At the gamescom fragster interviewed (T)GoOdy about the World Cyber Games, the gamescom and the XMG Series. GoOdy is of the opinion that Germany is one of the strongest nations in Starcraft 2.

Special thanks goes to Solitude for translating the interview!

-> To the interview (Be aware of XMG Series finals spoilers)

Some impressions:

Do you think a tournament like the WCG is better than filling the Slots with invites?

GoOdy: Okay, that's traditional for the WCG, and I think it's the fairest way to do it and prefer it over the possibility to invite someone – there are enough tournaments, where players can only get in through invites, and in the WCG everyone has the chance to prove themselves. In the long run, you'll often see the same names at the top, but sometimes there are upsets.

What do you think about the chances for Germany in the WCG?

GoOdy: I think, Germany is one of the strongest countries internationally – without South Korea – Sweden has many strong players and also Poland and the Ukraine, but at the WCG everything is possible.

In comparison to Socke, you've not been travelling too much lately and accordingly you've not been seen too often. What's the reason for this? Did you take a break?

GoOdy: I would have like to travel to the Assembly LAN, but sadly, that wasn't possible. I'm trying to go to more offline events in the next time.

Which events?

GoOdy: I'm not sure, the DreamHack will be again in winter, so I'll surely be there. Then there will be the Northcon, that's not a big tournament, but that's not a reason to not go there. Beyond that, I'll have to see, for which tournament I can qualify myself, if I can qualify for the WCG, I'm going to Korea. Two weeks from now there's the qualifier for another tournament in Korea, so we'll see.

Read the full interview! (Be aware of XMG series finals spoilers)

Hate to say this but I wish Germany all the best but in a a years time, according to many top players including MaNa, Koreans will be even more dominant then they are now. Expect Korea to wipe the floor at WCG.

Germany was alot stronger in BW then they are in SC2. Socke, TLO, and Goody a pretty good top 3, but its not like in BW where they also had mondi, infernal, koll and 452442 other very good players running around.

TLO isn't top 3 oO. Someone like Hasu/Xlord/Darkforce fits more into top 3 I believe.

I think the following players are the best players of their race in Germany:

Zerg: Darkforce
Protoss: Socke (over Hasuobs in my opinion, due to his strong showings in various tournaments)
Terran: GoOdy

Germany was stronger relatively in BW because the talent outside of Korea was so few and far between. Germany was one of only a few countries that could boast numerous top-tier talents. With the expansion of SC2 Germany may not seem to be as much of a powerhouse, but it would still be right up there in terms of highest skill level outside of Korea. You can find most of the best (non-Korean) players hailing from Europe. And the best countries in EU? GoOdy is right-on: Sweden, Germany, Ukraine, and Poland. I don't know how I'd rank them after Sweden at #1, but regardless they are all top countries in terms of talent and all probably bring more to the table than the US or Canada. Over the next year China will prove to be very strong I'm sure, but for now I wouldn't say its up there yet, just due to a lack reliable data.

Awesome interview. Well, I guess anything featuring the panzer general is more or less automagically awesome.

I'd agree that german players are pretty strong, i really do think that if goody trained in korea for 3-4 months, his skill level would VASTLY improve.

hell, i reckon socke would thrive in korea too, why not send him instead of SaSe

Being one of the strongest doesn't mean shit if the strongest country is so way ahead that you will lose against people that aren't even considered top notch in their country.

Goody going to Korea? He'll really have to refine his style if he wants to succeed there, but best of luck!
also i think you should be able to combine like 5 archons to make a really really shitty oliver stone film - Keanu_Reaver, bw balance genius

Is he refering to the next code A qualifiers?

I'd LOVE to see Goody in code A just to see how Korean's handle his style/see if he can get faster/better macro/ect

Germany has a very solid line-up, no doubt about it.

The only thing they lack is a "superstar" level of player, someone like Idra, Thorzain or Nerchio. A player everyone is afraid of going up against.

calling Nerchio a superstar is quite a stretch. Hasn't won a big tournament yet. I doubt he scares any1 at the WCG.
