Without their top class players to aid them in training its pretty much equivalent to ladder practice or just having a few basic practice partners; certainly not enough gain to warrent such a massive financial investment. One could argue that any practice, even practice against those who are not the best, is good. "B-Team" players should be playing "A-Team" (like MR. T for example) players, sure, but if one is not available they should definitely play each other.
Also, and this is me assuming here, I don't think that someone who is not privy to the specifics of the situation (perhaps you are and I don't know) should comment on it too much. We don''t know how much EG is spending on the individual players, how much those individual players are necessarily improving by being in the house, or whether or not the financial investment is "warranted".
Also, and this is the last one I swear, it makes PERFECT sense to send your best players to play and train with the best.

yet their top-players also need to play against other top-players to raise their own level. the whole idea behind a team house (especially EG's teamhouse) has been stated many times. everything has to have its start in some way or another, and who are we to say that EG has no plan in terms of how often or who they'll send to have a workshop in KR? on SotG they have a conversation that tackles a thread which basically tries to say that the EG house has not been worth it.
when you are playing a racquet sport for your school's team, is it completely useless for the rest of your team for you to go out and schedule private coaching for yourself?

Lol... its not a massive financial investment. First of all they rent the house - which is extremely different from buying a house. Second, the house is sponsored by Beyond Gaming.
