EDIT: The team house is now LIVE! We will be setting up the stream in the next few hours, between eating burgers and smoking. Keep checking the thread to keep posted.
NIgs stream is now live @ www.justin.tv/clueless_uk! Check our twitter (twitter.com/nigsc for updates on when we go live)
Fellow TLers,
Some of you may remember the post a few months back regarding the news of Northern Ireland's first major gaming clan "NIgs" being announced; well today I bring you more exciting news:
NIgs will be starting a team house in August 2012. While most of the players are relatively unknown to the TL community, they have been practising hard, and will soon be well known names in the Starcraft 2 world! To mark this occasion, starting at ~8pm GMT on 22/08/11, we will be publicising a mini team house for 5 days. During this time, we will be running KOTHs, streaming, playing lots and lots and lots and lots, while all the time chainsmoking. Not only this, but throughout the week, we will be recording some video material for you fine folks on TL on our daily life as well as interviews, and a night out on the town talking about starcraft. For comedy, fun, tips and rage (mostly rage), join us on the stream (justin.tv/clueless_uk) on the day as well as our twitter (twitter.com/nigsc), facebook (http://www.facebook.com/groups/165140136894580/) and the upcoming material on TL.
During this time however, we seek some help from the community, namely in the way of practice partners.
If you wish to apply to practise with us, leave the following details in the thread (note, KOTH details will run in a separate thread)
BNet Name# Skype (if applicable [and if you can tolerate swearing/serious physical abuse]) Race Points this season and last
Master league only please (this season)!
For some of you, Starcraft in Northern Ireland will mean nothing; for others it will be of paramount importance. This thread is for the latter!
Yours in macro and in micro,
CluEleSs
EDIT: yeah sorry my stupid dates. I'm still living in the past here
AND congratulations to NIgsFlu, who just placed in the top4 for the Switzerland WCG bid, and will hopefully secure his place in another tournament next week as first (I'm led to believe).

NIgs whatiting! wished there would be something similar to this here in switzerland ;( pretty jealous^^
|
Ooh shit clueless I didn't knew you were this serious : D
|
Yeah Latedi, this is serious stuff! I hope we can get more players from Northern Ireland involved in the scene over the coming week!
|
So you announce that you will create the teamhouse in 1 year and that you will start a mini team house 1 year ago?
Aside from that confusing date stuff it sounds like cool stuff!
|
Good luck with this, ask me for customs any time you want ;D Also are the dates in the OP correct? I understand if you have to wait a year to get the house running but you cannot physically go back a year in time to play around.

Glad to see I wasn't the only who completely confused by their dates.

I'd apply but I couldn't live with the shame of playing with a team named 'Nigs'.

Oh dear, what an unfortunate name.
|
As a player from NI, I wish you luck. You'll need it given how non-existent our scene is.. but you might want to change the name haha

Seriously though, GOOD LUCK GUYS!

its an awesome name but in the end its still just a name =) not joining a game because of its name sounds like a stupid reason 2 me but w/e

Starting off by calling your team nigs doesnt bode well for your "professional" future. Shit like that is the reason NI cant field a good team. lol.

Agreed. Pretty embarrassing for the growing Irish starcraft community.

Names can always be changed if Blizzard actually would implement the paid name change that has supposedly been coming since release
We sort of created it, changed tags then realised the possible offence that could be taken at the tags, but as of yet we're unable to change our tags without shelling out 40 euros on a new copy of the game
I suppose people will forever think we're trolling, but there's a reason for the lack of change. Thanks to anybody who is willing to put up with the 'offensiveness' and practice with us though, means a lot

Well basically we're living tomorrow next year and we all happen to be big SC nerds, so we're just looking for similar minded people to take the game seriously. We're all pretty big gamers and have been competitive in a lot of different games so we have the mindset to do that with SC2 as well
Also congrats to our Swiss ace player, Flu who is in the final 4 for Switzerland's WCG qualifier

They probably need to see who will be alive in one year from their chainsmoking adventures...
|
As for the community in Northern Ireland - it's bigger than you thought. At QCon, we had a fairly extensive SC2 tournament, with bigger events planning to run throughout the year. As well as this, around 10 of us went down to dublin for the #starcraft.ie tourney, with 2 NIgs players placing in the top 8. This weekend in London/derry there is a 16 man tournament which 2 of us will be competing in, hoping to grab 1st and 2nd place respectively.

♥ Ireland, ♥ starcraft. Can't wait to see you guys streaming and what not!

Good luck to you guys and all...
But... NIg's is a really inappropriate name.. I realize it stands for Northern Ireland Gamers...
But seriously, you're going to name your team your team after a short-form racial slur?

As we pointed out in a prior thread - we don't really have ethnic people in Northern Ireland, aside from a few chinese families, and some romanians. To us, racism doesn't really exist, so it wasn't apparent to us that it was a racial slur.

I explained pretty close to the OP. We made the acronym, spelt it out and didn't realise it'd be construed as offensive until later. Miscalculation on our part so apologies to those who are offended. This is also inconvenient for us bear in mind, as people are inclined to think we're trolling and not serious about improving the local scene in Ireland.
We managed to badger the people at Ireland's biggest (by participation) convention to let us have an SC2 tournament that was so successful that we get a massive upgrade in facilities next year. We're looking to network with other teams and get all the decent level, or high-aspiring players in Ireland regularly practicing, but the name is holding us back. We KNOW it's an issue so if people would please stop raising it that'd be appreciated
I'm not a complete moron, and have said we will change the name when Blizzard incorporates paid namechanges, I'm not spending money on another account in lieu of functionality that should be in the game currently.

This name is almost as bad as the guy who named his mod "Holocaust".
What's your new name going to be?
That said, good luck with your team house endeavours, the UK could certainly use more gosu Sc2 players.

Bobster isn't better imho =)

Well, I'm glad you guys realize it's an issue, but there is no reason why you can't change your team name right now despite the inability to change your gametag.

best of luck with this clueless. hope u and the other N.I members will still come to the lan events i organise in dublin!

Yeah and we'll get round to it, but in the meantime until we pick on a new name we may as well try to network and get some practice partners and whatnot in place until a new, decent name is chosen
@Royalmarine, yeah that's the plan, some of us have been to a few Dublin LANs and placed pretty well, not sure if they were yours though. Sadly I work weekends and they're refusing to give me time off atm so my travelling is somewhat curtailed. That and I'm a relative scrub so it wouldn't be worth my bus/train ticket

Yeah they've been his, sadly royalmarine couldn't make the last one though I'm convinced the 2 guys who took control skimmed some money off the top too...
