From Sleep's twitter:
Bye slayers~
I leave slayers and new foriegn team finding..
Check is also no longer associated with Prime. Twitter:
@checkpooh Check hyung, did you leave Prime team?
@marconofrio yes leave team Also he requested a name change to have Prime removed from his TL account name.
Both pretty good players now without teams, with Sleep publicly saying he is looking for foreign teams its not much of a stretch to think Check is considering the same thing.
|
You want this thread turning into a guess thread?
|
imo fanatic needs some zerg now
|
Hmm interesting. Didn't really think both of these players are really good to be honest. Hope they land a team soon.

Calling it now... QIMSleep

I already made a prediction that Check would leave prime and become the first widely recognized bonjwa of SC2 :3 It's all coming together now, step by step. Bit by bit.

It would be interesting to see Liquid pick up Sleep. I feel that Sleep is very underrated right now, qualifying for IPL3 and holding a 1-1 match record with Hero. He was eliminated from IPL by MMA, who has very strong TvZ.

That's surprising.
I hope this doesn't turn into a Stephano-esque dramafest.

I think Fnatic would be a good fit for either. Without Sen they have been lacking zerg.

MouzCheck would be fun Mouzcheck check mouse please

very odd that these two relatively middle tier zerg think they will attract attention from the foreign teams... gl to both of them though.

Oh i'm pretty sure that they will be a valuable addition to any team they join. Rain was seen as a mediocre player who uses cheese to get far in GSL. He made some nice MLG runs that have shown that he is a pretty good player. I'm sure Sleep and Check will be a good addition for any team.

I hope foreign teams recognize how much of a beast Check is, top 5 kr zergs easily imo.

Check has never been in Code B . . . ever. He had good enough of a Code A run to get into up-and-downs and is in Code A for November.

I don't think I would seed Check as being stronger than NesTea, LosirA, DRG, July, or Curious. But hey, your opinion is your own.
Not to be a negative nancy, but I don't think neither Check nor Sleep will be good fits in foreign teams, especially top-tier ones. The reasoning I give for this is that their individual-league performances have been severely lack-luster, compared to the other select-few Koreans already on Foreigner teams or in Team Partnership Programs, whom although have all shown signs of slumps, still generally are top-rated (Puma, MC, Hero, Nada, DRG).
Best of luck to their future plans in SC2.

Check has actually looked pretty beastly recently. Much improved over his older showings. Must of had this move in mind for a while and ramped up his play. Much like pro players do in the last year of their contract before becoming a free agent.

I thought Check quit so he could become the coach of a high school SC2 Team? That's what I heard...

I misread Check's history. Apparently he's been stuck in Code A forever. So yeah, I guess he isn't in Code B. But definitely not top 5.

I wonder when foreign teams will realize that having a Korean flag next to your TLPD profile doesn't necessarily make you good. Tandongho, Hwangsin and Artist have done nothing of note since joining foreign teams. Whatever skill Check and Sleep have right now will erode away within a few months just like it did for Rain.

Agreed with this, the best foreigners are getting good by practicing with Korean teams, so taking players away from that practice environment and expecting them to do well is a little misguided.
Although RGN now has a team house near Oakland so at least they're trying to replicate that environment.

Ah, nvm. I was not kiddin' but I was mistake because I though Artist managed to make it out of the pool play in mlg. Well, that Gix managed to beat Huk in a bo5 certainly deserves respect. As for the rest, well none of them have been performing really well in the last few months.
Anyways, I am looking forward to what teams check and sleep will join. Though I am kind of irritated because I seem to get the impression that several Koreans deliberately join foreign teams hoping it will be easier (which is hopefully just a stupid impression by an even more stupid leecher).
|
I knew about Sleep but now Check too? Wow, maybe they'll join the zerg-needed Fnatic as suggested before.

Yes. Foreign teams should be fostering the development of the foreign SC2 scene. Resources are limited and when a foreign team takes in a Korean that's one less foreigner they could be accommodating instead. Koreans are expensive because you have to fly them from halfway across the world to compete in MLG, IPL, etc. This would be justifiable if said Korean did well in tournaments and brought the team publicity like Puma for EG and Hero for Liquid. I don't think Sleep and Check are on their level.

