Wow, huge props to Naniwa for answering to the media in a situation like this. It's really tough to read something like "My mindset was broken" from such a tough minded player. I know the GSL is treating you kind of rough, but keep fighting!

At MLG people play rock paper scissors over placement matches. At Assembly Stephano and Brat_OK competed in losing a best of 3. Stephano threw a series against Cloud at Dreamhack. Idra forfeited an entire group's worth of games at IPL. All of these games had were more important than this match.

But Naniwa is the scum of the earth because it happened in Korea.

It's amazing that there's some sort of cutoff point between being lame and making a game out of it.
I will reduce you to a series of numbers.

NANI! :D Your games was really amazing and you barely lost those two. I don't think the match with Nestea should have even been played.

I understand how he felt, but I also understand the people that were upset. I hoped he could muster up some motivation for his rivalry match with nestea, but I guess he rather give up than show a match in which he couldn't play his best.

And great job TL with the fast update. This is why I love this site.

Absolutely agree...i know koreans are all for honor and such...but this could easily turn into "drama queen power". As he said..they only QQed because it was his name in the match. If there's some honor in what koreans do..they should have shut up and let fans decide if what Naniwa did was right or wrong.

I bet u next time naniwa wins vs any korean they will still QQ. I have nothing against them nor am i a racist in any way..but seriously..they are taking things to far...and from my point of view how they reacted is no were even close to being "honorable"...quite the opposite. They were extremely rude and childish regarding a game that never counted.

If Nestea did the same thing they would say "oh pore guy..his moral was down let's support him"
U MAD BRO?

Been a Nani fan since one of his early games where he went DTs vs WhiteRa on Temple. He's done some dumb shit, but his play has always made me stay a fan.

And I will still stay a fan.

But this is disheartening.

In the professional world of sports, shit can happen, and I get that.
+ Show Spoiler +
In a old Formula 1 race, Senna had the championship won basically, but not on lockdown (a no point race, while his main rival won would have lost it) so Senna basically crashed his opponent in the first turn on the first lap to ensure that couldn't happen. Disgraceful? Maybe. A Professional 'win no matter what' mindset? I think so.

But honestly, fuck.... if the game doesn't matter, just do something dumb. Proxy dual stargate, or forge expand to his natural, or just 5 gate zealots. Anything. At least give a good time, or play an autopilot cheesy build. If you are too crushed to do something right, I get that... but you ARE a professional. And professionals do their job.

I'll stay a fan... but a lot of respect was lost.

You are absolutely right. professional gamers are fallible.
This was a mistake on Naniwa's part. Thus, Naniwa is fallible.
Naniwa is being himself.

-idra throws his match against jinro
omg this is actually so smart, he cantwin on this map anyway and it might have worked
-idra throws his match against mc
zerg isnt supposed to beat protoss anyway
-idra refuses to play his IPL3 group matches
omg this is so smart, this way he doesnt have to show his builds and he can rest more, only idra can think of something this smart

I'll probably get warned/permabanned for this but it needs to be said

If you want eSports to be taken seriously, and "professionally" you can't have players purposely throwing matches no matter of their importance. You don't see any sports team throw the last game of the season even if they know they won't make the playoffs. Sure, they will not put forth a 100% effort - but they still play the game to win.

People love to win, and it appears that Naniwa only cares about winning money - no love for the game, just the cash.

a very legitimate point concerning the 4-gate. Naniwa is sometimes surprisingly good with words, and sometimes terrible with PR. Crazy how he fits both so well

Nope, people are reacting because he worker rushed. Simple as that. Some are just overreacting too much though.

this guy has the mentality of a loser. in many sports leagues the winners have already been decided mid-way through the season, yet weaker teams still give it their all so that their fans get their money's worth.

the fact that he needs some ostensible prize to play for instead of providing a decent game to the viewers shows how pathetic he is. still, i won't lie - it was pretty funny to watch. however he could have done stupid things as a manner gg instead of throwing it away right from the start.
There is no such thing is "e-sports". There is Brood War, and then there is crap for nerds.

I don't get why GOM made them play in the first place. IIRC in the up/down groups they always skipped the unneeded matches.
