Second, the term "phobia" seems inappropriate in the described context. Disgust and uneasiness is not "phobia", it's disgust and uneasiness. People suffering from phobia feel severe and irrational anxieties far beyond what is described in the OP. It's more than questionable that actually 10% of the TL users get high pulse and suffer from intense fears when they look at these holes, for the majority it's just autosuggestion and more general aversions.

seriously that unit will never be as ugly as some stuff in this video actually thoose turds jumping out of the holes were pretty disgusting but im quite sure The Swarmhost wont trigger any phobias

U ever heard someone complain that they have to delete spider mobs in WoW becuase of Arachnophobics? Well at least i didnt

I'll admit, when I first saw the swarm host I thought, "NOPE NOPE NOPE." There was a link on reddit to a video of a frog species that does a similar thing with its newly hatched young, and then I thought about the prevalence of different parasites and bacteria that bore through flesh and I realized.

The swarm host is awesome.

I love having that visceral part of me prodded. It makes me happy that the blizzard design team could come up with something so fundamentally zergish. It's gross, clever, and my favorite of the new units design wise. XD

I finished the whole thing, I honestly do not feel a fear of holes, I do however dislike watching living things moving in living things. But honestly the swarm host is just pixels for me.

For many (though perhaps not all) who have it, it’s probably not even a real phobia, which the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders says must interfere “significantly with the person’s normal routine.”

Sorry, but this is kind of retarded... Did they delete the spiders in WC3 because of arachnophobia? No, I don't think so. And arachnophobia is way more known and affects way more people than the phobia described here. If artists need to start thinking about every individual that could be offended by their art, this is definitely killing it.

Hell, I have a fear of spiders myself and I don't care playing games where there are spiders in it (and you know there are a lot of games like that), simply because it's cartoonish and not remotely close to being realist, in the same way the swarm host doesn't look like anything in the video at all.

I think that if you have a phobia related to in-game stuff, then you should stop playing and watching this game.
Anyway the Zerg race is supposed to be disgusting and repulsive, so if it successfully manages to scare some people then I say good job Blizzard.

edit; talking about spiders, man these Corpsers in Gears of War make me totally uncomfortable.

This is at best a minor problem. The Swarm Host is nowhere near as bad as some of the examples of trypophobia-inducing things. Moreover, during real games the intensity of the game would likely overpower any unease.

If you are a very serious sufferer from this supposed phobia, then any game involving Zerg probably isn't for you, and it's not something that changing the artwork on unit is going to solve.

What about mass burrow? When you unburrow there are some nasty and assymetric holes in the ground. Doesn't seem significant enough to require change.

I am digusted by the swarm host (ugly bubbles, looks dangerous) and the viper (the twitchy wing movement, the snake-like body bending.) That is one of the reasons I play zerg. They are disgusting.
