Seems like if I hold an event called shady's backyard SC2 tournament offering free beers to the winner, people will just blindly support it for no reason at all. Oh please, take your strawman arguments and get out of this thread.
That's not a straw man, unless my interpretation of some people's arguments have been very poor. It seems to me that they equate anything that might put down viewership of esports (I take this as sc2) = bad, and I take it the opposite = good.
The idea of having to live with a fundamentally flawed game = bad, and fixing these flaws by complaining to blizzard = good, seems completely lost to them.
You could say that this game has potential, but the flaws that so many people have repeated in this thread have magically escaped Blizzard. I agree, this game has potential, but only if something major is done to it. Right now, my opinion is that it is quite bad.

Puma and Light were talking about Puma's red hair (if my skills at Google Translate tell me anything) Twitter exchanges are regular between BW and SC2 progamers btw, so it won't really tell much. i think the one involving gon is something to do with him going to the army today

Also, I'm not entirely sure if there will be united SC2 scene, at least in the beginning. Maybe they will have their own Kespa SC2 scene and never compete with the GSL scene, which would be sad.

I just want to see players like Flash and Jaedong play against MVP and Nestea to see if they can translate their sick BW skills to SC2.

Winner's league will be the more volatile competition, allowing new players to showcase their ability to break into the professional realm with SC2.
Since SC2 is a more international game than was SC:BW, it allows for more exposure of the players. Previously, the only way to know about SC:BW was if you had played the game prior, or knew about the Koreans. With SC2 being already more global than SC:BW, it's worth their investment of time to become acquainted with the game early on.
The international scene BW scene collapsed because of these BW "monsters". Meaning Koreans of course. If you think they are monsters that will eat up most of the foreign competition, then experience will say that the international interest will very quickly wane.

May just be a semantics thing, but to me, Progaming is just a term used for a game being played competitively and that players stand to win some money doing so. E-sports implies that people actually watch them.
Some areas do overlap, of course, but when competitive gaming takes a backseat to mass appeal, I think the line has to be drawn somewhere.

That's the BW herO? I saw Jinro play him on his stream Friday back to back in two long macro games on Shakuras and Metal, I remember thinking that he was really good. All I can say is AWESOME (well, for SC2 anyway...for BW not so much )
Oh, and Jinro won both games!

It's not out of the question skill wise but like anything else in life, the amount of time put in to something is usually a precursor to what you get out of it. Most importantly, the occasional SC2 players strategies will be outdated which is a no no in SC2. You can't just play better with an old strategy and still win vs. someone with comparable mechanics and a much more refined strategy. It won't work out well, even for the best of the best BW pros.

Why argue BW vs SC2?
It doesnt matter lol. It wont change anything. The transition is going to happen and it is likely to happen as early as HoTS release, maybe even before that. Die Hard BW fans cannot stop with that with their opinions.
So the BW fans wont transition with their players cause they dont like the game? Wow what a loss. It's okay, we only wanted the players in the first place.

What is Flash's Bnet2 profile? Is he any good at SC2 yet?

Hopefully the fan girls follow the BW pros. That's the biggest thing lacking in the SC2 scene. The crowds are 99% guys unlike the BW crowds that can be >50% girls.

As someone who plays and enjoys watching professional matches for fun, I just think "the more, the better" and all this "startcraft 2 is for noobs and kids" and "broodwar is for nostalgic tryhards" shitstorm makes me vomit... every gamer and everyone with a passion for starcraft should be happy about how the things are developing instead of investing time hating.

Initially they will follow their idols. But if the show isn't entertaining they will quit I fear.

You're not making any sense. If I don't like how Sc2 turned out, why should I support this? ...

I think there is a significant silent portion of the site (which I belong to), that love both BW and SC2. It's just not dramatic enough to gain attention.

SC2 is entertaining, and has only been getting moreso lately as the level of play has been rising.
People watched Boxer in life jackets play 1 base 80apm Terran at midnight in the early days of Broodwar. SC2 is already years ahead of that.

Well. Wow. I have to admit I never really paid attention to this, I figured "yeah sure, maybe the BW players are having some fun with sc2, maybe they're checking it out a bit" but WOW. This actually is starting to look pretty serious. Guess I never got that until now.
