As you may know, TL was one of the sponsors of the Ultimate BarCraft event this weekend at Blizzcon. Unfortunately, today the organizers informed us that due to sponsor and venue complications, Ultimate BarCraft will be cancelled and they will be refunding all donations.
Our apologies to everyone who was looking forward to the event. We are as disappointed as you at the news of its cancellation but it appears nothing can be done at this point to save it.
For those still looking to meet up, there is a GSL Finals viewing party followed by a Live On Three episode at the "Friday Night BarCraft" event on Friday night (8:30 pm) at the Hilton. We'd encourage anyone who isn't attending the final live to head over there.
Not even remotely surprised. Everything about this sounded really, really off. Right from the donations, to the expected numbers and events going on at it. It just didn't sound right at all.
More props to LO3. That just mean's more people will tune into your guys show and more people will congregate with some of the best Esports proprietors out there. Of course this news stinks but I will still be thrilled to watch the show and see how the whole weekend goes. Love you guys on lo3.
I like how everyone only started posting after I did, which was twenty-five minutes after the thread was created. If I hadn't posted, would there have been several hundred people at Blizzcon who didn't get the message, wondering where the fuck Ultimate BarCraft was?
Am I the only who has the feeling that this has something to do wtih Blizzard ? I mean I'm pretty sure they wouldn't like 200 people watching the paid stream outside of their location . Maybe its just in my fantasy and then I am sorry for it but this crossed my mind

No, because certain person informed about this for 6-8k people.

Sigh. Was really REALLY looking forward to this. Would like to know the backstory. From what I understand, last year's was a success, and this year's seemed better organized. Maybe that's the key, less organization. If it's decentralized, no one can cancel it! :-(

This is a thread about dream crushing, don't you see it?
I'm was never really interested in it, but it must suck for those of you who were looking forward to it. Sorry for any one who had there heart broken by this news.

"Sponsor and venue complications"? That post sounds overly cryptic to me.
Now there's an event that headlining Live On Three.
This year's was better organized, and last year was a success. With the amount of interest, I'm feeling like something is fishy here.
Somehow, I can't shake the feeling that it's not a coincidence that EG is benefiting so much from this cancellation.

Doesn't sound cryptic to me. They couldn't find enough money to fund this and rent out the venue.
Well, I guess that frees up my schedule a little bit...

Its really bad that the barcraft got cancelled but you have to be kidding me. Paranoid much? I really hope everyone who's put out from this event finds somewhere else to go enjoy starcraft communally though, its the way forward

Where are you getting that information? There are a lot of other things involved in hosting an event like this. There are a hundred little places that wrenches could have been thrown in to put hiccups in the planning.
This thread almost already has as many replies as the original Ultimate Barcraft announcement thread.... fail promoting IMO for such a huge event where 10k + people was touted to be expected.

What do you mean? I'm getting my info from the OP. $$$$$ is the main issue. I don't know how much clearer kennigt's post could be without just stating that. Who cares about sponsors unless you need them for money? It's really not that hard to understand this is a funding issue. How much clearer do you want them to spell it out for you? You want them to give you the exact amount of money they fell short on? Of course they won't reveal that info.

EG is apparently getting really powerful and actually evil. Whenever something bad happens in the community the EG conspiracy theories pop up. Before long EG will be responsible for the European debt crisis.

EG, the NPO of E-sports.
(you are a nerd if you get the reference)
Sad to see this happened, I hope next time the venue can be worked out because it's far too awesome an idea to abandon completely.

If you have a Blizzcon pass you can go watch the finals live. If you don't you can go to the viewing party and watch together with others that didn't have a pass either.
Why can't we make this happen? The starcraft community has raised so much money for other things. I don't see why we can't contribute to Ultimate Barcraft.

Dang, this makes me sad. I was really looking forward to volunteering at Ultimate Barcraft. Hopefully the viewing party at the Hilton will be a good time.
The SC community is generous, but that high a figure I think discouraged people from even thinking of donating. And since it was a live event, most wouldn't have bothered knowing they couldn't/wouldn't be going anyways.
Didn't seem like a good way of funding that, if it was truly going to be that big it needed some kind of sponsorship imo

I agree. I donated to the mkp to orlando fund, but I wouldn't donate to a barcraft so everyone could have fun without me!
that's incredibly disappointing. Hopefully the other barcrafts that are going on can be more amazing, to pick up the slack from the gaping void that was ultimate barcraft
I was actually looking forward to this more than BlizzCon. I see no special coming out of BlizzCon other than just another tournament with MVP expected to stomp everything and some pretty useless HOTS leaks. Not very relevant for the future of ESPORTS that I was hoping to come out of this Ultimate Barcraft event.
the ultimate barcraft is cancelled because it happend in montreal last week its now called the second ultimate barcraft and its being cancelled once again
Yeah this was going to be the highlight of the after-parties. I'm pretty torn from staying in the convention center and watching or going to the Hilton.

