You are right. Maybe it isn't the smartest investment in terms of selfish gain, but in the long run issues like this only benefit the SEA e-sports community. It has radically grown already, and will only further do so.

This is just sickening to read now. It's fucking pathetic to see what people will do once they realize the money involved. I hope they find some breach of contract terms and sue him

i was literally rushing to get to the venue because i didn't want to be late! lo and be hold i was more than early make that ~6hours early =( what a waste of time, precious working hours wasted. we all know about the technical difficulties that could have been avoided with adequate planning and event trouble shooting.
im really thankful for all the unsung heroes who worked frantically behind the scenes to pick up the pieces of the train wreck which was day 1.
i just hope that the e-sports community stand by the Philippines and those who want to promote e-sports in general. Hopefully this doesn't define the e-sports scene here, because we have great organizers e.g. Mineski and KtgameOne, i know we will pull through this mess. my prayers to those who need help right now
Same story for me.. i am a freelance 3d artist and i have projects that day. Just to support E-Sports in the Phil,. i set aside my work and went to the venue. Just to witness the worst disaster in PH e-sports history.
nonetheless i still love SC2 and will still support Local e-sports community.

This exactly. Every enterprise is going to have its issues, ranging from minor hiccups to major obstacles and snafus that really strain the limits of the business, its funding and its consumers. But (to use a highly cliched quote), what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. The aftermath of this event will be twofold. On a direct basis, Gus Ledesma will be without a doubt blacklisted by IGN and quite possibly any other major tournament name trying to expand to the SEA region. And while that's a good thing, the great thing that will come out of this whole mess will be the knowledge that there are good people who can run a tournament (like Dox), a great community willing to step in and do whatever it takes to keep a tournament running (see: everyone who managed to put together the duct-taped stream that was the Pacific Qualifiers), and a supportive community who wants to see SEA eSports make a name for itself.

I know you quoted me but replied to youngminii but I thought I'd respond anyway.
The problem with the current SEA scene is that it's actually a lot smaller than it used to be. Back in the day WCG, ESWC, ACON, WGT were all huge here with a lot of sponsors and money to go around. Our biggest problem now is generating interest and showing that that interest can be converted into commercial interest for would-be sponsors. The tragedy of this tournament, for me at least, is having to explain to potential supports that this is definitely not the norm in SEA.
That being said we have an awesome scene at the moment and now that we're recovering a bit GFC-wise, we should see a lot more room for companies to throw some money our way. I vote for fireworks on Sydney Harbor again :D

This kind of shit is unacceptable. Was there, or was there not a contract obliging AZK to fly the qualifier of the tournament to the event?

This post is addressed to some of my fellow Filipinese (it's Filipino, if you're IGNORANT about the subject matter, STFU and LEAVE) who have any sort of beef against Augustus.
The point of all of this is the aftermath of the PPSL as a subject matter and people with issues that are DIRECTLY involved in the PPSL.
In the event that you have personal beef (I know some of you does, example, he called you a Douchebag at a certain point of life, that might not exactly be unwarranted, and you probably deserve it during that time) with Gus, hitting him when everyone who's DIRECTLY involved in the PPSL only conveys what kind of insecurity and ego issues you have. We don't need people saying "I'm holding my info blah blah" because you're not shedding any ounce of clarity to the entire muddle which is the aftermath of the PPSL-IPL4 Qualifier-Fiasco.
Although it's quite obvious already that Gus won't be seeing the light of any E-SPORTS related event (not even my Grandson's Christening that's going to happen in a NET-CAFE when we play StarCraft Fantasy 7 </sarcasm>), let's be clear here--he's not the only person acting on this one. I can't give credit to one man and the amount of damage ONE MAN can do. It's just galactically impossible to have orchestrated this entire thing ALONE. He had rep back then and "forces" to back him up too. He was in the IPL3 and all other 'hints' that he can bluff his way into doing something he cant, because he's not alone. This messed up at a certain point and he's not the only one responsible here, he's the FIGUREHEAD indeed but really, we don't exactly know what kind of strings are running behind-the-scenes. Only a little bird can tell us.
And for some factual, clarity:
--He's already with TheGunRun at the time of this writing. So I strongly suggest people who have minor beef with him to put a creamy sock on it for a while. --TheGunRun bailed out the guy who owed the hotel.
It's a developing situation. And I really would like to request the mods to warn people who's posting non-directly-related shit because things are already muddle as is, we don't need anymore mind games and your Illuminati-esque revelations if you're not saying squat. Please, LEAVE.

