You become a pro when you make money.

You become a pro when you make money. While that was not my point, you become a pro when you are paid for doing what you are doing. Winning tournament price money does not make you a pro. My point was that for many pros out there, it isnt about making money, its about improving and becoming the best at the sport. Hopefully they can make money along the way.

You become a pro when you make money. I'd say you are a professional when you make so much money that you can live off it. @ the korea issue: I can understand that young players are money-focused and stephano wants to win EU/NA tournaments easily to earn some money. But in the mindset of a sportsman there should be more than this, especially when you are that exceptionally talented like stephano. Not going to korea would be a waste of talent and a missed opportunity for gaining so many experiences that cannot be paid for.

I really doubt that all the former bw / war3 pros or even amateurs would have switched without the $$$ and the easier competition. Maybe they would have tried the game for fun but when you start to practice 8-10 hours/day you need to earn money. I think MVP said something about that in an interview. Now obviously if you want to make money you have to be the one of the best but the first motivation for those guys is money.

IIRC MVP said in an interview that his family is poor, and he saw a better opportunity to make money in SC2 than in Broodwar. So he switched that he could support his family. And i think it was a wise choice, considering he was a B-Teamer in Broodwar.

Teams and sponsors are not a prerequisite, they will eventually come to you if you get results anyway. I know that it isn't the "official" definition but it makes much more sense, especially with all the events. Definitly different of bw where there are only two large tournaments and players need a team salary.

He's put so much pressure on himself, and all he gets is a pat on the back instead of friendly competition and guidance. Essentially, there are two language barriers to pick from: One is the SC2 language which Millennium barely understands, and one is the English/French language which Korea barely understands.

But the kid is good let's see if he can keep it in a LAN tourney against KR Terran. err... I'd say he'd have some small chance to take a game off if he matches up against the average ones like rain or boxer.. there is no way in hell he'd take a game off the top terrans. didnt he smash MMA? i'd consider him as one of the top terrans. I thought we were talking about LAN here though.. w/e you'd say korean lag is real.

This guy is totally on another level right now, also, it was incredible how he was totally messing up in ladder games like making just spine crawlers and get broodlords at 12 minutes, or playing using bane drops/mines vs protoss...He was totally fooling around with the best players out there in EU and yet he did not drop a single game for the entire time...Impressive!

I really think we haven't had that for a very long period of time. Zers dominating atm. no more 7 out of 10 terrans in sight anywhere. interesting.
