hes a very, very good player but not top tier korean if thats what he meant by mediocre... In fact Idra, Huk, and Puma are probably at the same exact level right now as far as I'm concerned. JYP is a step above them and definitly a sick pickup for EG. I think its safe to say EG #1 foreign team.

Yeah, except the fact that once he got in code S, it was quite easy to stay in there.

He's made it to the ro8, he won MLG orlando, he's done well so consistently, I have no idea how you have any logical basis for saying he's medicore in korea.

Well, he has good mechanics and that's about it. In few years, it will be like BW - everyone will have great mechanics. And then, Huk (and probably most of the players that are winning right now) will be nothing more, just B teamers in most teams.

Yep, thats why EG sent out Huk, Idra, Puma and their 2v2 team against Mouz in the last season of the EG masters cup <.<
If you truly believe, that EG wasn´t trying seriously in their own cup, then I don´t know what to tell you.
This addition makes EG definitely the strongest "foreign" team on paper. However, this doesn´t mean, that they will dominate the foreign scene, at least not in team tourneys. These tournaments still have special circumstances.

Agreed. No way EG didn't want to win and a piece of that prize money. After all, it was their own tournament, so it would have been a prideful victory.

Also they did not hype it much at all. It was us, the community that hyped it
This is a fantastic pickup, JYP has one of the most beastly protoss streams and I expect he will perform amazing. Now that he has some fantastic terrans to practice with I think we will see some major improvements.
Nice pickup by EG even if JYP is slightly overrated. Once they get rid of their other nonproductive NA players, clear some cap space, and replace them with better players, they'll really be scary then.

NO. YOU are trying to manipulate everyone, you are hurting esports by signing good players. STOP IT.
Haven't really watched much of JYP, but I know he's pretty good. Hopefully since he's now "foreign", I'll get to see more of him. Hopefully he learns how to play vs. Terran, though as a fellow brotoss, I can sort of kind of maybe understand his pain.
EG's looking stronger and stronger with each new player.
I don't know, maybe one day we'll see EG in the GSTL. They've got a pretty line up... Puma, Idra, Huk, JYP... deMuslim, Machine (and don't forget inControl and the others! xD)
Good pick up, but I think JYP is a bit overrated. He's good, but he's hyped up as the savior of Protoss and has so far disappointed. Him, Huk, Alicia, Brown and CoCa living together is exciting though, hopefully we see the same sort of innovation we saw from Huk, HerO and MC when they lived together.

The only players there that are considered "scary" in the korean scene, are Puma and JYP, although theyve never done well in any top Korean tournaments, theyre still good players. Can they all kill a Korean team though? No. They're no Dongraegu.
You forgot about Idra. I saw something on reddit about some gsl code s'ers who feared him quite a lot.
Why are people getting angry at EG? Please stop saying they hyped this up, all they did was tweet that they were signing a new player. We hyped this up, don't get all salty with them, damn. Congrats to JYP and EG, a great player and a great team.
Comparing EG to Korean teams, they're way behind Slayers/IM/MVP/Startale/oGs. I would say the best players on Prime, FXO, HoSeo and TSL are better than the best players on EG.
They could destroy whatever is left of ZeNex, though.

We signed him when he was Code A; between the signing and the announcement, he qualified for Code S.
The bulk of the community would never take his comment seriously, neither should you. Congrats on the pick up.

Give ZeNex a couple months, they'll be back with the next top 3 of each race to eventually be lost again. It's a vicious cycle.

NO. YOU are trying to manipulate everyone, you are hurting esports by signing good players. STOP IT.
Preach, brother. EG is clearly trying to orchestrate the overthrow of South Korean Starcraft Supremacy by making players worse and losing money. They are called "EVIL Geniuses," come on guys. Let's get on the serious.
:-)
Congrats, EG! The team that is only needs 1 more really good Zerg for a strong and balanced line up. I like that their team now looks quite reminiscent of the Korean BW teams. A clear top tier lineup with a lot of strong players hard at work at a lower tier, but still contributing to the team's success with their time and effort!

Either you're really jealous about EG being in the spotlight instead of your favorite team or you're really dumb. This is BIG news for us foreigners, EG is one of the biggest foreign teams.
Also they did not hype it much at all. It was us, the community that hyped it

They are behind the big teams but i'm not that sure they would lose against Prime (MKP, creator and byun are good but i wouldn't give them overwhelming odds against the EG guys, and the rest of the roster is not very well known). Same for HoSeo with Jjakji, sage and seal.
I'm a bigger fan of Killer, so I'm a bit disappointed he didn't get picked up, especially since his personality seems like it may fight more (just speculation of course) but I think JYP has more potential to do well in the long run. We'll see though.

