Thanks for voting everyone!
Before you decide, we have a change to announce. Unfortunately, we have just been informed that Socke and DongRaeGu will be unable to attend MLG Orlando. They have been replaced in the Pools by the next two most highly-seeded players, who are none other than LiquidHero and LiquidTyler. Great news for Team Liquid—and for Protoss fans.
I think I complained last MLG because they didn't display the results of the polls. I now feel obligated to thank MLG for incorporating this feature, so thank you!
(I could be remembering wrong, I don't remember :p)
Idra vs Haypro (all MLGs need to start with an Idra match) Ret vs HongUn (seems to be the best matched set of those three) Huk vs Tyler (Ex-Liquid vs Liquid!)
LiquidHero vs oGsMC RGNKiwikaki vs EGPuma EGHuk vs LiquidTyler

But then, who wouldn't want to see HERO v MC?!?!
On a side note, it appears I can vote more than once? After voting I loaded up the page again, and it appears I could. I haven't, believing in the fairness an integrity of it all etc, but shouldn't it be locked to ONE vote per IP?
Definitely want to see the PvP's of Huk, MC, Hero and Liquid Tyler. Want to see how the metagame has evolved since the patch and I think these four are the ones to look for if you want to see them.
so many PvP, now i will finally see some recent high level PvP...no 4gate means it should be far better than previous PvPs
also, they better give us HuK vs HerO or else and good to know tyler doesnt have to fight through the open bracket this time :D hoping tyler and incontrol prove their worth this mlg and get into pool play for providence, i think they would need top 12-16 or something like that to get into pool play for providence gogo hero, huk, tyler, kiwikaki, incontrol, boxer, sheth and ret!!!!!!
oh the irony in DRG getting code-s through MLG and then not coming to MLG because of code-s.
dunno..i guess i always thought the GSL exchange program was to give foreigners a shot but more importantly to give the koreans that deserve a code-s spot a BETTER shot at getting in.
anyway, i voted for hero vs mc, kiwi vs puma, and idra vs drewbie. looking forward to MLG! ^^

European representation at MLG is at an all-time low. Only TL players and one player living in the US anyway (DeMuslim).
MLG did a fantastic job getting high profile players from the strongest region to attend but quietly lost the second strongest region in the meantime.
...And White-Ra!
Also voted for two pvp. Mind boggling. The third set of options was a toss-up for me. All of the games could potentially be very entertaining. TLO vs anyone can turn out well. Idra/drewbie hell never know how that series will look from one week to another.
I really hope Idra/Drewbie wins. One of the most hilarious rivalries of all time. Starting off with that Kulas Ravine (beta?) game where Idra runs Ultras into chokes for 40 minutes and calls Drewbie the worst person he's ever played before finally winning with Brood Lords. And Drewbie has taken multiple tournament games/series off of him since then, with typical hilarious Idra reactions. It's great whenever the two meet (and especially when Drewbie manages to win).
Could've picked the first two with my eyes closed, and the last one was a no-brainer xD Sure Huk vs Tyler would be a nice Liquid vs ex-Liquid PvP, but I'd rather see ex-Korea vs recent-Korean, and aren't they some kind of rivals from way back anyway?
Mc vs Hero. Will the new candidate beat the old president? Or will MC be reelected? Ret vs Hongun Prime: Macro vs Micro, nuff said. huk vsTyler: Fromer teammates fighting for survival at this MLG. Although I am worried that Tyler being out of shape
People might like Tyler and Huk more, but Tyler's PvP is not going to be up to the level of Huk's for sure. I'd much rather see a TvZ between Idra and drewbie.
With so many P´s in his group and DRG gone, MC suddenly became a serious contender to win it. And if he does, he´ll face the winner of group A, which should be the weakest. If no crazy good person comes out of the Open Bracket (MKP), MC is favored to get at least Top-3. Which means, that the kratoss will be back in Code-S soon.
No Socke - so sad I'm still waiting to see him proving his true skill someday. But maybe Tyler is able to practice enough to show some good results and Heros playstyle is always entertaining.
Kiwikaki vs Puma is a can't miss. The series in Raleigh was really close and if Kiwikaki has a chanc to beat a guy like Puma it has to be on stage.
Hero vs MC is an easy pick too.
The 3rd pick I really don't care. Drewbie vs Idra always makes some good games and it'll be fun to see how Drew improved during his time in Korea and Huk vs Tyler is just pure awesomenes, two players I always want to do well in any event.