I'm not gonna sit here and argue that Check is better than Hero or Puma, but at least Check has been a solid code A player and has at least graced the up and down matches and almost got in too. Sleep isn't good, but to say Check is on a level below Hero and Puma? On what basis?
Also, everyone is flying across the god damn world, but if you try to sponsor bad players and put them in tournaments they won't magically become good. Their skill level is just lower, not that they just don't have tournament experience. Bringing in good quality players can only help your team improve.

I recall while watching Check lose a game, that Artosis was saying he felt bad for him because he wanted to win a title, or have a good run before having to serve in the military.
I could be wrong, maybe just my memory. But if that's the case, I wonder how long he has before he's done playing SC2, at least temporarily? It'd be hard to join a foreign team if he's going to stop soon.
I will add that he is pretty good. To be honest, I'd put him at or slightly above Rain's level - that's easily enough for foreign team material (even if he seems like shit in Korea, the competition there is insane)

Throw in the new BW teams as possibilities. They would pay for experienced talent to speed up the training process in whatever way they can.

Yet all those koreans still perform really well for their team relative to their other members. Should they hold a different standard for who they recruit just because they're korean?
What accomplishment has Hero had that you call him better than Check? Check has a much better GSL record than him. He has been in every GSL, while Hero had a hard time even qualifying. He dropped to Code A, but almost made it back to Code S in a very tough up and down group, only losing to Losira after 3 tie breakers.

Anyone know what their reasons were? For Sleep, I really don't think that leaving SlayerS for a foreign team would hold anything necessarily positive. SlayerS has already joined up with EG, if he was just looking to get into the foreign scene I'm sure that EG would do their best to get him over to the house.

DRG didn't finish 4th at MLG, finished 3rd. 4th place can't get Code S. And he didn't get knocked out of Code A. He just didn't make it to up-and-down matches. If he hadn't got Code S through MLG, he would be in Code A again next season.
Regardless of all that, Check is a very good Zerg, and has recently improved a lot.

i agree, as soon as they leave that korean training environment they really arent better than any other foreign player
tandongho/rain/hwangsin all have about a 50-60% winrate in international tournaments, and rain is a former code S player..

I know nothing about sleep but check is very tatented player not just with zerg but with all races. I have always felt that he lacks motivation, however, and I wonder why he chose to leave prime. In any case if I where a manager of a foreign team I would try to pick him up right away.

From what I've read, check left prime because he's coaching another team (not sure which team though), so I doubt he's actively looking for a foreign team.

Anyways no matter how unsuccessfull check and sleep is (the latter one recently managed to qualify for the ipl3 through a monstrous bracket though) they are still much better than the average member of most of the teams. And there is not a single team which does not invest money it at least one player worse than those two.

Yep, but they had insiders, living with him, basically they knew exactly what they "bought". And Hero is cute <3 Check was really good last GSL season, but how much can a foreign team really know about him ? That's the hard part. They can't be recruited only for their name value, and they can't also be recruited because of inside informations. What I mean is, they're a lot more risky acquisition for a team than Hero, even if he was unknown while they're not.

Not a good comparison to use HerO for several reasons.
1. HerO WAS more well known than Sleep. 2. He lived at the oGs house and became very close with Jinro and Huk so they had a natural connection with TL. 3. He also made friends with Haypro, Ret, and TLO when they were there.

I was wondering about this as well. The selection thing just seemed odd all around.
The Code A casters also mentioned he wasn't living in the team house or even practicing with them anymore (I think he was practicing with NSH instead?).
As for Sleep and Check, I don't know how easy it'll be for them. Most Koreans picked up by foreign teams seemed to be going abroad to live (Rain, Tandongho, Rgn.Phoenix) or really low profile (isCrazyMoving, Hwangsin, Artist) and hence cheap (wild guess)... or Hero (really special circumstances)
Sleep and Check don't really fit that profile, any good team is also going to want to know Check's military service status before signing him as well. Sleep to Complexity as their Stephano consolation Zerg does sound like a logistical fit though, especially since he could stay/play with MvP (another wild guess that the teams are that close to house each others players long-term).

Lets face it, I don't think Hero would even be a topic of discussion for a lot of posters here, if TL didn't pick him up. But I definitely think Sleep and Check have a lot bigger chance of being picked up by foreign team, than Hero did (aside from TL's choice of pickup).

That's a misunderstanding. He actually gets along really well with the rest of his team.
