Hmm I don't see him winning any in the blizzard cup seeing as there will be more practice against his style. I have the feeling that he only did well at IPL3 because the korean players had never ever heard of him before and they underestimated him. When competing in the korean environment, where players have more time to prepare for specific matches, I think his lack of work ethic/practice will hurt him even more. Honestly, I don't think he can get out of the first round unless he gets really lucky.

Besides that prediction, looking back to dreamhack and MLG he didn't perform very well, so I can't really understand how he's any better (or special as the OP puts it) than some other players who got lucky one tournament and then dropped off the face of the earth.

His work ethic has improved since he moved to Korea. He streamed for 5+ hours a few days ago and laddered after, off stream.
Why would you ever choose failure, when success is an option.

So he's a really good player because he doesn't practice? Practice hour to success ratio means jack shit. Only thing that matters is how good you actually are, and everything else is just an excuse. He's a good player, but it's not because he's lazy, and that shouldn't be a good thing.

He has a brain too, you know? He can do the exact same thing than his opponents. Learn their style, find their failure and beat them. Plz don't forget it.

But i agree to your second point, i can't understand how he's better. I just can see how he could beat them. It's possible and it might appen.

There is absolutely zero basis for this statement. Players like MVP and Nestea objectively have far more impressive results than Stephano. You're entitled to your opinions, but let's just say that not all opinions are created equal.

Stream bias. If they saw Nestea or Leenock FPVOD they'd shit their pants.

Did we forget that Stephano also got raped at DH 2nd group stage?

0-2 Naniwa, 0-2 Sheth (think he got swept) and 1-2 Cloud.

I don't know about best, or most talented, but Stephano is without doubt the player most in tune with his race that I have ever seen in SC2.

I remember vividly watching some random ladder game of his, spread all over Typhon and facing a pretty decent Terran. At one point, in the midst of all kinds of other goings-on mid-map, he boxed some lings and directed them to an apparently arbitrary spot near his fourth. A few seconds later a medivac heaved to and proceeded to unload marines directly into the maw of the waiting swarm. Somehow he had turned a vulnerabilty of Zerg into a strength, by perfectly anticipating his opponent's attempt to exploit it.

To achieve that kind of depth of understanding on so little practice is, to me, phenomenal. He makes Zerg look effortless.
The existence of a food chain is inescapable if we evolved unsupervised, and inexcusable otherwise.

Wow, so after your incredibly stupid post suggesting that Stephano need to go to Korea, you now feel the need to point out some tournament he didnt win. Yeah he didn't win every tournament ever, what a noob. Way to go man.

Aren't 'best player in the world' threads suppose to happen only after the player has recently(1 day) won something? I think OP got tired of sitting on what he wrote and decided to just copy-paste.

Stephano had been well-known in the European scene for quite a long time before IPL3. He was perhaps the best known user of ling/infestor mid-game compositions besides Destiny, and was far more successful.

Stop referencing Incontrol's knowledge as some sort of benchmark for a player's success. Many other people in the EU scene knew how good Stephano was far before he won IPL3.

Even though Stephano only practiced 3 hours a day he is extremely analytic of his own play. He gained a lot more out of that time than a player who simply mass ladders to retain his mechanics. It has zero to do with time and everything with approach.

Almost every successful EU SC2 pro and tons of Korean players have roots in WC3, so I don't know where this garbage assertion that "WC3 players suck at SC2" comes from.

I'm pretty sure they're only supposed to happen when that player is *officially* the best player in the world. Like one about MVP.

In other words, there should have never been one about Stephano.

Didn't think I would need to bring that up, but yeah, I was dead wrong. Didn't see him going to Korea anywhere.

You're completely putting words in my mouth. Talking about Stephano like he is a fucking god because he beat Code A players and beat 1 guy on ladder does not mean he is the best ever. He got DESTROYED. It wasn't even close for him making it out of group stages.

Fanboy much?

I'll edit in that he did in fact beat MMA. Still a bit of controversy around that game I seem to recall though.

I pray to god no foreigner + Hero wins the blizzard cup because then there's gonna be so many god damn posts about them being the best player in the world. Too many people seem to have selective memories.

Amazing that you write that sentence right after 'you're putting words in my mouth'. That is classy as fuck dude, well done.