Gratz to tyler, show that you can make it back into the pools with consistent results. He had a couple quiet but solid MLGs the last couple.

Voted for Boxer vs Drewbie: I want to see how much Drewbie had improved in his short time in Korea and also he is up against the emperor.
Kiwikaki vs Puma: Kiwikaki with a mothership buff vs an amazing Terran player, how could i have said no to that (also hopefully some people might see the match and decide to donate to WCG Canada)
Huk vs Tyler: Time for tyler to show Huk who is boss (until Hero shows up)
Wow pool D is going to be silly... 4 Protoss in one pool (including HerO and Huk, my two favorites :-( )! I guess we'll get a good showcase of what PvP is after the changes in patch 1.4
Voted for: EGHuk v Liquid'HerO (should be a solid and entertaining PvP) Liquid'Ret v HongUn.Prime (Ret has been so good lately, should be an interesting match) EGHuk v Liquid'Tyler (Tyler may have something interesting prepared for PvP and who better to showcase it against than Huk?)
All the matches are so terribly lopsided I have no idea what series to vote for. Only series I expect to be close and interesting out of the ones listed is probably MC vs Hero
Choosing between Huk vs Tyler, Idra vs Drewbie and Haypro vs TLO. Would've been interesting during the beta, but now it's hard to get excited over any of them to be honest. Idra vs Drewbie it is I guess. Prefer a poor TvZ over a lopsided PvP.
Try to think about the matches, not the names. C'mon guys - who actually wants to watch 2 PvPs??? Choose one if you must (personally I went with MC v Hero) then choose another great match instead of the PvP (Idra v Drewbie should be awesome - Idra awesome, Drew practicing in Korea, all the BM that will go on)

I do. I've seen like 1 Korean PvP in the last 2 months.
WOW... P,P,P,P,Z.... the anti Code S... It's awesome Tyler and Hero got put into pool play though... I guess that's all of liquid in the pools right? Well, except Jinro. And there's at least one liquidian in each pool.. Let's go top 4 ! :p
After the good showings in open bracket, I think Tyler definitely deserves a slot in the pool play. He proved twice that he's a cut above the open bracket. Good luck to him!
My emotions are so turbulent right now. I can't decide if I'm happy, sad, confused, or just hungry (that's probably for a different reason). But jeez, group D has too much protoss now, I was looking forward to epic PvZ's. A good deal for July, at least.
LiquidHero vs oGsMC - Epic PvP, and no I don't care MC is in code B a win against him will mean a lot for Hero. LiquidRet vs HongUnPrime - Seeing Puma is fun but seeing a game that can become a close 2-1 either way is better (and ofc it will be better if ret win ) EGIdra vs coLDrewbie - I can see so many golden Idra moments come out of this that I just have to see it live.
I think the upside of this is that these players are really going to be able to focus on developing the new patch PvP styles, so we all should see some interesting stuff at Orlando. The same can be said of July's ZvP, although July plays so weird that nobody can really copy him anyway. He's entertaining nonetheless :D
I agree that HerO vs HuK should be a stage match. Should be a sick PvP + the team angle.
Almost all of these matches are pretty weak honestly. The ones that have strong players are unfortunately, mirror matches.
Although Kiwi vs Puma and Ret vs Hongun are both going to be very good, but unfortunately you can only pick one. I'd gladly have both of those replacing one of the other matches.
Is there any way this can be done on the spot the day of the tournament with live polls?
Reason being is that if one player I like is doing really well and brought nice builds to the tournament I will vote for them while if another player is slumping I might not want to watch them anymore.
44.4 percent vs 44.01 percent on the huk tyler or idra drewbie match. i'm pretty sure everyone is hoping drewbie got really good and makes idra rage like no other
I don't understand why people would want to watch Tyler vs Huk. Tyler will be 10-0ed in his pool. The recent NASL results should provide enough of a hint as to his current shape and mindset...

Huk isn't in his best form either so that may prove to be an interesting match.
It's not that I don't want to see MC vs Hero...actually scratch that I do want to see MC vs Hero, but I'm fairly certain that those two will play each other in the future, either another MLG or eventually in the GSL. And honestly I don't want to watch 4 hours of PvP. Anyways I love watching boxer play. And while I think we already know the outcome of the match-up, Drewbie's no pushover and should put up an entertaining series against Boxer.
RGNKiwikaki vs EGPuma
Slush vs Machine was my second choice for this group. Mainly because they're both fairly underrated players who you don't get to see a lot of. But lets be honest here. It's Puma and Kiwikaki we're talking about here. Who isn't going to vote for that?
EGIdra vs coLDrewbie
This match I want to see badly. These two have a history and a good one at that (and by good I mean bad). It's not that I don't want to see HuK vs Tyler, it's just...I mean...after Hero vs MC do you really want to watch another PvP?

