you know they are very poor.I think it is understandable. NASL has already posted how much they paid for the Koreans in season 1 of the NASL.
And it's not $3,000+.

The best thing NASL had going for itself was the player pool, now that has been destroyed in one swoop. Sad times.

Does this mean all Korean teams such as IM and SlayerS? Sucks that they said no because honestly now that some of the best competition isn't there my inclination to watch is even lower than it was last season.
Oh well, fingers crossed for this season I guess. Already starting on a bad foot though imo.

This is surprising but to be honest I'm perfectly okay with it. This means we'll see more foreigner participation and it may not just be a Korean slaughterfest. I don't know about you guys but Korean slaughterfests are getting kind of old to me. I always find myself rooting for the foreigners, and will certainly be doing so in NASL season 2. Count me as a paying subscriber and a fan.

If you say all expenses paid, then what if the Koreans all decided to book first class flights, take a limo from the airport to the presidential suite at the hotel they were staying at, maybe eat 5-star restaurant every night.

Because then you open yourself up to abuse. Fixed amount is better, that way no one gets more or less than anyone else.
Anyways, give me your credit card, I want to go buy, a new Televi-... Big Mac. Dw its for ESPORTS.

Even Bumblebee (TeamLiquid) CONFIRMED that 2000$ is pretty much enough. So OBVIOUSLY you're wrong >_> CAPS...

Wow, this is really sad news. I sounds like NASL tried their hardest to give us the top quality korean players, but I guess these travel fees are hard to work out while delivering an outstanding tournament. Still <3 NASL though

Obviously NASL doesnt want to lose the Koreans so they would have figured out the cost for reasonable travel to and from Korea and then offered them something around there. It's not that hard to enforce policies you know... like "this hotel" only and etc.

Slayers actually isn't associated with it, but Boxer isn't coming anyways

plane ticket is about 1k, the extra 1k can cover hotel and food for a weekend. probably have money left over. i'm guessing they wanted tickets for extra people like manager or coaches, maybe its hard traveling alone. but still, practically free trip with the chance of winning 40k, i don't know what they're thinking.

this pretty much looks like the team managers tried to squeeze out free money from NASL. I am happy that they didnt bend even more for the koreans.
|
This isn't about money. That has been made clear over and over by people in this thread.
This is about one of a few things:
1) Koreans trying to squeeze out NASL so that GSL remains number 1 2) They're pissed off at the EG/PuMa thing and they don't want that to repeat 3) They're pissed off at the hours of play and don't want to go through it again 4) They hate the tournament format for the finals and think its a waste of time
There may be other reasons, but those are the ones I can think of.
What I don't understand is why they went through the trouble of giving NASL an ultimatum. They clearly had no intention of competing to begin with. NASL has basically agreed to cover all travel costs...

as much as it doesn't sound fair, maybe NASL should think about paying up more for every player who's going to be in final.
I can see how it's going to hurt NASL if they dont but I dont see how it's going to hurt NASL much if they do.

I look forward to more and more awesome Korean players working out contracts with established teams that can afford to give them the basic travel support that befits players of that caliber. Until then I'll have to be content with watching them in the GSL, or in the few rare events where they get a full paid invite.
NASL no more needs to pay for Korean players to participate than GSL needs to pay for any westerners who want to take a crack at code A.

For the same reason my employer doesn't include "all expenses" when I do work travel. I get a stipend that is more than sufficient to meet all my needs and also protects them from people who are going to try to abuse a blank check.

Korean teams pulling out after the season begins?
No words exist for this low, low blow.
You can say whatever you want about NASL's format. You may disagree with it, you may hate it, and you may want to see it burn in hell. But the fact is - The Korean teams knew that it would be applied. Now, while the season has started, the Korean teams demand more than was agreed on when they entered the qualifiers.
This is a breach of agreement and is everything opposite to the so called 'honourable' Korean culture everyone talks about at all times. Poor performance by the Korean teams, and I hope for them to redeem themselves with regards to this issue, but it'd be hard for them.
|
I do not exactly know how high the security deposit is, but for financially troubled korean teams it could be an issue with their liquidity if they were to withdraw security deposits for so many players. For me that would be the only reason that would make sense if the travel expenses were below 2k $. You know it's only fine to deposit money for a while if you do not need it right now.
All in all it is sad that we won't get to see a lot of the koreans.
