Very, very poor decision. Not just booting Naniwa, but also randomly adding IdrA and Sen to Code S, very annoyed.
Sen.....why?

Ahh ok so it's official. Well, this GSL thing was fun while it lasted.

it will continue to be the best and most prestigious tournament of starcraft 2.

In Korea its a huge deal that he did that and didn't even try and I'm sure with Korean fans none of them would want NaNiWa in GSL for what he did and most importantly most of the players in GSL wouldn't want someone like that in GSL. Fact is GOM is a Korean run company and for all we know what he did may have broken a GSL rule and they can give him a punishment they seem fit with their standards and rules.

If there was a rule that stated it, it can be enforced and we all have to agree with that (though we need to know what the rule states specifically).

However if there was no rule it would be "unprofessional" for GOMTV themselves to ban Naniwa on the spot like that instead of giving a warning.

And it would be even more unprofessional to ban the player and then replace him by handing out some random invites for the spots players are supposed to qualify for.

now that i think about it: don't Code S players get a lot of salary from GOM? If someone took a shit in my house, I'd kick them out fast.

There are other punishements you can do without removing his seed.

like what?

It's a tournament, there's not much they CAN do.

This is completely rediculous for Naniwa to be kicked out of Code s...He earned that spot by training 8+ hours a day for, and for succeeding in MLG, and all that is taken away by GOM for an insignificant moral issue...and judging from the tone of the announcement, that they are replacing him with a "professional" player rather than a "prize-hunter", it seems like their decision was affected simply by their dislike of him. Not giving someone their hard earned Code S spot because you don't like him has no place in professional competition...I really hope there is some sort of uproar and GOM reverts their action.

Not likely, Koreans obviously hold their players up to a higher standard than can be comprehended by foreigners. It is their country, their league.

If all this Naniwa-stuff is true, GOM makes just only itself look bad.
I agree with giving Naniwa a warning or a technical foul (reducing prize money or sth else).
But disqualification for a thing which isn't even covered in the rules... no way.

no, what Gom did was the perfect response and I applaud them for taking such action. Starcraft is a professional game and we don't need attitudes and disrespect from people like Naniwa.

Just be glad he's not banned for life, as he would if he pulled the same stunt in any Esport in Korea aka sc1

this is wildly ignorant

Why? Isn't it time for esports to get a professional image? Naniwa can come back when he can act like an adult, like a professional.

LOL, i'm guessing you've never seen any professional sport, because i can name literally thousands of professional athletes that make millions that act significantly worse than Nani did.

Acting like a professional and having the title of professional are different. I'm surprised by the number of people who don't understand that. It's not hard.

Besides, this thread isn't about Naniwa. There are already enough threads for that whole debacle. This is about IdrA getting Code S. Personally I believe he thoroughly deserves it.

So let me get this straight...

If you try to cheat/exploit the system to get into the GSL like Choya did, you basically have to apologize and eveything is fine.
If you matchfix in games that actually matters for GSL, you get a "temp ban" by your team, not by the league.
And if you proberush in a game that had no other purpose than to take place in a tournament not directly related to the GSL, you lose your whole progress in the GSL and get punished by the league in the hardest way possible

Sorry GOMTV, as much as I respect you, but I think you made the wrong decision.

This is exactly how I feel. I can't believe I'm actually legitimately upset over this but I am. Can't wait for Live on 3 tomorrow though for Scoots' take on it though

they're not even the same scenario, and choya is banned from GSL for 3 seasons. If his team didn't do it, gom would have.

Choya was only banned for the GSTL1, way back, you are thinking of Rain that was suspended for 3 seasons for dropping out of code S on the day of group selections itself.
On topic, Naniwa deserved it as far as I am concerned. I'm just disappointed that code S slots are handed out for something that is not at least due to tournament results/partnerships like that. It sort of devalues the value of being a code S player.

Totally agree. We need to set up a petition or some kind of community rally to make some noise at least to how ridiculous GOM is acting in this. They have a terrible format with no rules stating probe rush isnt allowed, then ban a player who follows their shitty rules? Unbelievable really.

A petion for what? Are you fucking serious? GOM can enforce their rules however they please, give me a break.

So what if they can? That doesn't mean we have to agree with it.

They have a vested business interest to display as many high quality games as possible. They are using Naniwa as an example to set a precedent for future pros. I am sure there will be some clause or aspect in the 2012 sign-ups/contract things, that more or less highlight sportsmanship as a factor in maintaining competitive status.

Being a progamer in Korea carries a different set of values and professionalism since Brood War. Thus although the rule may not be state explicitly, they demanded a certain conduct from progamers in Korea in a major tournament.

It's lose-lose situation either way. IMO this is very good comment about the situation.

you mean like the same way they didn't agree with naniwa's unprofessional conduct?

What does that have anything to do with what I wrote? People have the right to disagree, saying "GOM can enforce their rules however they please, give me a break" as the person I responded to is idiotic. Just because you have a rule doesn't mean you can't express your opinion about a ruling.

Wow this is bs. If they take away nani's spot I wouldn't mind having IdrA taking his place since he was already gonna play the up/downs and he is a popular foreigner who is training in Korea and all that. But why in the flying fuck should Sen who lives and plays in Taiwan and has his focus on that league over there get a spot over someone in Code A? Are GOM playing the "more foreigner fans watching plus 2 more zergs in Code S"-card?

GL IdrA & Sen.

I can tell you that very few professionals throw their game like Nani did. I can think of a few and guess what they all got severely punished.

You cant throw a game like that in a professional environment.

Sweet, still won't change the fact that this will be one of the stupidest thing i've seen done in E-sports yet. Other sc2 pros have done things much worse, and ironically enough Naniwa get's the worst treatment for not giving it his all in a game that didn't mean shit. at all.