There's still a giant difference between those two.
I just hope that we get at least 2 games in the Huk v Tyler series, but I would like to see what the commentators would say to a WO in Pool Play at MLG.
Side note: Why hasn't Tyler or TL Mgmt made a statement about the NASL BS that went down?

Huk can still beat NaDa on a layover from europe to NA, even when hes not at his best hes still pretty damn good. I don't see Tyler making anything happen there.
Idra v. Drewbie on the other hand has the possibility for some serious EPORTS DRAMA, and who doesn't love ESPORTS DRAMA.
TLDR vote idra/drewbie, its like 45%:45%, every vote counts.
it's sad that both players are unable to attend the event, but I'm so glad for Hero and Tyler on the other side.. i love both players and i'm especially happy that tyler is back in pool play!!
On September 28 2011 04:47 Saishuuheiki wrote: I can't wait for SoTG to hear whether Tyler thinks he'd have been better off in the open bracket than in group D
If you mean he may be better off warming up in the open bracket and possibly landing in an easier pool, then you've made the mistake of assuming he's a normal man. He's going to stare straight into the death void that is group d and laugh joyfully at the opportunity to face powerful opponents from the very start.
On September 28 2011 04:47 Saishuuheiki wrote: I can't wait for SoTG to hear whether Tyler thinks he'd have been better off in the open bracket than in group D
Well im pretty sure he'd say he rather be in Pool Play,
Open Bracket: He has to win tons of games in a row (or win all from losers bracket) just to get to the 1st round of the Championship Bracket.
Pool Play: Guaranteed a spot in Championship Bracket (even if he goes 0-5).
I'd take pool play lol
EDIT:
On September 28 2011 04:53 KroMTroN wrote: Why are so many people voting for PvPs?
I can't speak for others, but the lack of Protoss in GSL makes me sad and i havent watched a quality PvP in some time, so i never thought id say this, but i miss PvP :S lolll
I can't believe I voted against the Emperor, but Hero vs MC. The new face of protoss against the old protoss king attempting to regain his kingdom, just too good to pass up... and KiwiKaki is a really sneakily good player. Would love to see him against Puma (and take him down despite my Terran allegiances)...and Idra vs Drewbie, isn't Drewbie in Korea? and Idra has said in the past Drewbie is trash should be awesome too watch

Huk is the only Protoss to have maintained a spot in the current GSL (he can still be joined by Killer, who will have a patch advantage). Maybe he's not at his best, but there is simply no way you can compare that with Tyler forfeiting to TT1 after losing the first game...
July is probably the favorite to take his group. He's a consistent Code S player and ZvP still slightly favors Zerg, plus he only has to practice ZvP.
If he takes the group, that guarantees him a top 6 placement I believe? It would be great to see July win this MLG. There hasn't been a Zerg champion this year IIRC.

There is a build that's been developed since then. It kinda has 3 1's in it. Puma DEMOLISHED MC with it, who's still miles above Kiwi. Puma still won that set anyway, and the only other time he's lost a series to P as far as I can remember is against Mana at IEM where he was sick and underestimated him. Puma rarely ever loses TvP, even when forced into macro games, and in TLPD both korean and international has a 70+ % win rate in the MU

Additionally, the build was new, and presumably caught MVP off guard, who knows if a response will be developed in the next two weeks? Not to say that it has been, but you can't say that a new build that did well against ONE 111 is a surefire counter. Puma is above kiwi in skill level most likely anyway, making the point moot.
As for the patch, it delayed the build by about 10 seconds and gave us one more range on Immortal, which hasn't been proven by anyone yet to make a huge impact on holding the push.

