On the 17th of September DreamHack once again stands as host for a StarCraft II Invitational. This time in the beautiful Veles e Vents building located in the Valencia Street Formula1 Circuit and the 33rd America’s Cup harbour. Two more players can today be presented and also the two casters of the event that will guide us through the epic battles we have ahead.
DreamHack Valencia Invitational is less than three weeks away and four of the eight superstars have already been announced and it's time for two more players. As the 5th invited player DreamHack is proud to present the dreaded Korean Zerg Player DongRaeGu from compLexity.MVP who is the champion of LG Cinema 3D Special League and has had a very strong showing in GSTL and at MLGs. Our second Terran player for the tournament is no other than the TSL 3 Champion from Sweden, ThorZaIN. The Mousesport player is currently living in Korea to practice against the best and will most likely be lethal at Valencia Invitational.
The british duo of Apollo and TotalBiscuit to cast the games Shaun "Apollo" Clark has been with DreamHack StarCraft II since the start and is back yet with another caster who is no other than the very popular man in the hat John "TotalBiscuit" Bain. They were both casting DreamHack Summer 2011 but on different streams and we have seen over several tournaments that the combination is fantastic. DreamHack is proud to have Apollo and TotalBiscuit as commentators for DreamHack Valencia Invitational. The hosts for the show will be announced very soon, stay tuned..
On the 6th of September the two brothers LucifroN and Vortix will face off to compete for the spanish slot of the Tournament. They are both qualified for the DreamHack South Europe Regionals which is taking place during the same weekend 16-17 of September.
Buy Tickets Now! Hundreds of European and Spanish eSports fans will have the possibility to attend the show live on-site. The tickets are available now! With the ticket you have access to event from from 14.00 to 23.00, meet your idols in fan meetings and attend the after-party. Tickets will be sold for 140 SEK, or €15, and available at bokning.dreamhack.se. Secure your ticket today, more players and information about the event will be released to you shortly.
DRG... damnit. Why won't you give the foreigners a chance DH TT;;
jk's, but yeah DRG is likely to take the tournament although it depends on who's the last two invites. If it's MVP or Nestea, maybe HerO theres a chance, although HuK and NaNiWa can also take games off him.
Come to think of it, MC's the defending champion kind of sort of technically right? So he defo should be invited. And besides, he's known for going to foreigner events.
again no dimaga eh ;( after his great play in korea no invite for Stochholm, now after winning assembly no invite, well 2 slots remain but its unlikely
On September 02 2011 01:35 xMalicious wrote: Amazing playerss, but i would have preffered a better caster than TotalBiscuit. Definitely pumped for this event though!
Completely agree. TotalBiscuit himself calls him a "gateway" caster who leads new players into the higher tiers with excitement, still he gets to cast so many top tier tournaments. Oh well, could be worse.
one of the unknown players will be spanish: LUCIFRON(t) or his brother VORTIX(z). lucifron is simply amazing and vortix has been on battle net once as the best zerg of Europe
So looking forward to this, i freaking love Dreamhack. Production Value, Stream Quality, Players, Casters, just everything always runs so smooth and is top notch.
Nice invites so far and really happy about tb and apollo casting. I just hope Khaldor will be casting in german too, with different games for different caster teams. In think assembly did that and it was really fun to watch and to switch.
Does any of you know if, since they'll be doing this in Valencia, there'll be any websites or Streams transmitting or translating this into Spanish? I'd like to watch this in a big ass TV with local friends and spanish casting would fare better than english. Teamliquid is the only SC2 resource that I know that does this sort of thing, but surely Spain must have a few fans or websites doing it in their language?
this is gonna be awesome, cant help to think they made a mistake with choosing Totalbiscuit as caster though, I mean sure alot of people like him but I think the same amount of people really dont like him.. someone more neutral might be prefered, but hey I guess they did their best.
Why does everyone whine about TB casting, Day9/Husky/Tastosis can't cast every tournament you know. I agree that he's not the best caster but far from the worst.
Oh and this event is gonna be so awsome I can't wait!!!!
pretty excited to see DRG destroying there, but i can agree too much with the caster choice, was always nice to have day9 there.. im gonna watch it anyways ^^

You stole the words out of my mouth.
Except I would maybe even say TB is excellent in certain cases, not just decent.

