Yeah, just like a rapist who got out of jail decides to go rape again gets a more severe punishment than a first time offender. Such an unfair system!

Mind boggingly stupid comparison.

Could've been any comparison, extreme or not and it'd still apply because he has a bad track record.

There is a reason why people are reacting like this and it's also not just because it's naniwa, but what he did was genuinely stupid. Had anyone else done it on the same stage they would have gotten flak I guarantee you. If it was a korean they'd have been banned from GSL immediately and potentially kicked off/banned from any team.

Pointless games are pointless... Don't see the point in whining about it, since it's nothing diffrent from anything else he could have done nor would it matter... It's not like other people havn't done similair things in the past without this amount of shitstorm about it...

Why are people bringing up the Stephano games? They are not even remotely comparable. Stephano even won one game. His builds atleast had a 1% chance of winning.

The hate against naniwa is silly. I feel like Korean players and a big part of the SC2 community are right now ganging up and hating on Naniwa, it's close to bullying in my opinion and it disgusts me. I thought good of this community but it's showing it's true colours more and more. The HoN and FPS communitys are assholes but atleast they arent hypocrites and Dramaqueens the lot of them.

As soon as Naniwa does something it is blown out of porportion and people take the chance to hate on him. He played his 3 games that mattered and he gave it all. He lost and all 3 games were close and he chose to forfeit the last match in a faschion that is arguable.

That was a quick apology. He's not as stubborn as people thought, I guess.

He deserves every ounce of criticism and hatred he gets. His actions lack both professionalism and sportsmanship. All of you arguing for "his match meant nothing therefore he should not be forced to play" is ridiculous. If you look at the UEFA Cup, teams that have no chance of qualifying must still field a team and play the match. Even if they have no chance of moving forward, players are still on the field, and they still play. They don't field a team of 6 players. They field a team of 11. Imagine showing up to a UEFA Cup game and the team decides to field 6 players because the match doesn't mean anything. No one would stand for it in the soccer community and no one should stand for it here.

In a old Formula 1 race, Senna had the championship won basically, but not on lockdown (a no point race, while his main rival won would have lost it) so Senna basically crashed his opponent in the first turn on the first lap to ensure that couldn't happen. Disgraceful? Maybe. A Professional 'win no matter what' mindset? I think so.

I'll stay a fan... but a lot of respect was lost.

Hahah aww yeah, I would've wanna see something like that! Naniwa probe-rushing, meanwhile going over to Nestea's booth to slap him from his chair and win the game!

I really don't care, format like that with nothing on the line, basically people are saying they are okay with him throwing the game if he did it in any other way. Don't see the difference, i thought it was pretty funny and we could quickly move on to the deciding matches.

Edit: from MC's twitter

From Waxangels's blog

@oGsMC: I was really lost for words after watching today's game. Does he even know what the word "pro" is? My role model for professionalism is White-Ra. He really loves his fans, and doesn't give up his games until the end, and he's very mannered towards everyone. Does anyone dislike White-Ra?

I hope Naniwa can look at White-Ra and change his mentality. I don't think it's right to do that, not considering your opponent at all. I wish he'd think about how he would have felt if I had gone 3-0 and confirmed #1 in my group, and he was 0-3, and I thought that since I'm 1st place nothing matters and just GG'd out of my game against him.

Well, if you there's no big deal because there's no money on the the line, then I can't say anything to that, you're just not a pro. After seeing Naniwa, I thought HerO was all the more awesome for being so upset about losing his games yesterday.

MC's a White-Ra fan? Daym, everyone likes GrandpaToss so much! Says a lot when the BossToss himself is a fan of him.

Haha so just proberushing instead of doing a shitty 6-pool like Idra did to Jinro at the GSL is a huge difference?

The reason people are reacting like this is because people on these forums LOVE to overreact to everything. TSL vs EG, Stephano vs Complexity, Naniwa vs Nestea, Naniwa vs Complexity are just some of the shit people have blown totally out of proportion so far.

I don't understand the comparisons to professional sports. I have seen plenty of games near the end of a season with no playoff implications where a team will play their B team players. No one cares because the games don't matter. I think if Naniwa wanted to forfeit they should have let him. I guess that option wasn't available before the game so he basically forfeited in the game.

I agree with Nani that since he wouldn't have been absolutely playing to win anyway that no one is being robbed of an epic game. NO.

The correct thing to do in such situation is to play a cool game. Do a mothership rush, hallucination rush or something that would say, "the result of the game does not affect our status in the tournament, however as professional gamers we would bring the entertainment to our fans, teams and paid viewers."

He has to dance for our amusement, in the game. Him winning money is not what I look forward to from being his fan. I look forward to his games.

...I'm assuming that you're just using it for purposes of the metaphor, but comparing Naniwa to a rapist? Or any kind of criminal? See, this is the problem -- he does something that people think is unprofessional or BM, and that's a totally valid opinion to have. There are a lot of reasons why he shouldn't have probe rushed. But people saying stuff like this just escalates everything into a giant shit-fest.