And i'm pretty sure they would beat TSL.
You underrate the Korean teams and their unknown players. Just because they aren't well known doesn't mean they aren't very good. It really depends on how well Idra does in Korea. If he can keep up in Code S, EG could do well in GSTL. If he shows he is below Code S or even A level, EG would be beat by most of the Korean teams. I would not trust JYP until his PvT improves tremendously. Huk and Puma can't carry a team against any of the Korean squads except ZeNex.

On the contrary there are far more straight forward posts compared to sarcastic ones. And most of the sarcastic posts are either obvious, clever or both. That's when humor is appreciated. When you have people who don't know what they're doing its just annoying.
I wonder what minimum wage they managed to snag him on.
He doesnt have any star-name power that can justify a big contract, he didn't have a team, and koreans of his caliber make a pitance for their efforts. The only reason for the acquisition can be cheapness.
Solid pick-up by EG. This team is getting pretty stacked, and they have a lot of guys in korea right now. I think we'll be seeing a lot of good results to come

Well, I'm glad they are planning to showcase him around the globe so we can see him at some MLGs, etc. Gratz to JYP and to EG. I now have a favorite player on EG.

You seem so sure of your evaluation, he's already in code S though.
Eh, I feel that any Code S player changing teams is perfectably hype-able news. The more "foreign" Code S players, the better (never mind their origin or training methods, lol).

Well for one he's the only teamless Code S player Also since EG is a foreign team, how many foreigners do you think have a reasonable chance of staying in Code S for one more than 1 season right now? I'd say 2-5.
I really like his PvZ style, its up there with Hero for my favorite PvZ approach.
However, his PvT is wack, and there's just no way to be successful in Code S if you can't beat Terrans. Here's hoping that the SlayerS teamhouse can help him improve in that matchup.

Why should they just announce it? The community loves the hype.
It's also good marketing. Every time a team does things like this they become even more of a household name, so to say, expanding their name recognition. That is one of the most important tools a team could have for gathering sponsors. Just look at how many sponsors Idra has to name off every time he is on any show. That actually is also a great thing EG does to gather and maintain sponsors, actively promoting them. They do a lot of things right, hopefully more teams will follow suit. I hope that the foreign scene becomes inundated with teams that operate on EG's level.

Fruitdealer and Trickster left a long time ago, on very very bad terms.

Liquid doesn't have that much money. They are a new professional organization. that doesn't have a lot of sponsors. EG is the richest western organization. Tyler has said on SoTG before that EG is powerful and Liquid is still new and doesn't have the money that EG does. If any team had a chance to afford Moon, it would be EG.
why would they ever pick up moon when they could likely get a better player for cheaper?
Because Moon is marketable more easily then any of the other current possibilites.
I'm a firm believer that Moon, if going full-time sc2, could be one of the best. Unfortunately it seems that he wants to split his time 50/50 with sc2 and wc3, which I think means he won't be able show his full potential in either of the games.

Moon is an RTS legend but he hasnt shown anything spectacular. He has all the tools to succeed but there's no guarantee he's gonna be "one of the best" when you have monsters like MVP chilling at the top.

Is that how it happened? From what I gathered it seemed like they were letting players go and I believe Polt remarked on his stream that something special was coming up for TSL in the new year.
Either way it was quite the surprise when they let go of 3 players at once.

Would really like to see EG compete in GSTL now, if they're eligible.
I don't think they're that good. One of the worst things that could happen to EG is get all-killed by a new player like DRG and MMA did it in their time.,
This is pretty cool. EG has been collecting a pretty good lineup so far, it makes me wonder why the other foreign teams aren't fighting for their GSL players too. Congrats JYP!
he shod get better now in pvt team EG has got 2 sick terran and 1 ok terran and playin in NA and the EU shod get him 2 win a bit more look at hero he didnt win shit b4
I must say, this is an extremely smart pickup by EG. JYP is an extremely phenominal player who has earned his reputation instead of having it built for him by others in the scene. He has some of the best PvZ and PvP out there, and after he moves in with SlayerS it seems safe to say that his PvT will improve dramatically. Hes a super awesome player and I wish him all the best in 2012.
I think Puma had an important part on hiring JYP. Everytime he won a tournament, he thanked JYP. Actually, MVP also did that a few times. He must be an amazing practice partner.
TSL eaten aLive lately. Congrats EG. I think I see a pattern - JYP/Puma beats TL/OGS member in important match, EG acquisition follows. We'll see how that works out.
On SOTG didn't incontrol say demuslim and idra don't really practise against each other because they meet in tournaments? Ever since I've worried that the EG players in the team house aren't actually using each other as practise partners to the extent that they could.
It would be really nice if JYP moved to the EG house and then he and puma showed them how it was done.