There will be spanish streams in the dreamhack page. You can check the casters live in this moment.
Stephano should be there. Stephano just might be the best foreigner their is atm. He plays like a beast, just recently 3-0 Startale Virus for instance.
Just that no freaking tournaments invite him/millenium cant afford to send him (?)
On September 02 2011 03:21 cscarfo1 wrote: Why are TB and Apollo casting? They aren't the best, and DreamHack Deserves the best
Apollo has been casting Dreamhack for a long time, and is a great commentator with a pretty high level of insight(mid-high masters EU random).
TB has one of the best play-by-play in the business, and very few casters can match the level of hype he generates on a live setting with a crowd. Compare MLG Raleigh's ho-hum player intros with TB's intros from Assembly.
And as stated before, TB and Apollo have a lot of experience casting together both online and offline, so they have great chemistry.
Excited about the players, not so much about the casters. I love total biscuit and everything but he couldn't really analyze a high-level game if his life depended on it and that's not his fault. Same with Apollo. They need at least 1 person who could analyze the game from a progamer perspective to give a different color to the cast.
Otherwise they will just say dumb, useless shit like "look there he goes making that blue flame upgrade, do you think he will use hellions apollo?" "Yeah I think so TB, he'll probably go into a transition to marine-tank after some harass too"
Huk with the TL shirt and TB with a top hat, classic. I for one enjoy the combo of TB-Apollo and seeing too much of any caster of caster duo gets old for me, when MLG was on Tastosis was getting kinda self repeating for me.
I enjoy the Apollo/Totalbiscuit duo, not as much as Tastosis, but more than Day9 and Husky at MLG Raligh so I am really going to go have fun with this tournament. It's going to be a blast.
On September 02 2011 04:02 Destro wrote: people keep taking total biscuit seriously
Looks like im muting the stream the entire time. shame too because i like apollo
I like his commentary believe it or not.
Plus he often teams up with Apollo for quite a few events, for instance the Insomnia LAN events in Britain, the SHOUTCraft Invitationals, even once during a Dreamhack event I think, plus during the IPL2.
On September 02 2011 03:10 ELA wrote: Will be very disappointed if there will be no Liquid players in this lineup

let's go drg.
I feel doubtful. As much as I like TeamLiquid's Swedish Terran superstar, he's been on a gigantic slump since dropping out of Code S, and hasn't got any decent let alone mediocre results since then.
And that's even with almost a year of practice in the oGs-TL house and on the Korean ladder.
Look at MLG Raleigh, he was the only competing Liquid member to not make it into the Championship Bracket and to get knocked out of the Losers Bracket (in Round 8 I believe.) While he made an okay stint, it was tiny compared to the likes of other pros like DeMusliM, Painuser, Drewbie, CoCa, Trimaster etc.
In fact, he didn't even make the top 32 either, whereas others who did were:
HerO #6
Sheth #19
HayprO #21
Ret #23
TLO #25
Tyler #28
I'm not bashing him and I know he is skilled and considered a hero to the international scene seeing as he almost won a GSL on 2 different occasions, but I'd be surprised if he gets the 7th or 8th invite. His results have been very lackluster for the last 8 or so months.
In fact, I think the only events where he made it past the first round were HSC3 and the StarsWar Killer 6.

Would be really fitting for a Valencia Invitational.
Welp great lineup, terrible choice of TB, so sick of having to watch events with sick players muted because such a buffoon is so popular amongst the plebians, it's a shame.

You're not alone. I actually really like TB and dApollo as well and i think that they have a pretty good chemistry as a caster-duo.
Awesome line up so far, would LOVE to see dimaga as one of the remaining two slots though! or White-ra ^^.. cant resist saying i will have to endure TB's "casting" though.. :S
COME ON LucifroN! It has been A WHILE since we got to see him at a LAN event so it would be nice to see him. I hope he makes it through the IEM qualifier to.

surprised Lucifron would have to win a play in game to compete in an in-country tournament, especially since he doesn't seem to travel to other lan tournaments much.

yeah, just saw his game against MaNa, and he seems ready for Valencia!

TBH I felt the same way about Husky, but I gave him a chance recently (MLG) and he impressed the hell out of me. I still think his voice is ridiculously annoying, but I can watch his casts now.

I feel like Apollo would do well not to allow himself to be attached to Total Biscuit as a casting team. Apollo is so much better with day9, TB drags him down.
I think i remember hearing that infi plays terran, which means atm theres 2 T, 2 Z, 2 P Hopefully a sick terran (MMA/MVP) and a sick zerg (Nestea/July) will complete the lineup. Praying they saved the best reveals till last :D Also 2gd to host again please!
I don't know which user had taken my picture from (I only posted it in Facepunch and Gametrailers), but if you're going to take another one of my pictures next time, at least give the contestant some flaming eyes and an explosion in the background.
Thanks.
ps. not important, but I asked DRG to put up that peace sign, though in American culture, it should have been facing the other way.
There are several players I'd like to see in the last two spots:
P: Kiwikaki, MC, WhiteRa T: MMA, MarineKing, Beastyqt (I may be biased but he is #1 EU GM atm and did ok at IEM Cologne) Z: Sen, Dimaga, July
Most of all I'd like to see Dimaga preform on the biggest stage, because he won Assembly summer, wins in weekly tournaments all the time and most recently won the Gigabyte monthly finals. Also I don't understand why he wasn't at EU Bnet invitational.

