No Demuslim?

How many tournaments is he going to miss? I've been hearing the EG hype for a year now and he's shown up to basically none of the major tournaments whether due to his arm, travel problems or schedule clashes.

Apparently he wanted to go but he's getting a visa or something so he doesn't have his passport with him at the moment.

It's European Union so I would guess that he only needed an ID card. Or is it different for British people? Maybe they can go to other european countries but not actually come back to GB, I don't know the rules.

Or maybe he doesn't even have a valid ID card :p

We don't have ID cards here. They tried to bring them in as a mandatory thing a few years ago, but the new government scrapped them after massive public outcry.

Edit: even the ones that were issued have ceased to be valid from January 2011.

Oh ok that's why then

The UK is not part of Schengen, so you need a passport to get in/out of the UK.
It's funny how they are upset about ID cards when they probably have more public video camera coverage than the rest of the world

Thats not actualy true, while UK is not part of Schangen they have some sort of special relationship with Shangen meaning that You can enter UK with only your ID (inside Shangen your documents are not even checked most of the time. You can drive trough border without even noticing it. And while i am not UK citizen, i doubt they will make more problems for their citizens than they do did to me.

Unless of course UK changed some things pretty recently.

PS.Actualy it turns out, its easier for me to enter UK than for UK citizen to enter Sweden, at least on paper.
http://www.swedenabroad.com/Page____23300.aspx

Here is the list of Countries that people from need Visa to enter Sweden (nor Uk nor England is on the list so its not a visa problem it would seem)
http://www.sweden.gov.se/content/1/c6/13/59/55/96f47860.pdf

They always check your passport pretty carefully when you fly back in to the UK, and more closely since 9/11. I think you can use an ID card instead if your country has one (we don't). If he's sent his passport off (to sort out his USA visa, I assume) then he is stuck. It's a passport issue, as far as I can tell.

Stream will probably lag as usual anyway.

As usual? I know there were problems in Valencia...But as usual? I was attending both Stockholm and Summer but what ive heard the streams didnt lag.

All DH 2011 streams have lagged to the extent that it turned into a slideshow instead of a stream. I live in Sweden and I have a 100 mbit connection, so it's nothing wrong on my end. In DHS11 finals everyone watching the stream missed 70% of the first game because of terrible lag, even on 240p.

I've had 0 problems with dreamhack streams.. It's your computer/connection dude. 100/100 doesn't mean shit if you got crap wireless for example.

My router has 300 mbps WAN throughput and gigabit network speed, so no. It is not on my end. Period.

It is FACT! Are you kind of dumb? If i had not any problem from germany with a shitty 350kb connection then its your fault? :D

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Yes the stream may work for some, but not for everyone. When the stream reaches too many viewers the server gets overloaded, hence throttling bitrate to some viewers. And all of this is very much based on where you live and what ISP you have, because everyone will have different routes to the server. So no, I'm not kind of dumb, you are just clueless.

You know, you just described how it was indeed a problem on your end. =)

Not specificly your fault, but the problem being your ISP/routing, which is definitely your end and not DHs. DH cant do much else than sending out a boatload of data out on the internet, if you're unable to receive that data at a satisfactory speed, tough luck. What do you expect, a personal cable from DH home to you? =)

No, it means DH is not sending it out fast enough, and if they want happy viewers/customers, they need to fix that.

Justintv used to be super laggy for a lot of Europeans, are you saying we should blame Europe for that?

If some viewers don't have problems with stream -> DH is sending fast enough, good enough.
If most viewers don't have problems with stream, the 3rd party company actually doing the streaming is doing it good enough.
Unfortunately, for most people, the problems lie with their ISP's routing policies, how they connect to other networks/backbones. That's where the problem is, no matter if you got 1/1 or 1000/1000. Or it could be worse, it could be your home setup.

What most of you fail to realize is that outside of your own ISP's network you have no guarantees about speed. Your 100/100 can give 10mbps download speed without any problems simply because of how it's routed.
Or for a different example, say your ISP has 10000 customers with 100/100, what do you think happens when all of them want to download something from outside the ISP's network (assuming it's a nice ISP and their own infrastructure can actually support 10000 people pumping 100mbps in/out each). You do realize maths says the ISP needs 1tbps connection to the outside? That's around 1000000000000bps.

So before you yell at DH think about the fact that you don't even have 100/100 with the outside of your ISP and it can get a lot worse depending on what you're connecting to, what other networks you use to get there and all the QoS and routing policies.

If some people have a good stream then sorry, blame your ISP, call them, yell at them to work shit out with the other end of the stream (which most likely isn't DH and most likely isn't JTV either).

Speculation here, but seems common sense and that's how I'd do it:

DH------>DHISP------->(3rd party streaming server rented by streaming site that DH uses - not exclusively, some bandwidth/usage rights)------>(3rd party streaming cloud/black-box network)----->(3rd party streaming server chosen as the best option for you)----->YOURISP------>YOU

The actual streaming site is just a UI used on DH (streaming software like xsplit) and on YOU (browser player).

If problems would be on DH side - everyone gets crappy stream.
If problems are at 3rd party, everyone or some - depending on which server the player thinks is best and where in the chain the problems are - will have issues. Low chance, from what I heard the companies doing this are extremely good.
Most likely problems are between chosen server and you or, if too many are sent to one server, out bandwidth of that server so a semi localized problem.

So I can't blame DH for using an inferior partner? MLG never lags for me and they have even more concurrent viewers than DH and they are streaming from the US, I don't see your logic. The problem originates from DH selecting Twitch as their partner, hence it's their fault when it lags, no matter how much you try to blame my ISP (which is connected to TeliaSonera...)

Valencia was a slideshow for me, at best, this with a 100mbit cabled connection.
But I had no problems with DHS11, watching all five streams at the same time on a wireless connection.

Anyway, it's TwitchTVs fault.

There was some shit going on with TwitchTV that day, I don't remember what but it's was like a major server failure or something quite out of the ordinary that they couldn't fix immediately.

I really liked Day9 and Apollo casting together last time they did (possibly a dreamhack?) I hope they do it again.

I am so psyched for this! I am literally bouncing up and down in my chair! So stacked.
I thought Zenio was participating in this? But I don't see his name anywhere. Maybe I am just blind T_T. Anyway, go Team Liquid! And ThorZaIN too of course ^_^.
Edit: Its a pity TLo and HerO were put in the same pool. Team kill first -_-

I wonder is the 10k people at the LAN will cause problems for the players in form of lag. Even though the internet is good i wonder if it's good enough http://www.dreamhack.se/dhw11/2011/11/22/120-gigabit-at-dhw11/

Dreamhack casting pairs have been:
DH Winter 2010: dApollo & Day9
DH Stockholm Invitational: DemusliM & dApollo
DH Summer 2011: dApollo & Day9 (stream 1), Totalbiscuit (stream 2)
DH Valencia Invitational: dApollo & Totalbiscuit

dApollo is pretty much the "official DH caster" ;P

Wow that heartrate monitor is a nice touch. It's going to be really interesting to see if noobs have a signifficantly higher bpm than pros going into games on the main stage.

Also, I'm really glad to see so many north american players participating... that's so awesome guys.