I'm sorry, I guess I was misinformed... That probably makes this match much closer than I originally believed then. I wish both players luck! (I still think Hongun Ret would be a much more interesting MU, but w.e XD)
I feel like pool D is going to be really weird, as MC, Huk and Hero have all lived together, and Huk, Hero and Tyler have all been on team liquid (though I think Hero and Huk have not been on team liquid at the same time). I feel like they probably know each other really well, and it's PvP, so... some strange stuff is going to happen, I think.
This guy summed up on how I feel about the whole thing :
James Berthoty · Florida State University This is terrible, I blindly voted Huk vs. Tyler because of the epicness, but then saw that the next match was the rivalry that is Idra vs. Drewbie. Stream both of them split screen. Stream inside a stream etc. etc. Reply · 1 · · 2 hours ago

People are blind-voting for Huk vs Tyler. Tyler's gonna get man-handled so brutally it wont even be funny to watch.
IdrA vs Drewbie on the other hand is an extremely interesting match in my opinion. Drewbie's been in Korea and probl improved a shit-ton whereas IdrA has been slumping in tournaments recently.

Who gives a shit about that? We watch the better players in this game. Not the other games. You're watching, not listening or reading about his accomplishments right?
I'm surprised DRG didn't wait until his Code S matches today to decide. If he gets 3rd then he is just done until next code S season and should go ahead and go to MLG. Plane tickets I guess? Oh well, should be a great tournament either way.

IdrA vs Drewbie on the other hand is an extremely interesting match in my opinion. Drewbie's been in Korea and probl improved a shit-ton whereas IdrA has been slumping in tournaments recently.
Could be close
but Drewbie is Drewbie... so it won't be close... but Drewbie is terran... so it might be close also IdrA doesn't like Drewbie... can't wait <3
$10 bucks says drewbie will 2-0 Idra, both matches will be done within 15-20 minutes and then all of us Idra fans will be left dissapointed,...... again
For that too happen he'll have had to improve tremendously... Drewbie has always been the easiest win for me out of all the top people I've faced on ladder before...
Tyler's gotta be happy about this. Still a difficult position, but being in pool play is by default better then starting in the Open Bracket. More time to Chill.

I'm surprised people are voting for the HuK vs Tyler PvP that will be probably be a heavily one sided match. Are people so fed up of watching Terrans then?
Where are the pools on the website? That thing is such a mess... Why not just LINK them in the article... Even if you click on "MLG Orlando Full-Info" there is nothing leading to the pools or brackets. Somebody help me please and MLG please work on your website. Put huge buttons linking to important information (schedules, BRACKETS!) everywhere. Thanks.

LiquidRet vs HongUnPrime needs moar votes. Not sure why people don't hype it - possibly either thinking that Hongun is bad, or Ret is bad (??), but the truth is that it's going to be a great clash, and Ret has a good chance to win it.
I'm really interested to see what MC does this MLG since it's his best shot at getting back into Code S.
PvP should also be very interesting as the 4 gate on any map other than tal'darim is a seriously bad idea. I have a feeling the new PvP metagame will be created in Group D. If I was a betting man my money would be on HuK. Blink stalkers is also gimped pretty hard due to the immortal range increase, so honestly I'm expecting the return of the colossus death ball or immortal + VR. With immortals being so strong vs stalkers and protoss poor anti-air options that could be seriously viable.

Why would anyone vote for this after watching code S day 3 where hongun's PvZ was so terrible to watch?

because there is no better alternative for that vote spot imo.
I'm surprised people took [EGHuk vs LiquidTyler] over [EGIdra vs coLDrewbie] Huk will stomp Tyler in a PvP, but IdrA is entertaining to watch because you never know how the game will end.

Using the same (quite flawed) logic, Kiwikaki is 0-5 PvT in his last 5 official games, including 2 losses to Puma, so what's the point to vote for him vs Puma?

HAHA yeah! I was wondering how the PvP is going to play out after the patch, no more wondering, this will probably be a master class in pvp. The luckiest guy in that group is going to be july, he effectively has to practice one matchup a lot to get out of pool play.
I really hope we'll get replays from this mlg.....maybe even the old style with the reps being uploaded as soon as the matches get over..but thats hoping for too much
Edit: voted: Huk vs Tyler Kiwi and puma Hero vs mc!
Looking awesome guys! I hope the new PvP doesnt just descend into plain colossus wars.
Happy to see Tyler and Hero in pools, but sad that DRG won't make it I'm such a bubbly fangirl after watching him on TL Attack.
Will MLG determine all of its broadcast games by voting? I'd enjoy seeing "unpopular" players every once in a while. Edit: obvious from the voting page that only three games are by popular demand. Very cool idea. MLG is doing so many things right.
Man there is a lot of PvP hate, and a lot of asking why people would rather watch Tyler v HuK instead of Idra vs Drewbie. So, let me answer them all at once. Some people are fans of HuK, hence chose HuK vs Tyler, some people are fans of Tyler, hence Tyler vs HuK, some just want to watch an after patch PvP, and believe it or not, some people just don't care about whatever bad mannered thing Idra is going to be doing.