Well congratulations EG, buying more talents. Not very fun to see a foreign team only picking up koreans in order to get better results, but oh well, better than JYP being teamless i suppose
I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but wouldn't they need atleast 7 guys for a full gstl lineup? With Huk, Idra, Puma and JYP in Korea that would mean, even if incontrol/demuslim come over, they'd still need another 2 players, or buy some more from tsl.
Either way gl to eg and jyp, really excited to see jyp at hsc and other international events next year.

Why would you need 7, exactly? Was there some sort of rule about it? It's Bo9, why would you need more than 5...
even so, I could see EG picking up foreign players in Korea as mercenaries (desRow, LastShadow if he's still there, whoever else)
Worst kept secret ever. Anyone who marginally knows how EG works could have seen this coming. They wouldn't pass on the opportunity to add a player who was teamless yet competiting in the hardest league in the world. That's how EG does it. The $ figure works a thon.

Extremely difficult to compare the 2 based on results. Hero is in code A while PuMa is in code B, but PuMas won 2 NASL's while Heros won dreamhack... you could go back and forth forever. At the end of the day, PuMa has more than twice Hero's earnings in sc2.. so as you can see its pretty pointless going down this path.
Theyre are both great.. one things forsure, we can look forward to more head to head matchups between the two.
To all people saying EG is the best foreigner team.
How many koreans are allowed in the team for it to still be called a foreigner team? It's weird saying "They are the best foreign team because now they have x and z who are both koreans."
As far as I know FXO is like 50% foreigners and the management n stuff is foreign-based. Is that a foreign team / mixed team / korean team?

Just wondering Happy new year
EG is a foreigner team, and will always be as long as it's run by foreigner with an HQ outside of Kr. But if for instance they only have koreans in their sc2 squad, you can say: EG is a foreigner team with a korean sc2 division.
Also hero has the toss bonus points, while puma has the plays terran malus. So clearly hero > puma ... just kidding by the way. Anyway wish Jyp fun as an evil genius. *wishes the evil geniuses would be a strategy factory, with having such a team name*

That's a retarded way to measure skill.
Do you realize that if Hero loses his next bo3 he is out of code A? Would that suddenly make him a "code B" player inferior to every other player who is still in the GSL?

but what do you mean with "knows how EG works"?
One didn't need to read a bunch of opinions on dozens of posts to figure out it was JYP.
Since the release of SC2, EG has never once signed a players 'cause of his potential or personality. Leave the whole "he fits perfectly into our team strategy and shares the same thoughts we do as to what the team goals and direction is" easy and politically correct kind of talk out of this. They sign players based on a combination of two things: accomplishment history and popularity. Look at their signings previous to JYP. IdrA, DeMuslim, Puma and HuK. IdrA was at the time by far the most well known and achieving foreign player in SC and a pivotal figure in E-Sports. DeMuslim is a legend in the whole RTS genre. Puma had just won the NASL Season 1 and HuK has always been a fan favorite plus he is an excellent player.
This being said, what I meant with "this is how EG works" is that they don't look at expenses to make the best move marketing wise. They want EG to be at the top of the most of the revelant E-Sports related competitions. JYP was the only player that made sense for them to adquire at this point. Moon is back playing WC3 and has no accomplishments in SC2. Killer is in Code A and it would be an enormous risk to sign him provided he could easily fall into Code B. Grubby is a foreigner version of Moon. And when I say "marketing wise", I they don't take chances on players that can someday be good. They bet on sure things and safe values so that they can keep EG's name at the top.
And before you start ramparting on me, I don't mean to say this is an incorrect or less noble managing strategy. This is the path they chose and thus far they've had tremendous success with it. There's nothing wrong with signing the best players.

DeMuslim is a legend in the whole RTS genre
is laughable, especially in contradiction to the rest of your post. It doesn't make any sense.
There is no path choice as you put it. Once your team is big enough, you always go for the big hitters. No EG/TL sized team will take an unnecessary risk on an unknown player. That's just moronic if you have any sense of logic. Once you're big enough, you will acquire the big hitters. That's that. Let the small teams take the risk.
For all the flak EG gets for picking up proven players, I don't see TL getting the same response despite doing the exact same thing.