I organised many of the events you listed and each time we suffered a severe financial deficit because we had to bite the bullet and accept that sponsors weren't willing to provide funding. I honestly feel we're on the precipice of our first legitimate boom during Q3/Q4 of 2012. That's my goal, anyway.

It was signed by a representative of Team AZK (my client) and myself (consultant).

is all of the flaming necessary? the dude is never doing an event again, SEA will take a hit, but bounce back no problem, and everyone involved got nice a huffy for a day.
This doesn't need to be this big of a deal. In the end it was IGN's fault for not having some type of oversight into their investments. 'Here take all this money, and do what you promised you would' how many times in other fields does this happen and work out for the best?
It doesn't.
Lesson here - don't give someone your money without ensuring that you are going to get what you want out of it.

Non directly related you say? But it IS all directly related. I knew gus when he was starting out this little thing of his. I was with John and KTS Game Media in the first event The TEAM AZK OPEN INVITATIONAL tournament they had. Remember, I CASTED that gig?
If you read John's statement it said that he was HIRED to do that event right? HIRED. meaning his services will be exchanged for monetary returns. So everything was set up. But look what happened the night before
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/RY0kd.jpg)
Yep. he went behind John's back. Gave me a PM and tried to go back in his word. I wouldn't put up with it so I talked John into doing it Pro-bono just to help out Team AZK and Philippine Esports. You want to know what happened during the tournament?
Just take a loot at what happened The other day. It's basically the same damn thing. He has been doing this a LOT. And I mean A LOT. I have just kept my voice silent because deep inside I wanted him to succeed because it will help eSports in the PH grow. Each time he messed up, we went behind the scenes, helped him cleaned up and hope for the best. and look what he did.
LOOK AT WHAT THAT FUCKER DID?

None of it is IGN's fault. What's IGN supposed to do, hold Gus' hand and walk him through the whole thing? IGN was a sponsor not a fucking escort or a training program. Also, "Here take my money and do what you promised" is what ALL BUSINESSES PRACTICE. Because, I'm not sure if you've heard, there's this thing called a contract; a written agreement between two or more parties. It's PPSL's job is to handle the tournament. IGN helped by providing resources. Further IGN involvement would cost more time/money/human resources which would not make it PPSL but an IPL event.

Well the flaming bit is us clamoring for answers. Well that's what I want. If we get all the details then the community will know the future warning signs. Also, I think it also gives light to what needs to be in place for somewhat "medium-large" scale live events for people for people who look into it. The DOs and DONTs.
IPL already said they made a mistake in putting too much trust in him and as such withheld the remaining 50% of sponsorship promises to deal with aggrieved parties.
As for those that say that Gus is handling/handled the hotel the hotel already, well, all I can say is this. If he were a decent human being (this being the a day after the event), he would have dealt with it already instead of putting Clide in a tough spot.
Second, there was mention of the hotel but not the compensation for airfare already spent (12k usd). What's to be done about it? Amanda has to shoulder the payment until Gus finds a way to pay her back which would be WHEN exactly?
Even before the event, he already had criticisms from a few people, Day 1 of the event he had a lot more. Day 2 it still continued and after the event, Day 3, what has been his top priority, trying to save his rep and deleting/closing his FB account to the general public while failing to address to more pressing matters like keeping up with commitments.
Honestly, his priorities seem only self serving and skewed. He should gotten wind of that from the get go, Day 1 or Day 2 if he was low in EQ. But it's Day 3 and we still have the irresponsible person ever absent at the helm.