I guess that depends on how much you consider MC a liquidian with the oGs-TL tag. If you consider it still part of the family the yes hero, MC, and Tyler, plus EG.HuK is a former liquidian... so pretty liquid heavy group to be sure.

Thanks man. I wouldnt have reacted that way if it wasnt a known problem with the MLG website. That whole thing is kind of a mess.
Official cronation of the new Protoss-gosu of the world - I really considder HerO to be the best toss in the world right now, that guy is friggin sick man
I voted Hero vs MC, because both are top notch Koreans, Hero representing the new, and MC representing the old, and I want to see how it goes down.
After that I picked LiquidRet vs HongUnPrime because I believe Ret doesn't get to see the spotlight as often as he deserves, he is a very good player with tons more potential and we need to see more of him.
Lastly I voted for HuK vs Tyler, mostly because of the EG- Liquid rivalry, and also because I'm now a big Tyler fan.
ughh i wish they would have shuffled pools just to prevent oversaturation of any 1 race in a pool. PvP is Awesome 10% of the time and 4gate or colossus wars the rest. at least its not TvTs. (curious how 1.4 effects PvP though)
Being a toss and a huk/hero fan kinda sucks right now.
I was getting ready to complain about people voting for certain matches and such, but the I was like "wait a minute, I don't care which matches are streamed, because I'm gonna fucking be there to watch it live."
voted hero/iron, ret/hongun, idra/drewbie. pity that drg can't come, even more of a pity that socke can't, oh well, at least that means liquid's brotosses can skip straight to the pool

We would NEVER seed pools by Race. Tournament results always blindly seed the pools.
It sometimes makes for some race heavy pools, but that is the result of blind objectivity.

How? The ONLY matchup you could even argue him for being the best in is PvZ, but even then the only good zerg he has beaten is Dongraegu, and that was month's ago. He just lost in Code A to a fairly mediocre zerg. Unquestionably there are better PvTers, he just got 2-0ed by a foreign terran. And for PvP, MC is still king on account of him having a losing record vs ONLY 1 protoss, Alicia.
How much you wanna bet if Hero didn't join Liquid you wouldn't be saying that? .
Remember that IPL is next week, and with the 100k prize pool, there might be a lesser showing from some people overseas, just because they would rather wait a week and play in a 100k tournament, instead of dealing with travel twice in one week --- unless they decide to stay in the US for an additional week.

i'd have thought that the ipl being when it is would increase foreigner showing if anything, no need to shell out on flights twice

It probably depends on flight costs vs living (and intra-us travel) costs -- car rental isnt necessarily cheap either (at least when I was in Europe it sure wasn't. No idea about US costs). Europe does have a nice currency advantage though, so everything here is cheap for them.
My parents were able to do a round trip from the US (denver) to england (london heathrow) for 700-900 (united airlines, economy fare) just a couple weeks ago.
You weigh cost to fly in before MLG, stay for about 1 additonal week in the US on top of tournament stays, intra-country travel (rental cars, one-way plane tickets, buses, etc), then fly out from whatever airport sends you back (either back in orlando, or in neighboring airports near AC).
If anything, it might even balance out. Multi-city arrangements tend to be more expensive, gateways out of the US are finite in number, and vary with carriers. Hotels can be expensive, and they can be super cheap too.
It's probably hard to say, as it would vary from person to person.
Why can't MLG put up some extra streams for everything we miss? I mean they don't even have to be cast or anything, I would just like to see some of the less popular/korean players and some of the open bracket. Since anyone can get a stream on justin.tv/ustream/whatever these days, it really doesn't make sense to me that we don't have that option. I guess yeah, you'd have to have an observer working those games but that shouldn't be that hard to get right?
Even though I play Protoss and don't mind PvP, I honestly don't think Huk vs Tyler is going to show us much. I love Tyler, but Huk is on another level.
Drewbie vs IdrA would have been (and will be) so much mre exciting, with IdrA the clear favorite, but Drewbie has a chance to upset him. And it isn't PvP.

I dunno, I think Drewbie/Idra would be as big a blowout as i think HuK/Tyler could be.
But with PvP chanign so much this patch don't count tyler out, he could catch these players off guard with something different.