You realise that Moon came second at Dreamhack Winter and has better achievments in SC2 than Demuslim?
Great pickup for EG! Even though im a big TL fan i can't deny that this was one of the best things that could happen too EG. Probably the best free agent player/protoss put there.
Another thing i noticed with TL and EG is that EG is a much more balanced team(in tearms of race distribution). EG has 2 terran, 4zergs and 4 protosses. TL on the other hand has 1 terran, 2 protosses and 5 zergs. I think TL are waiting for a good terran to be available beofre they counter pickup.

It's not really, but everyone here is comparing players on tournament wins when in reality there have been maybe 12-15 different large tournament winners.

Yeah, but that's like saying Fruitdealer is better than someone like bomber or curious just because he won a GSL. Achievements speak a lot, but doesn't automatically lead to one player being better than the other. Anyways, I think hero and puma are pretty even, their record against each other are almost 50/50.
It's obvious that Moon is far superior to the likes of Demuslim, Axslav, Machine, Strifecro, etc. He was the best or one of the two best in wc3 along with grubby and for the little amount of time he invested into sc2 so far he's already ten times as good as your average NA Grandmasters pseudo-pro player.
In any case...we can only hope he gets picked up by any team, devotes full-time into sc2 and starts showing us who's boss. If you remember, when he almost won those finals vs Ace, he was one of the first zergs to effectively use baneling drops. His macro was pretty good too, it was just that he didn't have the necessary degree of sc2 experience to take the gold.

Teams aren't constructed purely based on skill. Korean proteams have like 20 players... only 5-6 get used regularly in clanwars and make the GSL runs -- doesn't mean that the other 15 don't deserve to be on the team.
What a silly attitude to have if you think Lz/Machine/Axslav/Strife don't deserve to be there

Deserve is the wrong word. Maybe they're amazing practice partners. Nevertheless, they're pretty horrible compared to other pros.
Everyone on a team doesn't always have to be a "star."
Seems to me like EG is doing a good job of assembling a group of players that fit their team vision and can accomplish the team goals at a variety of levels. As eSports grow and the teams and sponsorships increase a lot more factors play a role in team creation other than just simply trying to get the best 4-6 players possible and dumping any player that hasnt won a recent tournament.
I appreciate the professional and business like approach EG takes to eSports. It will ultimately help raise the bar for all foreign based teams and benefit all pro players as well. The lack of appreciation of team dynamics and understanding of business in this thread is ridiculous... But maybe a lot of people on TL haven't played team sports or taken a business/Eco class...

That's complete horseshit. He was performing well before his broken arm and has performed well when he's got back into shape since the injury. IdrA said he was one of the best foreign macro-orientated Terrans period and EG signed him on IdrA's recommendation. He was EG's ace in clan wars when they could choose either IdrA or PuMa. He'd have performed well against top notch players. You're just spouted absolute crap and trying to trivialise an injury that would so obviously affect anybody.

He might have a bit more skill, but lumping him in with them is fine, as he hasn't accomplished jack.
EG's accomplished players are Puma/idra/huk and JYP.
Lumping in demuslim with them is even more unfair.
Except Demuslim was out for months with a broken hand. The point is that Demuslim/Idra/Huk/JYP/Puma deserve to be on the team, whereas the rest don't in terms of skill.

Are you kidding lol? you obviously didn't follow the scene at all a year ago if you think DeMu wouldn't have won anything without his injury. He was easily top 2 EU terran with Sjow and consistantly placed high and qualified for damn near every large EU tournament. He was COMPLETELY outclassing many of his opponents and had been since beta, he may not be winning anything now but you'd have to be extremely myopic to have that view of this time last year.

I love how no SC2 player has left more of a legacy than BitByBit, even though it's been nearly a year since he lost to Moon everyone still remembers BitByBit well, truly he is the first legend of SC2.
Good person for HuK to practice with PvP and also work on PvX builds with. In his recent interview with Seltzer he was talking about the lack of Protoss in the SlayerS house, aside from all the other great things there. No shortage of Terran's, I'm sure.
I wonder who Idra, on a side note, is going to practice ZvZ with? He will need to find a good 3 or 4 Koreans to play with to practice for his upcoming gracket of doom.

