Holy hell, this is not good for a huge number of reasons as has been stated before me.

Hopefully this doesn't hurt E-sports too much :/

I don't understand how this is match fixing in technical terms. Seems to me Coca let Byun win a won game so Byun gets a chance at Code A. How is this any different from when OgsTheWind handing OgsSuperNova a won game? Only diff I see is Byun/Coca is stupid enough to chat about it in game lol.

Yes it's wrong, but people are definitely overreacting imo. It's a misstep but not big enough to ruin the career of a rare promising zerg

*edit: wait, there isn't even a code A spot for this? Can someone confirm/deny? If there isn't then this is definitely even worst; he doesn't deserve this form of punishment.

I dunno to me this seems like a massive over reaction and a small misstep by Coca has given him such severe punishment, he probably didn't even think of consequences such as this.

Match fixing = agreeing to do it before-hand. That's what 'fixing' means.

to be fair compared to Nestea most people might as well not have brains...regardless of what they do.

Yeah, fun fact he's not even talking about the match fixing he's talking about Rocket Scientists.

Honestly the punishments seem over the top. The BW scandal, was entirely different and involved vast sums of money and much more important matches.

Plus CoCa and Byun are both still quite young to make stupid mistakes--- they obviously didn't realize how big an issue it was, chatting in game about it. Nobody would chat about it if they didn't think it was a big deal... that's not even attempting to hide it.

Right, so if Tiger Woods walked out of a Satellite tournementto give his spot to his friend (since he's already) qualified, announcing it on live television in the same manner as in this case, he should have no consequences at all?

My pro-golfer friend would totally have a screaming fit... seriously.
What they did was so fucking disrespectful it is not even funny.
At the very least, forfeit to some shit excuse, at least show you respect the tournament and the work to organise it.

I mean, can you imagine all that work of running and organising a contest and a contestant mid-event announces, "I'm going to forfeit so my friend here can advance. I'm going to go now, Peace y'all".
Their stunt was a huge slap in the face of the organisers and the sponsors.
Any wonder Boxer was mad.

This ESV had no Code A spot for the winner. Coca literally forfeited the game because he thought it would be funny/wanted to continue bullshitting with Byun. He and Byun were just being dumbass kids playing video games non-seriously during a serious tournament.

If you think that that level of immaturity is acceptable and an appropriate perspective on a game that people are trying to make a profession out of (especially when you're playing on Boxer's team), then I don't think you understand how serious tournaments and sports are in general.

You realize what they did is technically match-fixing right? No, they didn't plan it ahead of time, but they still ended up cheating the system and breaking the rules by having one person lose on purpose so that the other person could automatically progress to the next round. You can't laugh it off as "Oh they're just being kids" when you have players playing for tens of thousands of dollars in similar tournaments and relying on everyone playing by the rules and not throwing games.

And dammit, I really liked Coca. But seriously, what an idiotic thing for him to do.

so what would you call this? throwing a game? you make no sense, This is match fixing. It was intentional of coca to loose the game.

I'd call it throwing a game. No third-party money involved, no premeditated "I'm going to lose so you can advance." Not match-fixing, IMO.

Did CoCa benefit in anyway leaving the game? no

Did the BW match-fixers benefit from what they did? Absolutely

Why in the world is a Code S player playing in a tournament, which has a grand prize of a Code A spot, in the first place?

This case is also a good one to make example of, because it isn't serious. That is right, Coca and Byun will be returning soon enough, and no real harm is done to the sc2 scene. It is perfect case to serve as a warning with no damage done.

If real match fixing happened, not matter how harsh the punishment is, it would be deal a huge blow to starcraft 2. Just view this as a positive thing.

No damage huh? Except to CoCa who is now out of the opportunity to make 40K in Code-S and another 50K in Providence. But hey that is nothing at all! All is good!

Ban him from ESV but he shouldn't be kicked out of his home and forced out GSL.

I'm talking from the scene's perspective. Face it, the money wouldn't be there in the first place without a clean and well supported scene from the public. Players salary and prize money are from those.

I wouldn't call it match-fixing, that's generally a predetermined result, which this wasn't. I would however call it incredibly stupid and irresponsible of both players involved.

It is considered match-fixing and due to last year's gigantic scandal in Brood War, they had to come down hard on Coca. Coca and Byun were close friends on ZeNex, and they were just having fun on an online tournament. They're both young and were just playing around. Coca probably thought it was no big deal, just having fun with his buddy and then it all blew up in his face.

Really sucks. I had him sixth in my Power Rank. Now he is out of the GSL entirely. Sad day.

This isnt match fixing, leaving a game to let someone win doesn't benefit you at all.

You greatly overestimate how much the Korean public actually cares about SC2.
