He overcommitted to defending his prize money?

Actually they do have the power through us. After this thread weve seen some of the organizers started posting here assuring that they will get their money in short time.

This is nothing new brother~ I feel for ya Carlo, i haven't been paid what i had earned on many occasions, and it is not only the tournaments but also some teams when parting way with players that refuse to pay what is owed. That's why whenever someone ask me if they should become progamer i recommend to them to really think twice about it

It's really sad that price money that has been promised can't or take a really long time to get paid out. I know exactly what you're talking about, I still have ~900€ from LANs dating moths back that hasn't been payed =(, and it's pretty damn annoying.

man, this is basically what killed CPL and a lot of other game events. It's sad, i don't understand... why even put out a prize pool if it can't be fulfilled?

Maybe the organisers think you'll make more from stream/passes but it turns out you don't. I find it hard to believe that sponsors wouldn't pay up if you put the agreement to paper.

Which teams and events? People are trying to bring attention to this so you might as well say something and maybe you'll get some answers.

Wow, this is actually a huge deal.

What is with sponsors not paying up? Totally rediculous. Perhaps said sponors should be slammed?

To anyone who is qualified to answer: How long does it take Blizcon to payout? Perhaps that would be a reasonable standard.

There is other tournaments that are already paying early enough. Standard or not, the players shouldn't be waiting for their prize money longer than 4months imo. Even three is already a long time.

I would assume Blizzard pays fairly fast.

So you want to piss on the people providing the money to a video game tournament because of a delay in payment? That's a great idea. I'm sure that will attract tons of people to the scene and more and more sponsors will be lining up to get their name on the list so they can get pissed on by unreasonable people who have no actual bussiness passing judgement on the situation.

Yeah but there's really no excuse not to have that cash available immediately. Why wouldn't they? Otherwise it kinda implies they are offering prizes they don't actually have the money to cover when they organize the tournament.

Thought I'd put out my 2 cents.

I used to play Quake under the nickname of rocketbear. I played in some online tournaments and as stated earlier in this thread ESL does pay out but for me it took 6months average. (The prizes was no big amounts though)

What i don't get.

Most of these winnings aren't even that big...
I mean, that an organisation might needs some time to pay out 20k+ is sort of understandable... But winings under 1000 Euro? WTF?

Tweet from Dreamhacks Owner/CEO

*sigh* Organisations that delay/don't pay their players or send an invoice. Me thinks that pitchforks are pointed the wrong way. ^^

Does he meen that teams are not doing their job? Teams holding on to price money, not sending tournaments invoices in time.

I do think he means that he got the exact same problem as the players, but he needs to get paid by the sponsors.

Would be nice if he explains whats he means....instead of letting us speculate.

If the pitchfork is pointed the wrong way, that would mean that if it is turned around it is pointed at player/teams

Edit: He might be talking about DH only, I know they demand an Invoice for the price money for tax reasons etc. If they don't get a invoice, they can't pay. If the Invoice is from the team, they can't force the team to pay their player.

i also think its some kind of sponsor problem. but why do the players have to "harrass" the organisations, why dont their teams help them?