Hey remember when Curious did really poorly in a lot of GSTL matches and looked really weak? I hear he's doing pretty well. Or how about Haypro? People spent nearly a YEAR giving that guy shit until MLG Providence. Players improve, and their teams keep them around for a reason.
A team member's worth isn't just in pure results, it's also in how helpful they can be as practice partners, or how much potential they might have down the road. Machine, Axslav, and Strife specifically have been playing notably better as of late, even if they're not a favorite going into a tournament.
It boggles my mind how people are seemingly incapable of seeing a player's worth beyond the last few months' tournament results.
I feel that the Koreans are seeing the market and tournaments Puma and Hero have been exposed to and are deciding they want a piece of the foreign action. This is fantastic for global starcraft.

Last few months? None of the players we're talking about have achieved anything remarkable, even on the ladder. They're there because they were part of the BW team (where the also didn't exactly post stunning results). Nothing more.
Anyone who watches DeMuslim's stream knows he's a quality player. His problem is something akin to what Hero had... his performances on the big stage seemed to be of a lower quality than his ladder exploits. If ever he can show up and play at tourney's without letting the pressure get to him most of you would definitely have a different opinion of him. He is definitely a very good macro terran and has sick potential.
hm after the hype the community created, fueled by a few tweets and a picture of a silhouette this is sort of... anticlimatic. nevertheless a great pick and the most rational choice considering JYP´s potential and results lately.

I think EG have a great lineup with solid players. I hope they will make more of an impact in team tournaments in 2012 - they certainly have the individual skill to do so. 2011 was totally dominated by Mouzsports outside of Korea in this regard.

Just curious, why wasn't JYP a good fit? It seems like every TSL player that makes a splash in the competitive scene they end up departing from TSL.
IMO, admittingly a superficial one, I think TSL is a dysfunctional team with dysfunctional management and JYP will be much better off being away from that team. Maybe you can shed some light on the situation.

JYP and Killer both didn't fit within the newly restructured and very strict practice schedule in the TSL house. Coach Lee's management of the team is far from dysfunctional, however, a lot of players (see Trickster, Fruitdealer, Clide, JYP, Killer) didn't want to put in the practice time that Coach Lee was beginning to implement, and left for "greener pastures"
It should be noted that JYP is the only player to really improve after leaving the TSL house.

I have to agree with this. I can't be sure ofcourse, but there seems to be so many problems with that team. There has to be something wrong there. I have to think that the management is doing something wrong.

I will explain why I get confused. He lists Clide and JYP under the players that left because of training schedule. But then someone points out that they left to SlayerS (joining EG means you have to train at the SlayerS house so JYP also counts here), so it doesnt make any sense that they left because of that. Then he says Clide left because of friends, and that JYP just wasn't a fit (which says nothing). Then its conflicting posts about players leaving because of salary or not. He posts that he wished Korean players would not want to join western teams to get exposure, which would point to JYP leaving because of salary, but then he says he didnt post that in this thread to make that point (Posting it in this thread implies that). Also Killer didnt leave mainly because of salary, but it was one of the reasons?
Do you see my point? Its impossible to pinpoint any reason for why they are leaking players. Thats why some get the feeling that there has to be something that isnt going so well in their team.

does it occur to you that slayers may have a less strict practice schedule? they may practice the same amount but they way TSLs coach makes them practice may not agree with certain players. also there may not be a single defining reason. so killer wants more money? he may also dislike the people/the practice/the house/etc. just because he's asking for more money than average from a foreign team doesnt mean his salary was the reason he left.

Again, Killer's salary was also a factor in him leaving TSL, but certainly not the main reason.
So first you say they all left because of a strict schedule, but then its not because of it. Then its because of salary, but not really. There is also the issue with players not fitting? It might be I misunderstood you, but I am getting mixed messages here.
Hasn't this been going on for a long time with TSL? They don't seem to be able to hold on to their players, so I get the feeling that they are doing something wrong.
So essentially what you got out of my post was:

While I agree with you, I doubt this is an example of that. JYP just didn't have a team at all, and EG had enough money to pick him up, and wanted a good player. So they did.
Oh no, this wasn't an example of that at all! That's not what I was trying to imply, JYP simply didn't fit in at TSL and I'm glad he's found a new team.
So, Clide switches from TSL to Slayers because he didn't want to put up with the practice time? Doesn't make sense.

I think what he means, without trying to offend you, is, that you throw stuff around without any citations and claiming them to be relevant. You're basically adding 5 different reasons why they could have left, or what could have been an issue, without actually saying anything or providing citations while you make it sound like you have insider information.