We can guarantee Stephano isn't an invite since he is one of the few progamers with super easy to tell hair outlines
Ya I actually thought about that since the outlines all look different, but I wasn't sure if those were their actual outlines. Could be WhiteRa or Mana though! :D Can't be both though since they are both Protoss.
Awesome, this tournament is looking to be an exciting one. I really want to see how Infi does, I haven't seen much about the Chinese SC2 scene since Loner kinda fell off the radar.
Awesooome! :D I love how HuK and Naniwa are playing at like every tournament they enter. Regardless of the state of protoss, they're always up against eachother, and end up approximately around the same place. DH FIGHTING!
Yeahhh! Totalbiscuit and his sexy deep voice! Thorzain is Terranitup in the GSTL, hopefully he does the same here! DRG looks pretty fearsome though, great ZvT definitely one of best inw orld.
i reckon appollo will hate casting with totalbiscuit, totalbiscuit has a overpowering voice and loves to call play by play and appolo is more strategy wise. anyway good combo i hope appolo keeps his cool!
I might have totally missed something but after typing 'infi liquipedia" on google and finding nothing, I think I'm not the only one in my situation : who the fuck is Infi ???
EDIT : my bad, I found him on liquipedia eventually. So a chinese player, hmm interesting let's see what he can do amongst the best !

I know right, it's like some sort of cosmic balancing act where they need to one up each other tournament after tournament as motivation or something. MC fits in there somewhere as boss-toss smacking them down when either gets too big for their britches. I was so broken when Huk failed to qualify for Blizzcon, what will Naniwa do without him !?
My theoretical money is on DRG or one of the Terrans taking it. Thorzain, the spoon killer, has a good shot at winning this I think;he seems to have blossomed a lot from his short time in Korea.

Ah, I guess you've missed out on a lot of their more recent projects then. Apollo and TB know each other quite well and have co-casted a ton of events, and imoho their synergy is pretty damn awesome. TB knows when to let Apollo in and their banter is hilarious.
Afaik Apollo stays at TB's studio when they're casting online, just to make it as authentic as possible.

Good thing that isn't his job then. By all accounts, he's a play-by-play caster.
Some guy from Millenium team interviewed Stephano few weeks ago and mentioned that the French zerg genius is to compete in a tournament in Valencia in the near future... Let's see, but he must be one of the last two invites.

his full name sounds like hes originally from tunisia."Satouri"
I don't mind TB, he has a different approach to the regular MLG casters and doesn't have a high level of analysis, but at least he doesn't pretend to. (Apollo on the other hand...)
Well you didn't exactly set a good example, seeing as you have your hand the same way his is.
I told him to put a peace sign and I showed him an example where I faced it the correct direction, but he put it up facing the wrong way. Due to consistency, I faced my peace sign the same way he did.
If I don't do it, then the difference between two players' peace signs will be fairly interesting enough for Reddit to get their prying hands on and then they will use my photo in crazy photoshop memes and make a profit on t-shirt and mug sales for those who are silly enough to wear a meme in public.

Well most likely they are only going to play 1 match at a time, since their is only 8 players as far as I understand. So I think u will see that 1 stream is more then enough.
Another interesting note, Sweden largest newspapper, Aftonbladet, will live stream the entire tournament just as they did on Stockholm Dreamhack. That time they had over 300000 viewers on their stream. Show you the power when public media goes in an support e-sport, all of a sudden e-sport reaches people that actually dont hang around on this forum
Anyway, so we can probably aspect a really high viewer count on this tournament as well.

His parents and family are indeed from Tunisia, where he spent his vacations and from where he played the 2011 MSI Millenium Pro Cup (I was watching the stream of this tournament and he had a lot of spikes and lags...). But he is actually as French as any Frenchman can be
(By the way there's a full page about Stephano on Millenium's website for those who want to know more about him ; it's in French though...)

Oh well, plenty of other SC2 to watch if there's only one stream.

I'd be able to watch him if he spoke normally, unfortunately he doesn't, he puts on a weird accent that's (imo) painful to listen to.
Edit: I believe he's actually a Geordie (someone from around Newcastle) too? Which is one of the most liked accents in England anyways.
I don't get the caster hate, you can't just fly in tastosis to every event in the world. TB is good at what he does and he never claimed to be an expert analyst. Apollo does a great job with his insight. Last DH he even had a notebook with facts of how players played in their previous games etc (lots of dedication!). The games should be good enough to make up for any horrendous experiences you might have while listening to the stream.
To be honest, I don't really think people should whine about TB. Sure he's no Day9 but he's funny and good at making dull stuff (old tvt tank vikings game for example) seem exciting and knife-edge. Not to mention that him and Apollo have a lot of experience casting together so they're just generally a good team (and of course Apollo is just great). Overall though, I don't think people can try and demand TB be ousted from DH (despite doing a great job in schweden) given how much he's done for SC2- showing it on his channel brought a lot of people into the fold, myself included and he's run 2 (3 this saturday) big prizepool tournaments with huge names. Doesn't get much better than that tbh. His dedication is obvious, he's just not had the big BW experience that a lot of current casters have. Give him time and I'm sure you'll grow to like him. Plus, dat top-hat.

You do have a unique style and voice, so you're bound to have a few haters but then again you have thousands of people who appreciate and love your casting. Can't satisfy them all. I don't think you're the best caster but you're definatly good enough to cast big tournaments like this and I'm looking forward to it.
