I don't think this is so surprising, Germany is a large country. It's a little more striking that less-populated countries like Sweden and Canada have produced so many good players, and some other countries don't seem to do that well.

I mean, I can't name a UK player besides DeMuslim, or Russians besides Kas and BratOk. (Or any Chinese players besides Loner, but I feel like that's just because they have a separate community).

Kas is not from Russia He is from Ukraine. In Russia there is (T)Happy as well

In China there are some very good players. (P)Jim, LoveCD, (T)Loner, ... (all the warcraft 3 pros as well)

Ukraine, Sweden and Germany have been the traditional European powerhouses, so he's right there.

France and Poland have started to look like they could join that top tier, but these countries are the strongest in Europe, imo.

Germany has a very solid line-up, no doubt about it.

The only thing they lack is a "superstar" level of player, someone like Idra, Thorzain or Nerchio. A player everyone is afraid of going up against.

well this is crazy what you say

Sure Nerchio is good but closed on results he isnt as good as Socke so i would always say Socke is the way better gamer then Nerchio.

Also germany have TLO if he isnt a superstar (who cares his results) who then ? no one! have mor watcher on his stream then TLO

Hasuobs and Socke by far the best german players, darkforce plays so much and after seeing him in NASL destroy alive i think we can expect alot of him (wcg germany place 1 by two times 3-2 3-2 socke in the finals where he had to win 2 bo3 says everything)

and goody well goody man !

but in case of superstar jaeh there is no one cause goody hasu socke darkforce tlo are just on the same fuckn level and in other countrys everone of them would be "the" star.

same in poland with tarson moon nerchio etc

@figq: uk ? australia ? rly ?

ps: i love how americans, to be able to compare with poland ukraine germany sweden and co declear themselves als NORTH AMERICA and took the canadians for themself too xDD

He meant superstar calibre in terms of skill, and I agree with him there.

Yeah, you're right, and I think noone said Germany was stronger than Sweden. The Swedes have always been the gods of e sports (in Europe, at least): Go Heaton, Potti and Fisker!

I wonder where the French Canadians are in WoL? They were the best foreigners in BW IMHO. Maybe they're in secret training camp somewhere in the Quebec area soon to spring forth.

The legendary Testie, Grrr, Elky to name a few.

Testie got caught up in HoN, Elky dabbles in SC2 but makes far more money in poker and Grrrr tried out for the first GSL but I have no idea what happened to him after that...

Earlier this year Teste wanted to become a SC2 pro (dunno if he still wants to), but he started streaming HoN all the time and just playing like 5 games of sc2 every day. After some weeks he managed to get about 1500 viewers consistently, which means a pretty big ad revenue. From what I got out of his words, he'd rather play HoN with alot of supporting viewers than being 'decent but not good' at Sc2 for some months, which would mean no viewers and no ad revenue. I mean, he is still top masters level easily.

If I recall correctly Elky's made more than about $10.000.000 in poker tournaments, let alone all the bucks he gets from just playing poker online. He would never go back to starcraft with a salary of what? 100k a year, let it be 200k? Thats what he makes in a month, I'd guess.

And I found some articles on Grrr... joining oGs team house, but nothing more about his way after failing out of GSL 1.

ElkY has enough money. He really enjoys the lifestyle. Not only that, but you want to keep your sponsors happy hence he will continue to do so.

Grrrr... is continuing to play poker.

Testie will eventually make the switch. It's just a matter of time. Nick is a lot like Mondi. He's a natural talent when it comes to RTS games. Once he dives in he will make a splash.

But even you see Testie having a big talent is he playing anything anymore? Did not here something of him in the last months...

Sure German players are good, but we're getting to that phase, where even despite SC2 being far simpler and easier to play than SC1, the Korean players are getting to get better and better and widening the gap.

Let's not forget also that the talented Korean SC players are far more likely to go to BW (which if you forget, is pretty much a national sport in South Korea) than to SC2. The significance of that is the "cream of the crop" in Korea typically play BW, not SC2. As if Flash doesn't make it seem easy enough playing against other Koreans, imagine an SC2 version of Flash who is highly involved in non-Korean tournaments. The carnage would be insane. I can't see such a player being knocked out of a tournament largely comprising foreigners unless he was having the worst of luck.

If you mean the Canadian one, he's playing HoN.

yup, goody is a great guy and hes shown hes capable of taking some games vs tough opponents
wouldn't bet on him in bo7's against top notch players though

but regarding the inofficial ranking of countries i'd say germany is probably a bit below sweden and on the same level as france, ukraine and poland
but you really got to consider that germany doesnt really have those full time pro gamers, the majority is occupied by either studying or working.

the only player i know of being in a teamhouse and practicing fulltime right now is TLO, not completely sure though, so feel free to correct me

We actually all live by the beliefs of Hitler and hate everyone outside of Germany.

That's the biggest problems I see with the german players too, they're definately good and top players outside of korea, but I fear they might fall behin over time because most of the are busy with other stuff.

GoOdy, I don't want to sound mean, but the last time we hung out you were so much thinner What happened? But I also have to remember this was in 2007, I packed a lot of weight since then as well ~_~, but good to see that you still have the hair! <3 I cut mine Good luck with every tourny though dude, I loved your play in TSL I really don't watch SC anymore or even keep up with it, but still glad to see you around man.

Goody is correct in that both Germany and Sweden are stacked... I do think the U.S and Canada are almost as good or as good as both of those countries though. I expect the Koreans to dominate like they always have.

I also hope that France does well because ToD is awesome

Why is everyone mentioning France?? France has only 1 player (ToD) who can compete in the world scene... and he is not even top notch...
got me? guess not
