Right now the number of females who take playing / improving very seriously is probably pretty low, so the field for female gamers is wide-open for someone to take it. | ||

I think that what is essential positive discrimination or how some people word it 'token girls' is damaging. I think this in fact promotes and reinforces the already rather strong sexism in the scene. Some ones gender should not even be considered... I would not expect to recieve an email at work saying 'Publicity department has a new member of staff (she is a girl)' because that would be ridiculous. I just think if she is a really talented player who does well in tournaments etc her gender is neither important or relevant. However if she is bad (as some people here are suggesting) then putting her on the team is a publicity stunt and is damaging. I cringed when I saw the thread title "girl player". (it's sexist) | ||

Which being on a team has the very high chance of doing thus in turn making her a far better player then she was entering into the team. So really all iv gotta say is just dont assume anything really cause things have a good chance of changing rather drastically. | ||

Girl gets/does something eSports related. Bunch of guys bring up "it's only because she is an attractive female." Bunch of guys defend her by showing that other people are worse, do worse or she is legit. Several pages of this goes back and forth. If we could just be happy for her and the opportunity it'd be great. Unrealistic but great. "BUT INCONTROL, A MORE DESERVING MALE COULD HAVE GOTTEN THAT SPOT! It isn't right that she gets stuff because she is a girl!" I then make the argument about marketing, the real world blah blah blah... someday maybe. | ||