Did you not read what he said at all? lol.
Slayers is famous for having one of the stronger, if not the strongest, training regimes in Korea. It shows too, they have a heavy line up of hard hitters and had an extremely successful year of 2011. They're arguably the best team in the world (with IM being up there as well.)

I personally don't buy the "players leaving because practice very strict" argument. If Tester, FD, Clide, JYP, Rain, Killer all left around the same time, then that signals to me that the team is moving in a different direction. When you have their major players dropping out over the period of 8 months or so, that tells me something is up internally.
We'll see if Clide improves with Slayers, so far hes about the same. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing if Alive and Polt improve, they've also remained pretty stagnant. Polt, you can argue has gotten worse strictly based on results, but context says that he has improved his play, but not by a wide margin. I'd like to see if this new training schedule/shift in management actually benefits the rest of the team, or if we're going to see more of the same from TSL.

EG is easily my favorite team and reading about their history won't change my opinion of them, but I would still like to read about it.
Also, I couldn't disagree with you more on the whole "EG was a no-team team" and bought their way to success. How do you think any form of business works? The rich get richer for a reason. There's no reason to hate the players (team management), hate the game (business). So a no name team with absolute no reputation managed to scrape up the fundings to buy a team with "fame"? And if EG made money form the former coL team, why didn't Complexity make that money first?
"Having money" is BS. EG is one of, if not the best team at making money from eSports. In an industry where every cent of your funding comes from advertising and corporate sponsorship, EG has some of the best people at creating those deals.
If the other teams have less money, it's because they're doing a worse job at promoting themselves.

They seem to be able to add players when they want. And i dont think any other team would support those players better than EG is now. Its a win win situation.
You really can't have a team of all superstars though. A team has to have its stars and its b-team players. The b-team players still help the team by plugging it in smaller tournaments and being practice partners.
doesn't Slayers have 20 players and also a A and B-Team? And also other Teams have more players than EG. EG has only 9-10. I really don't see why they should kick some players.

Yeah i agree with you jmbthirteen, as long as its possible for EG to have all these players they should keep them. Its only good both for the scene and for the "lesser" players
silly how people think that as soon as someone doesn't perform really well he should be kicked from a team. teams shouldn't just have 3 people who are flying around winning stuff, they need players who have a lot of fans, players who are great practice partners, those who are creative, etc.etc. Just look at korean teams (especially in BW) how many players do they have. +we don't know how they feel about each other and how much do they earn etc.etc. so it's silly to even talk about it.

Also, I couldn't disagree with you more on the whole "EG was a no-team team" and bought their way to success. How do you think any form of business works? The rich get richer for a reason. There's no reason to hate the players (team management), hate the game (business). Starting up a team is always difficult, if you have the ability to attain the resources necessary to improve, then the more power to you.
I'll google it and PM some links, it's not really that hard to believe though.

It's not like they've grown any talent. All the talent they have on their team is either worse or as good as they were when they got into EG. It's called having money.
And they have money because?
aww they are good at what they do...
Maybe you should know what you're talking about first. EG was a no-name team until they bought the coL CS team. From there, they actually got some fame because the coL squad was good. And that's the wave they rode in on. Personally, I don't respect anyone on that team.
So not only is someone an EG hater, he stalks them as well.
JYP is a way better pick up then Killer. I feel JYP has more potential than Killer does. Killer is closer to his max potential if you ask me. While JYP does some really good things, but his v T is horrible. That is something that should be correctable with some training with Huk/slayers.
Yeah I dislike them, so what? No I don't stalk them... Sorry I used to play CS and pay attention to the scene. How is it stalking if one day you notice that the whole squad is under a new tag? And then the stories came out.
EG had EG.ca with blackpanther and such before they bought coL's squad.
I didn't say that EG didn't have a team, I said that they didn't have a good team until they took coL.

EG.ca was really, really good. They placed second at CPL summer 2005 behind SK.swe (who won everything at the time) and were NA's best team at the time.

was that the team with Shag, Grt, Stevenson, Lari and some other original EG.ca team member? That was pretty sick. I fucking love cs 1.6

EG was famous before Frod and the like went over to the team. They were the best Canadian team at CS and had an incredible stable roster for a long time because it was a group of friends (Stevenson, Lari, Bechdholt, Kolach, Tyndale [watch EG about average]).
To say they were "a no-name team" is an insult to those 5 people and the work they did and informs us about your lack of knowledge and pompous attitude.

Also keep in mind that ESWC was going on at the same time. I also believe that the reason why SK.swe was at the CPL instead of ESWC was because SK.germany had qualified already and they couldn't have 2 teams.
