Might be cool to have a siege tank esque unit but to make it Z...
Make it roll so it moves really fast, but then have it do a lot less dmg/splash then a normal siege tank. Something about shooting acid blasts that explode and do aoe sounds like it could be really cool granted that it actully fits the Z style and the game(More important).
Not to make it even sound more like a lurker.. But I really hope Z gets a unit that can attack while burrowed. I really liked the concept of "Oh that expansion looks undefended lets push in, 2 seconds later the enemie armie is completely destroyed by underground Z units.

My guesses: Morphs from roach Burrows/roots to attack with a long range acid-cannon type weapon
Probably/Maybe: Linear splash a la hellion... or [cough]lurker[/cough] Lair tech Visible when sieged
It's not a tank; the abdomen is way too detached to be convincing protection. I'd also put an awful lot of money on it not morphing from the hydra; its face is really not that hydra-like, and the roach matches the rest of its physiology a lot better.

It's a silhouette, but who says that's the front of it? Perhaps they are throwing us of by showing the back of it.

Roach Catapult, that's what i think and it would make sense from a gameplay perspective. If it fires acid, rocks or you can load it with banelings, i don't know!

It probably shoots destructible rocks.

I didn't play much SC1, but as far as I could tell a Lurker was just a unit that burrowed and lifted spikes up from the ground, right? Can someone tell me why these units get so much hype? It seems like they would be cannon fodder once Terran scans and Protoss just needs an obs with it's army.
Could someone please explain why a Lurker seems to be a particularly desirable unit? It seemed bad to me in my eeexxtremely limited SC1 experience. Brings the concept of map control and positioning to the forefront again. They are also awesome against unmicro'd 1-a clumps of units, which we see too much of in SC2. You mean like burrowed banelings?
Yes.
Except one is game changing / shaping and the other is a bit of a gimmick that can be shut down much easier than Lurkers.

To me it looks like an anti mech type of unit for zvt i imagine itl be something like the archon for zerg where it can tank a lot at a medium cost

It's pretty clearly got mandibles, and its front legs are much larger. If it is backwards, it's going to look pretty stupid with such a large "head" and tiny legs supporting it.

To be fair, Dark Swarm played a huge part in the viability of the unit past the midgame.

Ya I think it probably will be a Roach equivalent of the Lurker from BW. I honestly see them bringing them back in some form. They been saying they want to and I honestly would like to see the Zergs get that option back again.

My browser only showed the left portion and I thought it was a muta at first. I vote upgraded baneling.

Hey I dont know if it's been discussed before but what if this unit can lay mines, which are stored in the abdomen? or maybe it drops something else, I don't know, creep? Plague? Just a wild guess. Or maybe it's a caster unit that can produce larvae, like a mobile hatchery that can burrow. I'm just too excited, can't wait to play HotS.

Looks like one of those guys from Starship Troopers, when they attack the planet, there's these huge bugs on the planet shooting up plasma balls.
|
its gonna burrow and shoot acid from the ground.
|
I swear Blizzard is intentionally releasing familiar looking units to mess with us. To me it looks like a roach type replacement that resembles a baneling.

A mine layer would kinda make borrowed banelings useless, also creap is easy to drup with overlords. A plague like broodwar type could be a good idea but the unit seem to big and clunky for it.
I think a form of borrowed lurker accid version seems a good guess.

Pretty sure someone linked a video of those earlier

On a different note, I'm more interested in what it does than what it looks like, call me crazy.
Oh, cmon, it'll definitely be armored, look at the size of the carapace on that thing.

It looks like a hydra with a combat shield. And a giant mutated claw. Going to have to go with Tank/melee unit on this one.

the hydralisk face is the most impressive pic imo.
might be some hydralisk roach fusion :D