Lol my GF JUST suggested I do the same, but the internet speeds from the hotel rooms aren't awesome and as much as I want to drink, I also want to watch fast-paced SC2 action.
Sad news indeed. :/ The event had lots of problems (lack of publicity until it was a few weeks before the actual event; a (perceived) lack of proper organisation; lack of co-operation from Blizzard, etc.) but it would have been awesome nevertheless.
poor planing. And how is it it gets canceled so close to the actual Event? (I believe the problems must have been known for some time) I`m really sad for all the people looking forward to this and I hope this kind of "huge" announcement will not be repeated until such a project is fully funded and secured in every way.
I highly doubt that there would have been enough people going unfortunately. Getting basement dwelling nerds to go to a games convention is one thing, getting them to go to a bar afterwards is... pretty difficult. I hope however that some of you (and me too if something actually happened in australia) will take the leap and go and socialise with people who also enjoy your passion!

You realize that Blizzcon usually sells out within minutes after being available. Also barcrafts has been successful for events like MLG and IPL. I'm sure attendance is not the issue

This doesn't prove true anymore. IPL3 had SC2 gamers all over the bars. The stereotype is getting old and if you keep reinforcing it like that you're just perpetuating the stereotype that gamers have to all be socially awkward.

Yeah I completely agree...Gamers will always be "nerdy" but that doesn't mean we're hiding out in the dark like vampires. I personally have a job, school, a girlfriend, and I work out..all the while making my rise on the SC2 ladder with at least 6 hours of practice a day.

Are you me? :O what you describe is that you are the same like me :O nerds vs the stereotype 1- 0
Makes me wonder if Ultimate Barcraft was reaching too far with this huge ass free party. I'm curious what made last year's so successful, and this years falter?

I'm probably not in the business of speaking for others but they needed to secure a certain large amount of money that was not acquired in time.

There's still a viewing party and a LIVE Live on 3 at the Hilton which is located ~10 feet away from the Anaheim Convention Center, where Blizzcon will be.

I'm not quite sure what's happening but I think the viewing party is still up but the panels might not be? Does anyone know if the viewing party is being held inside a bar? If so, can people under 21 enter?
I really think that this event didn't need the hype. It would have went much better if it was promoted exclusively outside the convention center. The turnout may have been much less but you guys need to start out small. Blizzcon is a massive event. I'm sure Blizzard would have been able to accomodate people who couldn't attend the event.
I'm not saying that we all have to be basement dwelling nerds (when I was in my teens I went to an all boys school and became literally incapable of looking/talking at/to a girl apart from family so I can definitely relate to social difficulties that come with the stereotype), and I use this term just because it's fun, not to piss anyone off as a lot of you may have misunderstood, most of us know ourselves that we don't live in a basement, I've been referring to myself as a nerd even when going out for many years now trying to give people the impression that gamers go out and do stuff and are people with souls too. You should be proud of who you are and what you do, that's why me and other friends each other all sorts of dorky names (the stereotypes) and constantly make jokes about it. If you feel angry about my post then obviously you're not comfortable with who you are or aren't very good at taking jokes. The latter is fine but the former is unacceptable! If you're not proud of being a nerd then you are changing yourself for the worse imo.
However I don't really care if you say the stereotype isn't there because it is. I have struggled for many years with getting my friends to go out anywhere simply because they don't feel comfortable in a bar/club/whatever environment (I'm not going to force them to go), as they've got older it has become less of a problem but that's only because they are 24-25 years old with careers, some of them still don't want to go out though. So of course we would get together at somewhere familiar like a friend's place which is fine too but that's besides the point for what we are discussing.
I still think that Ultimate Barcraft had a problem with numbers, yeah if all of your friends are going then you probably will go, but if you go by yourself how comfortable will you feel about that?
Please prove me wrong and give some other clarification why the event was cancelled.

The only reason it was canceled because the funding didn't go through. http://mannerhearts.chipin.com/tl-community-meetup They only raised 1,629.55 out of $30,000 need for the expense like buying food renting the venue. There is no way they can cover the rest of the money on their own.
Thanks for the clarification. So, what we really need to happen is perhaps several smaller events, like the one that many of the teams are sponsoring to replace this one. That's a very steep price, I'm sure something could be organised with a lot less expenses. But I think it's pretty hard to be able to raise that money since there will be little to no financial input from your average joe.
Perhaps SC2 players could just, all meet at a bar and take over lol? If they have any sort of projection or TV set up (which is like, every bar in the states that I ever went to) I know that our community has the expertise and probably even the gear to turn a sports bar into an Esports bar.
